You’d assume that the Lego designers at Legoland might be quite handy with, er, Lego. So when an email dropped in The Mole’s inbox, excitedly announcing that the intrepid mini-builders at Legoland Windsor had immortalised the telly boys in plastic brick form… well, excitement levels were high.
They even sent over a picture as proof, as you can see.
Erm. Yes. Well. It’s a bit, er, disappointing, isn’t it? The Mole realises small moulded blocks don’t necessarily lend themselves to recreating a trio of swarthy presenters – and one white-suited, feral driving machine – but still, it’s not quite the monument of intricate design we expected.
Of particular worry is the windscreen arrangement on the Caterham (which, for some reason, has become a single seater). That’s just downright dangerous, isn’t it? Though not as dangerous as the real R500, admittedly. And what’s happened to poor Stiggy’s arms? Anyway, the Lego boys will be appearing in Miniland, so if you happen to be down that way keep an eye out for them. With a magnifying glass maybe.
So, can you do better? The Mole believes in you. Create your best homage to Top Gear telly out of Lego – though Duplo, Meccano or even sticky-backed plastic and kitchen roll will be accepted – take a photo and ping it over to tgweb@bbc.co.uk with the subject line ‘My first TG model’.
Successful entrants can expect fame, fortune and maybe even a Top Gear souvenir of some kind. Though maybe not.
UPDATE: Legoland has contacted us with some better pictures – as you can see – and told us all Legoland models are created with pieces accessible to everyone. Plus, they may even give away two tickets to the best entry we receive. So give it a punt.

I like the fact how they are all wearing these bright blue jeans. And I’m pretty sure that the guys who are currently building a real sized Lego house for James’s new series, could come up with some real sized Top Gear presenters as well. I doubt though whether James would want them anywhere near the house though.

Most lego cars (excluding the likes of Technics) are single seaters.
This is due to a standard Lego chassis being 4 “stubs” wide, just wide enough for a standard Lego person to be seated. And as it is 4 wide, it is only long enough (if I recall correctly, “City Car” and “TV Van” chassis were 10 stubs long, “F1 Car” and the wee sports car with the motorbike on a trailer were 9 stubs long) for no rear seat otherwise the design looks out of proportion.
Besides, a Lego car 8 stubs wide and long enough for 2 rows of seats would be too big for the Lego standard roadsets.

I too have some TG lego, I bought it on eBay last a while back. Personally, I think my lego TG looks better than the one they came up with, my wee people have faces at least!
That’s really cool that they took some square bits of plastic and reproduced the essence of 3 humans and 1 humanoid into instantly recognizable form. There’s no mistaking who that is. I love how Jeremy’s hair is at least as wide as his shoulders, and I can’t imagine how painstaking it was to carefully lay all the stripes in James’s shirt. That’s not rubbish at all!
I would say to keep the original picture up as well. It showed different details.
Its Lego… You can’t be all that accurate. If you want to make a double-seater R500 then you need to enlarge the scale twice…

Speaking of tiny little hammond, anyone see the Total Wipeout award show last night? What a waist of airtime. What they should have done was have 12 shows instead of 8, then, on the 13th show, it should have been the ‘best of the best’ challenge – the gimmick? The contestants have to run the qualifyer and wipeout zones BACKWARDS. Thats right! Backwards! In the qualifier they must run up a dry ramp at the end, and on the wipeout zone, they must pull themselves UP the water slide with a rope.

53: Lifeschool – Total Wipeout is a franchise series and will closely follow the standard format of other countries. As such, you can probably expect an end of series review to follow every season. On one hand, the review will undoubtedly delight the shows contestants, and those who have followed them throughout each episode. On the other, it’s a way for the host channel to gain an extra hour of frugal airtime by exhausing material from the show. Total Wipeout has maintained fairly consistant ratings over this initial season and no doubt the producers will soon get together to come up with fresh ideas for season 2. The presenter, while yet to make the show his own, has shown it is indeed possble to strike a balance between political correctness and humour in light entertainment, and one can only hope his talents are encouraged to shine all the brighter in the years to come. As to what those years may deliver, you can probably expect the BBC to follow the lead of other contries and to roll out a celebrity tie-in sooner or later. Lets hope Sir Richard himself will take a plunge or two; planting a welcome seed of empathy; and giving us all a real treat in the process. Total Wipeout Series 2 is scheduled to be with us again soon.
