Last night in London Jeremy, Richard and James officially revealed our Cars of the Year. You already know the shortlist – we let that out of the bag a few weeks ago – but the boys finally picked an overall winner in time for our awards bash, described by one onlooker as ’surprisingly noisy’.
The biggish gong went to Volkswagen for the new Scirocco – a car Jeremy seemed to like mainly because it was “less practical than a Golf”, which was meant as a compliment, we think.
The awards ceremony passed off with almost no fighting, perhaps thanks to the presence of Stephan “Literally the Coolest Man in the World Ever” Winkelmann, the CEO of Lamborghini and Top Gear’s Man of the Year. He really is ridiculously cool.
Other noteworthy guests included Tara Palmer-Tomkinson, Charley Boorman and Dragon’s Den stars James Caan and Theo Paphitis.

I wouldn’t like to have been in the position of choosing the winners this year as I think it’s been an absolutely stunning one for design and innovation.. surprising really, as our wonderful leaders are trying to convince us that anything with four wheels (that they’re not currently being driven in) is bad, but we should still all buy cars, tax them, fill them up and then walk instead.
It’s a shame there weren’t any fringe homegrown models – the wilder the better – in a position to take an award but then that’s more a sign of the times here than a statement about our ability to build astonishing cars. Living just down the road from Ultima and Noble leaves me in no doubt of that!
Still the big surprise has to be two serious contenders from the other side of the pond. Who’d have predicted that just a year ago?
A worthy winner but maybe another car for the competition should had been the Punto Abarth?

As of my information from friends-the videos are not avaible from USA, Germany, Bulgaria. There are a lot more for sure. I jsut wonder what’s the point because we all love TG why we are not allowed to see the outtakes, xtra stuff etc. ot the site. I really guess that’s not with purpose and it’s for a short period of time, I hope so.

Very glad to see the C3 Picasso got the family car award. I saw it at the Paris Motorshow and in Citroen’s new showroom on the Champs Elysees, and it’s an absolutely brilliant little/big car. Surely has to be a top seller! And it’s extremely cool.
Also pleased with Abarth 500 and Toyota iQ. Scirocco looks great in that green, too.
Congratulations to the Scirocco. It truly is an epic car. Oh and Im with that whole un-blocking the You Tube video thing.

Ferrari California was a good winner and i loved the car that the stig was in that has no roof. Where was the Mitsubishi Lancer EvoX??? That was a cool car. Car of the year for that!!! Not a Volkswagen Scirooooooo.

I just looked through the car list and I like the look of the Ferarri California, the Corvette, the Lamborghini, and absolutely love the Dodge Challenger. All gorgeous cars. I love the Stig tropheys too.

I want to say well done Lambo, who have quietly got on with making the most two-fingers-to-the-world cars they can, and they’ve been consistently good for a while now. Ferraris don’t look half as gorgeous, and lambos seem to be more bothered about blowing us away, while Ferrari just seem to want to make you go a little bit faster per car.
The BBC is funded by an annual license fee (about $200 equivalent) payable by every television owner in the UK and has no advertising support. They can, therefore, decide to keep their programmes within the UK if they wish.. especially as UK license holders might not appreciate subsidising programmes for people who havent had to pay.

To all the foreigners, I live in america and have watched every single episode of top gear. there are blogs online that upload the latest episodes in good quality. Google search Streetfire, and the current series with episode to find them! Love the show, absolutely amazing, I am a college student and don’t get the BBC so this is how I get my dose of top gear, I would fail out of college without it!!

Is there any logical purpose in blocking access to the videos for the people fortunate enough to reside outside the UK? I mean any purpose apart from alienating us to the point where we will see no purpose in continuing to receive TG’s emails each week when we have been blocked from seeing the content!!

I think that Ferrari California is the ugliest car ever made by Ferrari -except for the Mondial- therefore it should not have been included on any category(except for ugliest car).It looks like a koreean car.Ferrari can make a beautiful car,or at least they could-look at the 250gt Lusso from ‘64 or the 360Modena.
By giving awards to ugly cars, you encourage their making.So don’t!

Top Gear sould go and see if they can do well in the Targa Tasmania. see if they can win it, it has some of the best roads in the world and it is a place Top gear has not been to yet. murray walker has been in it and totally enjoyed it

What a varied load of comments! I really enjoy Top Gear and even re-runs on Dave. I look forward to reading my email and talk to friends on its content. The complaints baffle me “why watch or read something you don’t enjoy” keep it going I love it.

I can’t really argue much with the line up except for the Ferrari California. I don’t disagree, I wonder how the boys chose a car that has been lambasted on this site ever since it was unveiled?
