I have to say I’m deeply concerned by what I read in the Telegraph yesterday. Andy Wilman has said there was a road trip planned for the new series involving a Porsche and a Lamborghini. The key word in that sentence is ‘was’. Apparently those cars have been replaced by a Toyota IQ and some other piece of cheap Japanese tat to show an awareness of the recession.

I’m sorry, but 99.9% of your audience don’t watch TG because they’re thinking of buying a Lambo, they watch it because they love watching supercars go sideways while Jeremy makes hilarious comparisons. If I want a straight-faced car review I’ll watch the bunkum on Channel 5, thanks.

Jeremy said in the May 2007 edition of TG magazine that he wanted to do a power test between two fast estates, but that most of TG’s audience would rather he drop them out of a plane to see which would hit the ground first. Series 9, 10 and 11 really struck a perfect balance. However, the last series focused on the dropping out of a plane part, which hindered my enjoyment greatly. I hope TG stays true to itself in the next series because it’s what I look forward to all week. Sorry to be a sceptic but…I’ve got my doubts.

It’s too late for June. Each series usually lasts 2-2,5 months on telly, then they get filming for almost 4 months and get back to air. So, they have two periods on tv (4 months) and another two periods (almost 8 months) filming.

I cannot understand why this time, they keep waiting so long.

I was entering the site daily, hoping that the official air date will be until the middle of May. Latest June, almost July???

Awww so you think me and Richard were made for each other…i wish!!! i loved him as soon as he started Top Gear in 2002 (i’ve been watchin T G a lot longer than that though),then i started watching absolutely everything he does!! i’m a year and a half younger than him,i’ll be 38 in June. Really looking forward to the new series i still enjoy the repeats but can’t wait for something fresh and funny!

How disappointing, they said it would be back in the spring and June is summer. Boo!

Series 11 went from 22nd June 2008 – 27th July 2008 & ran for 6 episodes so this sounds normal.

Series 12 went from 2nd November to 28th December with 8 episodes & god knows how many repeats BBC2 are still pushing out on Sunday nights.

Dave is going to have a dedicated viewer till then, but i can’t wait!

Yes, but in 2008, there was the Football World Cup in Germany and the whole winter season was also delayed because of Hammond’s accident, so that’s why the show began then.

Perhaps they just decided to stick with this routine since his accident, filling what was Hammond’s recovery period with the TG Live Tour.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a fan of having to endure 6 months of repeats for 6 new episodes but Top Gear has become so commercial I think they’re filming schedule is dictated by third party commitments.

Adrenaline-junkie Dulcibella King-Hall wanted to celebrate her birthday in style, and in true petrolhead fashion, headed straight for Brands Hatch and the sensational new BMW M3 coupe.

But Miss King-Hall – who has always had a love of cars since the Second World War – turned 107 last Saturday, making her the oldest person to complete a lap at Brands.

And despite her advanced years, Miss King-Hall was well up for it, saying “why shouldn’t I? Don’t you like it? I have a driving licence. I can drive any vehicle.

“I like the feeling of the vehicle going vroom.”

After hitting a 108mph top speed going into Paddock Bend, she gamely joked that her four laps of the famous 1.6-mile course “could have been faster”.

I wish they would just review cars again instead of all these Pointless stunts and tasks. It’s too dramatic with all three presenters deliberately acting and not so well because i can see it is rehearsed like many other car enthusiasts. Return to being a good car reviewing show like it was upto a few years ago or stop wasting TV time and let Fifth gear or any other car show take over.

I bought a blank keyring for 99p from Hobbycraft then put 2 pictures of the lovely Richard in it! So i have him with me at work as well ha ha. Really good luck with that presentation on thursday good idea to do something from Top Gear,when you’re talking just think of Richard and how he does it so brilliantly and you’ll be fine,just wave your arms about a bit and sound really enthusiastic! Hey i saw a porsche just like Richards parked near my shop it was dead nice… i looked in as i drove past and the guy did actually look a bit like him!!! But it wasnt damn thats a shame, anyway yes i’d love to drive a really fast car i am a bit mad like that (but never been done for speeding on the road )i want to drive the reasonably priced car round the Top Gear test track that would be fun. The repeat on BBC2 was one of the recent ones tonight i loved it (the lorry driving one) and Oliver was in it ha ha!

Top Gear is the best thing ever to make you feel better isn’t it! hope you’re ok now, yesi really like porsches too not that i think i’ll ever be lucky enough to own one but maybe i’ll drive one sometime. I drive a 6 year old citroen i get a lot of stick for it because i really like fast cars and mine…well,isn’t that fast!!! but i love it its a blue/silver colour. i once had a very sporty top of the range toyota it was well fast!
that Top Gear with the Germans is well funny i like the double decker racing bit they did!

I know TG it’s for real new car you can buy, but because the new serie doesn’t start before june … I think maybe TG can make a special event just for 1 show maybe for tunning car vs Real super car, that can be funny to show the difference between them and why bought real super car rather than tunning car vice & versa…

I was recently involved in the interesting debate with Russian lads.
The subject of discussion was this:
If the car stands on the horizontal surface and the direct gear is engaged, what will require more force, to push it forward or to push it back?
Lots of arguments were fired out, including gear box mechanics, friction of the clutch, even compression of the fuel mix in the cylinders.
One suggestion was to set the car on the top of the hill, engage direct gear and push it downhill. Monitor the time of the descent. Repeat the experiment with the car in direct gear but this time facing its rear downhill. Would you be interested to perform this experiment in your programme, preferably in Moscow?

To everybody at Top Gear.Thank god a new series wil be starting soon.I love Top Gear so much i had to ask myself.How hard can it be to drive a Ferrari F360 round Silverstone.So i paid my money and went there last Sunday to find out.And well it was fantastic!My decision to do this was influened by you guys at Top Gear.I have a question.Has the Top Gear team ever thought about doing a John o Groats to Lands End challenge?

I have two comments to make with respect to the last series. Firstly, why do you only demonstrate on vehicles at the “posh end”? I mean, even the leyland marina you mashed was the luxury version. I don’t see any bog standard, beige, marina, being trashed. We don’t all own top of the range marinas or whatever. My second point is Mr May and the Yamaha FS1E. The issue is his attempt to break the 50mph speed barrier. The only time I reached 50mph on my Yamaha FS1E was with my feet on the back pegs, lying on the tank, wearing my mate’s streamlined gauntlets, and going down the Boughton by-pass hill towards Faversham, Kent. A very rare and challenging event it was too. Looking forward to the new series and in this time of austerity I would like to see vehicles aimed at the ordinary man in the street. I don’t mean literally aimed at as that would lead to injury but I’m sure you know what I mean. That’s all for now, I’m off to re-arrange my sock drawer. TTFN

when the budget runs out, create a challenge where the presenters have to make something from the old cars used in previous challenges (they are all apparently rotting in a corner of the TG compound).

This is a travesty. Top Gear tour must be abolished with immediate effect and the crew put on a 60 hour week to stop this 6 month wait nonsense from ever happening again. I demand minimum 26 episodes a year until the day I die.

I was recently reading Top Gear mag and JC was talking about going to Norfolk.And he went via Northampton.Which is by far the worst town in Britain for road signs.I myself came back that way from Silverstone.Perhaps the Top Gear boys could do a film on that particular subject.Or even a challenge.The only signs you see is ring road,Mk.Harbourgh and Leceister.What are county councils thinking of.Perhaps they all expect everybody to have satnavs.

I don’t suppose BBC America would be running it at the same time? No. Because BBC America is shit.

I fail to understand how with the sheer depth and breadth of actually good programming at the BBC they insist on showing What Not To Wear, or Antiques in the Attic (whatever the hell it’s called, we have our own version… which airs on PBS, which should tell you something! Goddammit) or the same three Doctor Who episodes on repeat. It is just beyond me.

Okay BBC America rant over. But I badly want new Top Gear. Really. And it probably won’t be legally available for another… oh, decade. Grr

I have two comments to make with respect to the last series. Firstly, why do you only demonstrate on vehicles at the “posh end”? I mean, even the leyland marina you mashed was the luxury version. I don’t see any bog standard, beige, marina, being trashed. We don’t all own top of the range marinas or whatever. My second point is Mr May and the Yamaha FS1E. The issue is his attempt to break the 50mph speed barrier. The only time I reached 50mph on my Yamaha FS1E was with my feet on the back pegs, lying on the tank, wearing my mate’s streamlined gauntlets, and going down the Boughton by-pass hill towards Faversham, Kent. A very rare and challenging event it was too. Looking forward to the new series and in this time of austerity I would like to see vehicles aimed at the ordinary man in the street. I don’t mean literally aimed at as that would lead to injury but I’m sure you know what I mean. That’s all for now, I’m off to re-arrange my sock drawer. TTFN

TG please disregard come of the comments above about reviewing “affordable” cars. Please don’t do that! I want to see plenty of horrendously expensive cars. If there are any cheap cars, may they be part of cheap car challenges and fall apart in the end.
