Windows Vista forum: Can’t change folder icons in Start Menu – All Programs by: MrKassner February 26, 2010 9:43 AM PST Share Like this 0 people like this thread Staff pick Can’t change folder icons in Start Menu – All Programs by MrKassner – 2/26/10 9:43 AM I had Windows XP on my computer and one thing I customized is I changed all the default folder icons in the start menu to the icon of the program that was in the folder, it made finding programs a LOT faster and easier, but just last night XP completely messed up when I installed a program and I figured why not just install Vista since I’m used to Ubuntu and miss having a cleaner interface and visual effects.So skipping forward a bit, I’m now on Vista, got all my programs reinstalled and went to the folder where the start menu is and started changing a few of the icons (right click the folder – Customize tab – Change Icon… – select the icon I want – click OK – Apply – OK), but they won’t change. I even tried going to Windows Explorer and right clicking – select "Run As Administrator" and tried again but still no effect.Anyone have any ideas?
