A lottery isn’t first come first served. First come first served means that someone joining the list today won’t get them till everyone before gets theirs.

Let me get this off my chest before I explode.

After reading this and a few other posts like it on Final Gear, (that site is what lead me here), I still find it incredibly difficult to understand how some many folks have been in the audiance several times.

If the way that tickets are issued is fair, then how come some folks have been several time, yet others have to wait years.

Granted, I appreciate that there is limited space in the studio, however, I do think that a better system of offering these very special tickets would be more in line with keeping things fair.

Is it a case of not what you know, but who you know?

Prove me wrong if you will please.

I’ve been on the list for a few years now but that’s ok….I’m a patient lady, I can wait ‘cos I know it will be worth it when I get there.

The only thing that does worry me is that by the time my name pings to the top of the list the only thing Jeremey, Richard and James will be racing around the track will be their zimmer frames!!

Also really upset because that means i may have been in with a chance of getting in sometime soon but i still have to wait another 4 years until they let me in the studios

P.S i also agree with some other comments that no-one should be allowed in twice if some havent been in at all ..

Despite my birthday is in 3 months, 3 weeks and 1 day :’(

I’d like to go, but having to stand up all day doesn’t appeal to me.

I know several people who have been up to 8 times each and seem to get to go every series. They must be the luckiest people ever if it is a true lottery system – it’s more likely that they’re friends with the people at applause store.

The only fair way is to have a true waiting list of course.

But the good thing is that the guys know who these people are and don’t like it one bit…

To the people who wonder how some people get to go more than once:
I don’t know whether it’s still the case but it was case a couple of years back that the other businesses at the site that are not connected to TG were given tickets for their staff, presumably as a sort of compensation for the TG disruption. Therefore some of the staff got to go a number of times.
A friend of a friend worked there and went a few times.
Don’t know whether they still do it, our contact commented a while ago that they’d scaled back on the ticket allocations in the last series.

I’ve been on the list pretty much since the new format of the show began and still no luck.

I think the only way you’re really likely to get tickets is if you happen to know someone that works for the show or magazine, as there’ll almost certainly be a large number of tickets reserved for family, friends, clients and the like.

A mate of mine, for instance, managed to get on the show a few years ago (he was actually ribbed by Clarkson on TV for looking like a car thief), because he knew one of the magazine writers through an owner’s club related to a car that they had as one of their Lifers at the time.

Otherwise, I think you’re literally more likely to win the lottery than get tickets through the conventional route.

I was on the waiting list for about 3 years and our metaphorical ship came in last July.
We had the most amazing day; Jeremy, James and Richard were really great with anyone who wanted a picture, the banter was hilarious and the only downside was explaining to the 7-yr old why he wasn’t able to come with us. He stopped sulking just after Christmas…

Think of us in South Africa, we only see it on TV and to see in in real must be an all time high

Instead of TG trying to get more people to want Tickets…. How about I get some having waiting 3 years already!

My 15 yr old lad went on the show after 2 weeks waiting and on top of that had a ride off the stig himself!

I have been on this “register” since day one and I’m still waiting for my chance to watch TG live. TBH a first come first serve basis would make more sense so people like me would have been on the show by now and all those who have jumped on the Top Gear bandwagon have to wait as the show becomes more popular.

I’ve been on the waiting list for umm.. 5 years at least. I think part of it is that I live across the pond and hence probably excluded from the lottery. I think initially it used to be first come first serve (I remember applause store back then told me the waiting list was around 5,000). I still hope that I get that call. The moment I do, I am calling British Airways to catch my flight out of here.

I have been on, what was advertised at the time, a 2 year waiting list…….for nearly 3.5 years. Figure that one out! And I did re-apply incase my name had mysteriously disappeared from the waiting list, and it said that the only list that was operating now is the ‘reserve list’ !!!!!

I dont think people that have been once already should be allowed to go again, but to be foar, there would be no way of knowing if they’d been or not as there are loads of ways to get around the issue!!

I would love to go but just like all the other great shows on Applause Store they are all reserve lists which are miles long and by the time it comes to you the show has ended :S

I’ve been twice its a long day standing and bloody cold in the winter.
The first show was when Billy Piper was the start in the reasonably priced car but she couldn’t make the filming of the show so they had pre-recorded her interview.
The second show was when Lawrence Dallagio was the star, recorded live in front of the audience.
All in its a great afternoon with lots of interaction with the audience.
Have to be honest though its an adult day out, the innuendo and language aint for the faint of heart and neither should it be!
Keep up the good work lads your doing the best job on telly and you know it……

By the time all the friend of a friend tickets are allocated I suspect only 2 people a show have actually aplied via Applause Store!!!!

Having a petrol head husband, (and son), I thought the best prezzie eva for his 40th birthday would be TG tickets, I applied about a year before his birthday (2006), have now decided they will be the best 50th birthday prezzie eva, not alone on this wait for years list then! Never mind good things are worth waiting for!

I’ve been lucky enough to be selected for tickets 3 times now but i’ve only attended twice as i was i’ll on one occasion and passed the tickets onto my brother.
It is a really long day and you are stood up all day but it’s a great experience.

As for the ticket selection method obviously i’m not going to complain as i’ve been really lucky but i can understand some of your frustration if you’ve been waiting for ever.

I know of various people through online fan groups such as Hammond Heaven who have been many times each. At least one has become ‘friends’ with JC & Co. and goes to many recordings.

I don’t think this is really fair, I’ve been on list over 4 years and not a whiff of a visit, think how galling it is knowing that they go to virtually every one!

Having now read these comments, I’m now wondering if perhaps Audiance Store is not the right way to go for this.

I know the majority of other BBC audiance tickets are issued direct from the BBC, should this not be the case with Top Gear?

I have been on the waiting list for 31/2 years now. I do manage to get to MPH every year, which is terrific. Last year, after being on the list for 21/2 years, I phoned Applause store to ask them why I hadn’t received a call yet, or where I was on the list, etc. and pointed out that some people have attended the filmings and had been on the list for a much shorter time than myself. I was told by the lady at Applause store that they do not put people on the waiting list who are from overseas. She told me that if you have an overseas phone number, the “system automatically kicks it out” and I will never get a call. They reason that because I live overseas, I “just can’t jump on a plane and be there for the filming.” I thought that was a bit presumptuous of her to think that.
I have given up any kind of hope of ever seeing a TG filming. At least I do manage to come over for MPH so I’ll have to satisfy my TG yearnings with that.

Many contributors to this thread, using messaging speak, and not taking much effort to construct a proper post, should automatically be removed from the wait list in my opinion. This would thereby lessen the wait list for others up by at least 50%.

Been to all the MPH’s and had an amazing time, but would love to go & watch a “proper” TG day ….not to mention meet the chaps!! ) Try to stay hopeful, but get pangs of envy/rage that some people have been more than once!?! I put my name down during series 1. About a year later I logged into my Applause Store account and changed my contact details. Some time after that, I found that I’d been offered tickets via my old email address, and that I’d therefore missed out. When I contacted them to find out why they’d done this and whether I was still on the list, I received no reply. I do, however, still receive a regular barrage of emails – at the correct address – inviting me to watch crap ITV ‘family game shows’. F*** you, Applause Store.

Applause is rubbish. I asked they only send emails regarding ONLY Top Gear and QI and they keep sending me stuff about god-awful talent shows. In the time I’ve been on the waiting list (4 years +) threeof my friends have been to the show and one of them has been twice!

Just adds to the lack of transparency in ticket allocations. I bet the applause store staff just sort their mates out with tickets. Have a mete whose been and he says its who you know at the end of the day.

Applause should be not be use by any BBC show they have been known to give out more tickets then places which should be illage.
Even though the tickets are free people still have to book a day off work and pay traveling costs and to get there only to have the gates locked on you is not good way to treat your fans.

When I went to filming last year about 200 people didn’t get in once the gates were locked! Lucky there wasn’t a riot! The BBC allocate more tickets than the studio can hold to allow for ‘no shows’.

I know of people that have been LOADS of times simply because they *know* people which isnt fair for those of us that have been waiting SOOO long! Something should be done by the BBC to stop this happening! It’s not as though they are out to make money from it the tickets are FREE!

After waiting on the list since the dawn of time, I finally got that magical call to go in February 2007. Series 9 programme 4, the Robin Reliant Shuttle one. After getting the call I was so shocked my legs nearly collapsed under me and my whole body started shaking violently! I silenced Jeremy for a bit by giving him some bird food (remember his confession to Jamie Oliver?) and he spent the rest of the recording break showing off my present to the other audience members!!

Getting the call is an utterly wonderful, joyous moment and I hope those that have been waiting the longest get their call soon, enjoy the experience as much as I did and come out smiling! My friend and I came out drunk on our own adrenaline and couldn’t stop giggling!

I was on the waiting list for about 5 years – eventually got a call July 08 and we went – fantastic day . Good things happen to those that wait!

Now this has made me realy angry GRRR I have been on this dam waiting list for three and a half years now and not even had a sniff of a ticket so to all those who subscribe to the rule fairness then forget it.

if i apply for the tickets now, then by the time i actually get the tickets, i will be old enough to go!!
Also i think putting a price on the tickets would make the waiting list considerably smaller. :p just a thought…

Hello out there! I watched Top Gear in spain once it was s**t. They seem to copy what british top gear does. You’ve got Fifth Gear for example they came on the screen just after Top Gear did and they try amd do the same challenges as Top Gear does. I’d like to see Top Gear take on Fifth Gear.

Unfortunately, if you are Portuguese, you can’t be on the studio’s audience of Top Gear. It’s simply not allowed in the registration form of the Applause Store website. Ahah

I have been on the waiting list for nearly 4 years now, and register every series for tickets but as yet have heard nowt. Tis true in the past if you got 20 mates to all register for tickets many times and then one of you was lucky, you had more chance of going more than once. Unfortunately they got wind of it and have banned some folks. App store at Bluewater used to hand out tickets to folks even if others had rung and been told there were none left. Over booking is not good, some travel hundreds of miles just to be told “sorry – can’t let you in!” by some beardy bloke. Not fair, not fair at all.

I think if you have a large pair of melons and white teeth and send a scantily clad photo of yourself drapped over an Alfa to the tg boys @ the bbc you will probably get tickets as they use women to hide the apes in the crowd.

Why do I live so far away from TG? For starters Applause Store is a law to themselves, do not believe anything they tell you on the ‘phone, different people say different things, then there’s that egit Micheal, you know the one that went out with that one a be famous person afew months ago??
The situation is there is a list you can go on either through Bluewater Centre where Applause Store have an outlet or through the web site, thats the only 2 ways. It is run in a way only known to Applause Store, even the great Stig could not fathom, For those living north of Watford good luck, as you sometimes get 2 days notice or less.Oh and yes, the gender ratio comes in too.What is all that about??? Come on BBC give your TG fans a better deal, get the ticketing out of Applause Store hands, you know it makes sence.

I think you’d have a better chance bursting into Jeremy Clarkson’s house and beating him over the head with a dead rabbit until he’s forced to let you on the show than to wait two, three, maybe four years to get in the conventional way.

The good news is that the new series is on the way, so if i don’t get to go, Sunday’s are gonna get a lot less boring.

I think it should be done on geography ‘cos I live about 8 miles from Dunsfold!! In fact I went to look at a house that was literally the other side of the main road from the track – wish I’d got it!!!

My wife and I lived in Mexico for a couple of years and used to have a friend record the series then post it out to us. It is essential Sunday night routine (along with some quality red wine, cheese, crackers, pork pie etc!)It is the only programme that we avidly watch together so would absolutely love it (to paraphrase Kevein Keegan) if would come and see the show being filmed.Please!!!!!!!!!!!

What about these car manufacturers? You make a product, certainly charge TOO MUCH for it, the Mark 4 was the bees knees until the Mark 5 comes out, then a small hiccup in the USA (again a load of crap) AND they all go bleating to the government pleading for a handout!!! ANSWER: If you make something charge a reasonable price for it, Make enough to cover you costs/research/improvemen ts/recycling etc and we will all be happy. ( the shareholders will only bleat, SOD OFF, you took the gamble and lost, you should be able to afford the loss, you don’t complain when you win , DO YOU?

Im sorry to inform you guys, but I think the ticket distributors are having a laugh at our expense. I was on the list for 4 years along with 20 of my work mates, none of us ever got a look in, so last year found some for sale on that auction site and I got a rapor up with the guy selling them, turns out he could get them for every show and often hands them out to his friends because hes been so many times he cant be bothered anymore, anyway, I took the plunge and bought a pair, (illeagal iknow, but this was a once in a lifetime opportunity!), and when I arrived in the studio car park awaiting further instruction, I started talking to other audience members, and guess what?, most lived within 25 miles of the studio, (we were the only northerners there and no-one could believe that anyone would travel 5 hours to get there and pay for a ticket), and more importantly, all were on there 4th or 5th visit.
Top Gear is a fantastic show, and it really is amazing to see it put together just like you see it on sunday night!, But the distributors SEEM only to favour locals to fill the spaces and leave out the rest of us outside the M25.
Sorry Top Gear, but that truly is my opinion.

I Live in western canada, and i was emailed 4 tickets to a july 2009 filming just last week ! I was on the reserve list with the applause store for 1 year! I have no idea how, but from what i am hearing from the rest of you, this is very uncommon for a guy from Canada. Does anyone have a suggestion on how early to arrive at Dunsfold Park for the day of filming? it would suck big time if i flew 9 hrs, and rented a car just to be turned away at the gates. Another thing, anyone know how strict they are about the 50/50 male/female split to gain entrance? my brother and i will be going, but we may need 2 Females with us to gain entrance to the show.

It’s frustrating i know as i too have been waiting for years, but there is another way, Top Gear Live, OK its not the recording of the show, but i went last year and it is a good show, a bit of a laugh and you also get to see the boys live aswell as gettinginto the motor show aswell.

But I have a great view from the Garage and I get a lot of snacks ( I hope you like Green ‘Stuff’ ) and plenty of intoxicating liquids: there is Unleaded, Biofuel, and plain old regular diesel. Last April i applied for top gear tickets for two dates (so i would get two chances for tickets if i didnt come up in the first date i picked) on the applause store, one month later i recieved a email saying i got tickets to go, i got 4 tickets, i live in Ireland so they do not only give tickets to people locally. i’m going on july 22nd and im so so so so looking forward to it

I’ve been on the list for about 3 years now and not got the call, but that’s OK, because a friend of mine did, and I actually got to Dunsfold on 24th June! It was an awesome experience, but I’m not here to gloat, but to maybe offer some hope to the overseas fans: my friend is Italian, and lives in Italy and doesn’t know anyone at AS or working on the show. So it can happen. Thanks to everyone for a brilliant day, and I hope lots of you here get ‘the call’ before too long.

I have heard that they over subscribe the amount of tickets they issue, hoping that people don’t turn up. Can anyone confirm this? I don’t want to travel 8 1/2 hour round trip and then get turned away when we get there. Another site said that lots of people were turned away as they had filled the required capacity.

I have been on list for over 5 years and have re-applied in case my name was dropped. Hopefully one day soon before I am too old to enjoy. (Now 52)

my fiance would love to cme and see the show and i would love to make the day out with him, we get married in just under a year, and we are both excited about what 2010 may bring us, so we are wanting 2009- 24th July 2010 to be packed with equally exciting things ti keeps us in high spirits for our big day as planning a wedding is quite stressful!! hope to see hammond, clarkson and may very very soon. hope we are lucky……

i watch ur show every week, especially my wife, she just loves hammond, and my job is workin with dents so any mistakes james will make i will fix,(hopefully,)!!

I would love to come and see this show but am put off by Hammonds new hair. Whats going on he’s aged and turned into James May. Go back to being sexy please……

I’ve been on the list for over 3 years now and it’s becoming a joke.
I know it’s a fantastic show and it would be great to see it live,however 3 years waiting for tickets surely isn’t normal.I’d get an operation on the NHS quicker than this and that’s saying something.
I wouldn’t mind paying if it would gaurantee a place…..

Just want to clarify to you guys on here, there is NO waiting list, as far as I understand, each year you have to reregister your name for the Reserve List each series. Years ago it was a waiting list, but if you read applause stores website it states that its impossible to have a list as it would be 20+ years long, so its like a lottery, you put your name in each time and see if you get drawn/picked. Hope this helps…

I’ve been on the list 3 years, and got 4 tickets for the new series! Havent been yet (i go in 3 days!).
The reason girls always seem to be with boyfriends, is because there’s a rule about an equal amount of men to women (i have 4 tickets, so 2 men, 2 women).
I have no idea how it works, but im worried about being turned away. Does anyone have any experience of it? I dont have a provisional, passport or driving liscence. I have student ID, and birth certificate and proof of name change. I am 21…no lie. but how strict are they?
