This week The Mole is learning about industrial strength glue… It seems in preparation for Top Gear Live arriving in Auckland, the locals have torn up all the carpet that has sat comfortably for 20 years on the floor of the ABS Showground, to helpfully make way for our sliding supercars.
What The Mole thinks they didn’t expect was a veritable sea of old sticky glue to remain in its wake, which has proceeded to tear our cars apart over the past few days. The rear garage area was like a scene from Saving Private Ryan, as the procession of limping cars, each with various fluids gushing out of the bottom, seemed impossible to staunch. Space was made for each wounded vehicle, spanners and jacks swept aside hurriedly to make way for another steaming wreck.
When no cars were left on the battlefield, and the final driveshaft crack had echoed silent in the theatre, an emergency meeting was called; the glue had to go. The soft compound tyres we use had even agitated the problem, smearing the glue across the entire arena floor, and making the ground so sticky it was pulling crew members shoes off!
There was no alternative than to arm as many as possible with scraping razors and begin the tortuous task of removing all of the adhesive by hand. Once off, and with the first of the bandaged up cars staggering out of the garage, rehearsals were back on, and with fury. Supercars tore past The Mole belching huge blue flames from quad exhausts, tiny Suzuki Swifts performed impressive 360 degree rotations and our ninja girl started kicking the arse of a dragon tattooed Holden HSV – we were back in business!

What do you think?

I love the way each show sounds a little different with various cars for car football and then local favourites like the Holden. I’d love to see a round up of all the different action from the countries in a little video clip if TG would like to put that on some time…

Quad exhaust flames from the “Ferraris”? A quad exhaust system on a 4 cylinder Toyota engine must have been expensive!
