um… lots of topgear’s dedicated fans have known who the stig is for quite a while, obviously its never been confirmed so we weren’t 100% sure. But when the newspapers went and revealed it yesturday it was a real shame because isn’t a clause in his contract saying if he is revealed hemust quit? If that is true and he does have to quit it will be a real shame as now he has a personality the show wont be the same. We all know that his genitals arn’t on upside down and that he doesn’t suck the moisture from ducks, but it is nice to pretend and revealing him is like saying father christmas is not real – gutting. I hope this article tryingto make light of the situation means you arn’t trying to change the stig as would ruin the programme. Why to 2% of people have to f*** itup for everyone else?

What is the point in trying to find out who the stig is! The whole point is that its supposed to be a mystery and finding out who he is just ruins the fun of it all! If you have AOL, check the news section: while in public requiring a product Ben accidentally revealed his identity allowing viewers to know he is The Stig. I’m not sure specifically which websites you can read the whole story on, but take a look around. Sorry to disappoint fans and children who want to keep The Stig anonymous, but he is not Graham Hill, he is in fact Ascari test driver Ben Collins.

Joking aside, as some people have mentioned, the Stig has been known to Top Gear fans a while ago and the papers did not need to do a massively spun expose to reveal his true identity – the Law requires even the BBC to be honest about it and the legal files are in the public domain and have been for a very long time.
It is all a question of where to look and how to look for it.

The next stig has already been selected. He’s actually a performer on another popular TV show, and already has his own suit and helmut (Note: it’s purple).

For years the guys at Top Gear have been very diligent about keeping the identity of their prized car tester under wraps. It seems, though, that the mysterious man in white has let his identity slip in a simple art gallery faux pax.

According to The Telegraph, The Stig outed himself when he asked a Bristol gallery to create a limited-edition print of him in action. Collins has previously raced in Formula Three, Le Mans GT and Nascar.

Gallery owner Simon Whitehead says he was quite taken aback when he discovered The Stig’s identity.

“I was absolutely amazed when he said he was The Stig, it was quite a big thing in a weird way,” Whitehead said.

Builder Jason Goody says he discovered The Stig’s identity when he did some work at Collins’ home and found the famous white suit and gloves on display in a cabinet, reports the The Telegraph.

Collins has denied being The Stig and could be axed should he ever admit it.

The first Stig, stunt driver Perry McCarthy, lost the job after outing himself in his book.

He was known as The Black Stig and always wore a black suit and helmet before he was “killed off” during the third series of Top Gear. Collins has since become The White Stig, and wears an all-white helmet and suit.

The identity of The Stig has not been officially revealed and is a carefully guarded secret by the BBC.

A Top Gear spokesperson said, “We never comment on speculation as to who or what The Stig is.”

Re The Sig In actual fact I will now unmask,the true identity,… of the Stig, he is no other than Captian Slow’s (James May) identical twin brother. This brother after his birth( he was the first born and the most handsome) was sent to a secret location, and fed on a diet of high grade engine oil and old car mags. His training, was intense, undergoing being bolted to V8 engine, driven
to the Artic. Also fed soft compound F1 tyres.
After all this endurance he was employed by Top Gear, and the, rest, is history.

Doesn’t the ‘Stig’ change depending which cars are to go around the track? I’ve heard that some manufacturers aren’t too happy about handing the keys of a hypercar over to an ex-racer. I’ve read that Zonda only let their own test drivers take the cars around the track.
