The telly boys are down at the studio today (Wednesday) filming the second show in the new series – rehearsals are underway and the cameras start rolling about 2pm this afternoon.
What to expect this week? Jeremy, Richard and James put the needs of our younger viewers first by trying to find the perfect car for 17-year-olds. They negotiate insurance companies, accident repairs and a muddy music festival car park in the process – as you can see from the pictures.
Plus, Richard goes to Abu Dhabi to test the new Murcielago SV and, as you might have seen in this months’ Top Gear magazine, stages the race we’ve all waited 10 years for – Bugatti Veyron against mighty McLaren F1.
The star in our reasonably priced car this week is Twittering national treasure Stephen Fry, who returns for a second attempt at our track.
The Mole is at the track today preparing to bring you a behind the scenes studio gallery and a few more details in a blog or two in the morning.
And after that, we’ll bring you a proper preview on Friday and then it’s busness as usual after the show on Sunday night. That means behind the scenes content right here on TopGear.com after the show at 9pm and exclusive video outtakes and extras sprinkled through Monday and Tuesday.

I’m quite worried that Jeremy appears to believe a Volvo estate to be a 17-year-old’s ideal car. Er, no Jezza! I’m sorry, but as a 17-year-old, I wouldn’t even admit to considering a Volvo estate, or indeed a Volvo of any kind.
Did any of them pick a (proper) Mini? That’s supposed to be a very good first car. Well, I like to think so…
@ 32 – you are aware that most of it is vital machinery that keeps it all together at 253mph, right? Stripping out the interior and adding carbon fibre still wouldn’t shed off a great deal. Certainly not the 725kg it has over the McLaren.
I like the practical challenges, it’ll be so funny watching Clarkson wrestling to pitch his tent and then they’ll be James naming and ordering all his tent pegs……

Great show, great presenters, but TG’s policy is rubbish. You do know you have fans, and quite a lot of them, outside the UK don’t you? Then why in the hell don’t you unblock the most recent videos, like the backstage footage, and make them available for everyone? I’m quite sure that’s possible.

I can only copy what others have said on this blog and what millions of Topgear lovers arounds the world are saying… TopGEar is purely fantastic and Jeremy, James and Richard are the best people on TV. They should cancel all other BBC programes sack all the other presenters and split up the entire license fee between the three of them.
The first episode of the series was amazing, and i have the fullest respect for you all. Cant wait til next Sunday!
I know there has been talk of you opening up a TopGear pub when you leave the show. I hope you do not leave for many years to come as there will be billions of people checking into mental hospitals with depression , and we may as well throw out TV’s straight in the tip. If you do happen to open a pub i can garuntee it will probably be the best pub in the world, with queues stretching for miles.

Couldn’t really be bothered to look anywhere else to post this, I’m really happy the guys are back, but why is the FXX on the Power Lap Board? Isn’t that just for road-going supercars? It’s a mind blasting car, but I’m sorry, if Ferrari keep it at the factory and you can only use it on the track… it shouldn’t be there.
I love TopGear, but I think that season twelve and it looks like this one are a bit too childish. The boys forgot what the show is about. It is about cars, and not just three friends having fun. Im not saying that TOPGEAR is crap, but that its just a bit worse than it was used to be… I understand that the show NOW has a massive budget, but it doesn’t mean that something has to explode every episode.

Actually, a generously-proportioned Volvo is a great car to have when you’re young and you’ve not got a place of your own. I have very happy memories of the decrepit 440 a ‘friend’ of mine used to own, though I never did manage to get the boot prints out of the headlining

This is well timed that your are finding vehicles for the learner drivers as I have passed my driving test today!
I personally think that a small 4×4 is the perfect vehicle, as it won’t get stuck at a festival and it got loads of space.

Looking forward to the Lambo SV… always have liked the Murcielago – always looks like a proper Lambo, whereas the Gallardo is for the posers… (not saying it’s rubbish, but lacks the Grrrr of its bigger brother).
And yes. We know we all want to see the Veyron vs F1…! Will it be the 0-200 race? Will there be a test of Jezza’s claim for the F1 running at over 100mph before the Veyron starts, and the Veyron still winning!? Would be good to see that proven, even if ultimately, I still have a soft spot for the F1. Should be a good show boys! Nice one!

@Honeybadger – As far as i’m concerned, the budget is almost irrelevant because I could quite happily watch these 3 stooges just talking b*llocks for an hour (with the odd flaming caravan or banger race thrown in for good measure!
Of course, I do LOVE the big-budget challenges too but put these 3 in any situation (even a bus queue) and they’ll be entertaining!! 
I do agree though, that 8 episodes is not nearly enough.

After a days hard work lying in the garden eating malteasers before they melted I was shocked , no appalled that Jeremy only came 87th in Heat magazines poll of the worlds 100 sexiest men .

I have been trying for years to find out what happened to R.T.A cover.When the road traffic act mandated compulsory insurance for drivers Insurance Co.s were required to offer ‘Bare Bones’cover as a condition of writing insurance in what was a compulsory market.They hated doing this but it brought affordable cover to us budding motorists in the 1950s perhaps your staff can find out what happened to this idea as I keep being fobbed off by everyone from the minister of transport to the heads of the ins Co.s and my M.P.

Guys wake up!! This show is almost too painful to watch, it’s the same tired, turgid rubbish churned out for the last three or four seasons. I love cars and will watch any car show but then comes the abject disappointment of everything inbetween. To be fair the cars always look good and the way they’re shot is excellent but neither of these makes up for the tired scripts and lack of new ideas. Clarkson has to go and make way for new blood,
