Decent show, is it just me or did that episode seem to go really quickly? Great guest this week, be good if they keep up with the high class guests like Mr Fry. I think that TG should be extended to 2 hours so they can fit more in, more car tests etc. A 10 episode series of 2 hour episodes would be most welcome

My Dad was actually crying laughing this week. My brother (who is 18 and learning to drive)seemed to find it useful. In a drag race between the world’s fastest car and a car that is not the fastest car was really rather predictable.

On the matter of that hat, anything that cover’s May’s hair can only be good.

Loved it loved it loved it. Laughed out loud several times during the first half of the cars for 17 year olds item.

Just to say that I never had any problems pulling in my Dad’s old Volvo 240. Admittedly, it wasn’t beige: it was midnight metalflake blue, had smoked windows, a full black leather interior, twin turbo and a carphone – according to one friend, “the coolest hearse he’d ever seen.”

Oddly, the cargo area turned out to be the most exciting bit.. there’s something oddly distracting about having two PVC-clad goth girls in the dog cage. And trying not to think about how big the fully carpeted area would be with the back seat laid flat, and what those handily placed cargo rings at each corner could be used for. *gulp*

well i was almost wetting myself laughing through the cheap car challenge …brilliant and how cruel are richard and jeremy to james and also loving the lambo and the bugatti and mcclaren f1…brilliant just brilliant!thank you ….bring on next week!

Amazin show well funny with james’s cd player and it was obvious the veyron would beat the mclaren, thought the lp670-4sv would have won against the slr 722 though. Great show anyway just thought the mclaren would have gone round the track

Absolutely loved the show. Simply the fact that JC doesn’t give a shit who he offends or anything to do with political correctness, means in my book it’s the best damn show on tv!

Sorry guys, The Lambo, the Bugatti vs F1, and Stephen Fry, all great. But I just didn’t get anything out of the 17 year olds film.

I was driving at 17 years old in a ‘95 Peugeot 106, I’ve always had my own insurance, I’ve never attempted a hand brake turn in a car park, my cars are always standard, I don’t drive around with the stereo cranked up to maximum [and never have], Never been to a music festival, and I’ve had one accident that wasn’t a roll over, and it also wasn’t my fault. You could say I had nothing to relate to, and I just found it stupid with no humour.

That has got to be the first Top Gear Episode that I haven’t enjoyed, in fact.

Now I’m going to get slagged off for daring to dislike an episode, no doubt. Well, opinions can be good or bad, get used to it I’m afraid.

What a show! I just viewed it 10 minutes ago and have still not got over the awesomeness of it. It was simply amazing!! There was an amazing Lamborghini, rubbish 17-year olds cars (i.e. Hyundi, Volvo and Volkswagen) and enough humour to ammuse the most boring person. Keep up the good work!

Today’s show was great!!!! Loved it.

I thought it was brilliant as always, 14 years old, a girl and into top gear, some of my mates think am weired.
Anyway the show was immense x

Jeremy trying to stop the runaway car had me laughing my head off, then when he turned on James’s radio while he was trying to park at night

i thaught your show was very good and funny i loved the 1 mile drag race betwene the mclaren and the bugtti.

Loved the show as always but sorry Jeremy you obviously do not understand insurance – the cost for a 17 year old may be multiple times the value of the car but thats not all that insurance pays out for – what if the young driver causes an accident, damages a very expensive car and causes injury to the driver – we are looking at way over £100,000 payout!

This season is turning out to be the best one yet

My girlfriend has lost her father last week and understandably is a bit out of sorts.
She did enjoy today’s show though and laughed a lot.

I was there on Wednesday During the recording. And now I’ve seen it all edited back up. I’m glad to see I made shot. but other than that it was a very good show. If the Consumer advice is taken with a pinch of salt (I never had 2.5k for a car @ 17) also noting the Scrapage scheme. the bigger issue there is that most people with over 10yr old cars have 10yr old cars because they cant afford new ones!

James May is actually quite cool

If anyones wondering why the mclaren beat the veyron off the line was because of the veyrons turbo chargers which wernt working well because of the heat. If the race was in England the veyron would have won by a clear mile. Great show though!
p.s I really thought the lambo would beat the mercedes.

Normally I don’t like the whole ‘crash bang wallop’ thing because it seems so staged now (it didn’t at first) but I thought today’s show was pretty good (so compared to everything else on TV it was bl**dy great!).

However, TG is saying it is affected by budget cuts so the last show will, to quote your producer, be ‘utter utter shite’, so why smash into a Passat and Scenic bought for a few grand? Use an old Metro, save some cash and put the money into a better show. Spend it on what counts please.

BUT, the best part was the babe over Richard’s shoulder during the news – absolute cracker!! Any chance she could become a regular part of show from now on?? I mean TG already has everything you could want, a bit of eye candy would just top it all off….

The show had me is fits on the floor with May’s non-stop rave! Absolutley hilarious!

BUT I agree with comment 20. It should be 2 hours long!

You cant even compare the ssc (piece of crap) to the bugatti(God). the bugatti beats it to 60, 100, 200 and 250!! which is where the ssc sneaks past at 2 mph faster which wouldnt even happen because there wouldnt even be a long enough runway!! And dont even get me started on the looks of both cars. The bugatti looks beautiful with its curves, two tone paint, its open engine bay and its luxury interior. and then thers the ssc, square, ugly, shite stripped out interior!!! anyone disagree??

Brilliant had everything top gear should much better then last weeks. Had everything top gear should, hilarity “common sense” and ridiculously fast cars with brilliantly good commentary. it makes me sad that in a year ill be at uni without a tv unable to watch top gear. Still think you should get rid of stars in fast cars

Good show as usual. The teenagers car feature was good, especially the quiet late entrance segment. So funny seeing Clarkson smash the shed, etc. Nice surprise was the final race, and I’d never had predicted that the Mclaren F1 would do so well against the Veyron. Up to 250km/h it was even-ish but then the Veyron started really reeling it in over that to finish first. I don’t know how hard you bribed or blagged to get the cars, but it was worth it!

this was a good epsiode except for the challenge, i do agree that a lot young drivers are idots (im 18 but dont drive much) but the challenges and incidents just seemed slightly ..forced. like its lost its suprise, or something, i dunno

Simply brilliant. I was at Dunsfold on Wednesday and while I had a fantastic time, I wasn’t sure that the challenge was going to work that well in the context of the completed episode, though the Lambo, the Bugatti and the McLaren were knicker-wettingly good. Not that this detracts in any way from the experience, which was absolutely epic, but I came home and said, “it was the best day, and you’ll enjoy it, but I don’t think it was a classic.” HOWEVER… I was wrong. One of the best episodes in a very long time. I think this is shaping up to be a fantastic series. Nice one, guys.

Maybe the Veyron does beat the Ultimate Aero on paper.

My point that you completely missed though was that TOP GEAR STATED that the race between the Veyron and F1 was between the ‘two fastest cars in the world’.

Which, as I stated, is FACTUALLY WRONG and therefor should have:

a. Either been worded differently

or

b. Been a race between the Veyron and the Ultimate Aero.

I never once formed an opinion on the Veyron being outclassed by the SSC Ultimate Aero, I simply stated TOP GEAR got it’s facts wrong.

Additionally, for a show that is all about motoring and even more so, a show with a strong focus on the ‘pinup’ luxury car market, I am very suprised the SSC Ultimate Aero has not yet been featured on Top Gear yet beside in a small news item.

MEMO TO THE TOP GEAR PRODUCTION TEAM:

Get the SSC Ultimate Aero on the show, get The Stig in it for a power lap and then let’s see where it ranks on the table yes?

gluing May’s stereo was just… inspired. To be fair though i think James picked the best car and best modifications, i cant see any of my mates PAYING to drive around in a Volvo estate Also, although all my mates think hand brake turns are awesome (which they are), i dont know of any girl who likes them. i know lots of girls who would think anyone who does them is a t**t.

The Lambo/Veyron/Mercedes/Mcl aren film was brilliant. Overall, a great, great episode!

Just to add to a sort-of “What i want to see on TopGear” wishlist, how about a film on company tuned cars? there’s tons of Hamann, Techart, 9ff etc cars about, reviewing them would be nice to see

I enjoyed the show, the race was brilliant although I would love to have seen it inside the Bugatti uncut. Can’t believe how quick the F1 got away from the line.

Anyway, the only issue is the picking on James. Supergluing his radio wa all a bit too ’staged’ for me. Still made me laugh though and thats all I can ask !!

Forget the Aero SSC which has an interior made out of cereal boxes and duck tape and looks like a cheapo kit car version of the Lamborghini Diablo.

Jeremy stood next to one once at the Dubai motorshow 1994 I think, it was the Uber rare Dauer 962 the Unicorn of Hypercars which can potentially can eat the big Mac and Veyron for breakfast.

It’s rare mysterious and street legal everywhere except in the US I believe. It probably falls into the category of too low volume to be considered production, to low to the ground to pass the Top Gear speed bump test although it can raise hydraulically.

Big Job to get hold of one though it is rarer than hen’s toothpaste oh and it has been suggested that it is so slippery it is invisible to speed radar!

On it’s own or against a mere Veyron (the Atlantean bus of Hypercars) would be amazing.

Desperate to see one in action fingers crossed for a future series.

Amazing Episode though still creative after all these years.

Don’t become PC just because a few people think you are rude! If all of us would have thought you were rude and simple, then how in the world would you have in excess of 400 Million viewers around the world!!!

I simply loved this weeks episode! My first car was a second-gen Golf and I bloody well liked it. Fitted a huge stereo and tinted the windows to attract girls. Didn’t work all the well. Took me a few years to figure out why.

It is however now quite clear to me why it didn’t work! I should have gotten myself a Grinr application!

Love the classy Mr. Fry on the show. Looking great and was as always Quite Interesting!

the single best line in this weeks show was when richard told the insurance company he’d had no crashes in the last five years, the book that he and Mindy wrote sould seem to prove that to be a little bit of a porky!

fab show, you are the single best production team working in TV today, keep up the good work and if this series is only 7 eps long, please tell me they’ll be another series in the autumn.

The MacF1 Bug race was over a mile and we saw that the Mac is quicker over a quarter mile and maybe even the half mile too.

I grew up idolising that car and its nice to know that it was justified. I love the Veyron too though but give me a Zonda F roadster anyday……….. and a Mac F1

I also am intrigued by the blonde bits in Hammonds hair, interesting!

James May can wear a hat or not wear a hat, as far as I’m concerned he could show up in a bin liner and still look AMAZING.

So when are they actually going to do a road test on a car we can buy? Mondeo, Insignia, New Mazda3, Hyundai i20, Ka, Megane, Mito, C3 Picasso, Soul and Ibiza are all new cars that the general public can identify with and see every day. We look for top gear’s honest reviews because they can put the cars through their paces unlike the public who are expected to test drive new cars like they are made of glass. Keep silly super/hyper car vids, but give us more info about affordable cars.

The Fiesta was only tested because of similar moaning from other viewers.

I love TG, I thought last weeks show was brilliant. Seeing Clarkson out of breath and covered in coal was pricless, Shumy was also a great sport. TG has everything that a good show should have, its right up there in telly heaven with The Sopranos for me, but i feel that show two lacked a little something, maybe its becoming a little samey and predictable, it felt stale. How can you follow show one? Has it peaked too early? Maybe broadcasting a live show or a few new features could do the trick. Sorry guys.

since i don´t have bbc2 in Portugal i had to wait for an ilegal download… still it’s was… as always… a worth time waiting…

I liked the show, but the boys should not forget that the show is about cars, and not just three friends having fun. So guys I think that series 12 and this one as well are a bit tooo childish. I understand u got a big budget to blow on petrol and crisps but do remember that we- ordinary people watch this so make it a bit more down to earth.

when doing the 17year old car race challenge you should have had ’stigs’ 17year old brother called ‘little stig’ show u how to do it before clarkson,hammond & may did their go.

Loved it ! The challenge was funny and after a while another really funny interview with the guest in the reasonally priced car I thought while watching what would heaven be like and one of the thing aside being touched inapproperly would be endless Top Gear episodes on me TVscreen.. Keep going!

I loved it when they turned the stereo on in the quietness challenge!

Excellent show. The crash race during the challenge could have been a bit more to the point though – you didn’t let those young girls distract you, right?

The Stig doing copies of his helmet in the back of shot, when Hammond was talking about the 17 year old car insurance almost made me wee a little. I had to go back and watch it a few times. Too funny, loved it all.

I absolutely Adore it! The whole 17 year old challenge was fun, the Lamborghini Murcielago SV was amazing, that was a very fun drag race, Mr. Fry made me laugh real hard, and the race between the Titans actually left me thinking, a lot, who did the F1 did that, I mean, on Paper it shouldn’t . But then again is like Richard Said it, It is the real world, nothing of that matters. James was Funny with his music (the electronica one that is)

Richard claimed it was a showdown that all the petrolheads in the world were waiting for, I certainly wasn’t, try testing more than just straight line speed with the Maccer and the useless, overweight Veyron.

The dragraces between the LP670-4 against the SLR 722, as well as the Veyron against the McLaren F1 were indeed history. It was awesome to watch and I predict it’ll be youtubed for a very very long time.

Great show but I think that it is more dumbed down than ever before..maybe too preoccupied with attracting a teenage audience? It seems like it is all gloss and no substance these days. I understand they feel the need to stick to the same formula like glue but a bit of diversity and imagination would be nice.

My petty moan is that I get annoyed at the increasingly gormless studio audience that applauds/laughs at the wrong moments but are dead quiet and blank-faced when an intelligent joke/comment is made – most are obviousley there just to be on tv. Still..TG is a billion times better than 5th gear!

I do love the continued irreverence though – anything to piss off the ‘Daily Mail’ and it’s readers!

Yeah sorry guys but I’m 17 and there’s NO WAY I’m even CONSIDERING thinking about the possibility of maybe contemplating the idea of perhaps looking into the likelyhood of buying a beige Volvo 940 estate. Or a crappy Hyundai from the 1940s, or a turqoise Golf III.

Still, what a funny episode! TopGear gold! And the drag race was quite good, although for me the Lambo v SLR race was a better watch in terms of closeness. What a car!!

One thing wrong
The Veron isnt the fastest road car in the world and hasnt been since 2007, it was beaten out by the american twin turbo SSC Ultimate Aero
with a top speed of 256MPH. Thats the car that you guys said would never be built…huh…
just kills me every time you guys say its the fastest ever

Though i liked the epiode, the bit with Clarkson wheel spinning had me in stiches. I’m beginning to get bored of Clarkson and Hammond picking n James in the competitions. If i was James, i’d of pulled the fuse on the stereo.

IMO the F1 is still the nicest car on the block. The Veyron is too “comfy”…

I know TG isn’t the best place for accuracy (it is a comedy program, after all), but repeatedly stating that the Veyron and F1 are the fastest cars in the world was so blatantly wrong that it annoyed me. The SSC Aero (hmm…chocolate) is faster than either and there are a few faster than the F1.

The “car for 17 year olds” segment was funny. Childish, but that’s what TG does best. Insurance 10+ times the value of the car is normal – is there really that much money made in insurance claims by young men, or do insurance companies just overcharge young men because they can get away with it?

Great show! I have to admit, I would have given my left testicle up for medical research to be Hammond in this weeks show (in Abu Dabi, that is)! Very surprised that the SV was done over by the 722 (although not by much) and I do have my doubts as to quite how hard little Hammy was trying in the Veyron..? Although I don’t blame TG for not wanting to show the Mclaren up, and yes I know the power to weight ratios are in the F1’s favour, I understood that the Bug is nearly a whole second quicker from 0-60!? Hmmm… what happened, Hammy!?? I can only imagine how many complaints you’ll be getting now, from all the fun Nazis about you “glorifying speed” due to the drag races… but still, I for one loved every minute of it!!!

What a mess Richard looks. Gawd sake he looks like he,s taking a role as Stig of the dump [no pun intended] the show as usual is ENTERTAINMENT par none. Apart from Richard ,geez im not a fan of his anyway but by gawd he lets Jeremy & James down. The bit where they were 17 year olds trying to get insurance was really enlightening. To see how the insurance companies do not like teengers driving. When i was 17 i was driving a 2 litre Capri which cost me £150 a year ,geez could you imagine a kid doing that now?????????????????

i can’t believe last night’s show!!! it was absolutely staggering, i mean, i had never seen such a grat show you TG guys!! adore the show… by the way, what a fantastic machine that murcielago, it’s actually my favourite caar (along with audi’s r8)… and that drag race!! don’t even tell me about it (though i was a little surprised at the beggining when the mclaren out-accelerated the buggati…)

I would not want a Veyron , even if i could. I love the Mcclaren f1 , like i love the Cossie,s rather than the japanese rubbish. Of course the best cars in the world are Aston Martin followeed by Audi. And just a quick finisher , dont you think that the Mcclaren out shone the Veyron in looks , it is gorgeous.

The Veyron and McLaren feature was a dream. The female equivalent of watching Brad Pitt and George Clooney together. Heaven, for this lady anyway! Love the bit with Stig in the office. The one programme that the BBC can do well consistently. Thank you for making my weekend viewing. Now, can you arrange for me to have a go in the Veyron please??????

I love Top Gear, don’t get me wrong, but sometimes the presenters (especially Hammond) completely miss the point of really important stuff. The piece on the Mclaren F1 and Veyron was truly awful. Sure the race was a world first, and one I’ve been waiting years for, but the pre race ramble was rubbish-littered with inaccuracies. Many younger viewers will not know much about the Mclaren F1, and this was a missed chance to educate them about the greatest car ever made. Contrary to what Hammond said, only the Mclaren was built without compromise (the only car to follow it’s design brief so faithfully) – not the Veyron. Look at the development of the Veyron and you will see it is hugely compromised. The Mclaren is a hugely impressive piece of engineering and this point was not expanded upon enough. Quite frankly, having nearly 400bhp more, the Veyron should have completely destroyed the aged Mclaren, but it won by a fairly small margin: the Mclaren was faster off the line as well. The Veyron might be good in a straight line but as was proved in the last series, it’s not that fast round a track. Give the F1 to the Stig round the track, and I’m convinced it would beat the Veyron. Even if it doesn’t, the purity of the drive and speed is something that cannot be experienced in any other machine. ‘It’s not about how fast you go, but how your heart beats in those few seconds’. Come on Top Gear, give the Mclaren F1 a proper full length road test on the show…and put it round the track

@david The ssc aero is a one off car it holds the world land speed record for a road legal car the bug is the fastest ever production car. it is for sale and there is more than one a year built unlike the ssc. im not certain about that but i think im right

Absolutely brilliant show! It was great to see some off the best supercars together on one show.Also I tried to buy one off them mercedes mclaren slr 722 things and they are completely sold out. GREAT SHOW!!!

I laughed all the time, mostly because of Stephen. But the drag race, no laughs there…

I would definately want a Veyron if I could – why wouldn’t you?! All that power under your foot!? I truly love the F1, and have done ever since it came out. I love it for the fact that it is utterly uncompromising, and designed to be the very best it could be for the time it was made. But the same now applies to the Veyron. Although the Bug is a rather more plush and pampering experience, it is a technical tour de force. I think you have to admire each car for their own achievements… and yest, of course I would have both if I could… along with many, many others!

The best looking car of the show though for me was the SV, by a long way. The F1 is iconic, but looking a little dated now, and the Bug has never been a fave of mine in the looks department, although it looks awesome in black. The SV though, with it’s sharp, purposeful road-going-missile like lines is truly stunning. All apart from the tacky SV stitched decals… eeeewwww!

It was so funny!!! I couldn’t stop laughing with the challenge, hahaha!! I just adore TG and thanks for the epic race, I’m so thrilled that the Bugatti won, it’s such a superb car! Can’t wait for Friday for the repeat :p

I am on the same page with Angelo. I appreciate the fact that you “hope the visual beauty of Hammond’s Lambo test and the world’s first ever race between the Bugatti Veyron and the McLaren F1 more than made up for the daftness” but sorry guys, it didn’t. I am especially disappointed that this review was this bad because there was so much hype over this and going ALL the way to Abu Dhabi you’d expect something more amazing otherwise you’d have stayed home. I mean, look at your reviews done on the Isle of Man – the Vantage V8 vs 911 vs M6 comparison and the review of the M3 CSL! And in comparison, all we get for this was just a little drive around and a drag race.

There was so much that was lacking from you guys – use of many factual yet entertaining references like when Hammond illustrated the BMW Z4M with the hot chilli and using very interesting tests to indirectly show the car’s capabilities instead of just “saying it’s so” like the braking test with the Merc SLR.

I am very disappointed with this week’s episode. After all these years of watching Top Gear this really is sub-standard. If it was Fifth Gear, I’d let it pass but you guys are Top Gear! I’m still hoping for the best for the rest of the series because as I’m sure many will agree, for some reason each season sucks really bad at the start but things start to pick up as the season goes along.

PS Really sorry if this sounded really harsh but as an ardent fan of the show (I’m still with you guys ) I feel it would be injustice if I kept quiet.

Brilliant.. Loved it! The challenges for 17 year olds were great and brought me back to the day when I was trying to buy my first car and impress girls with it (even if I was unsuccessful!) As I’ve just finished my A2s I have nothing to do in my life anymore, except wait for my results, so Top Gear is a God send.

Sundays show was fantastic I’m currently not very popular with my mates as I will not stop talking about Sundays show, thats how much I enjoyed it. My friends are constantly reminding me that I’ve already told them about Captain Slow’s stereo, Hamsters body kit and Jezza’s up hill challenge, so im currently typing this with impenetrable Gafatape over my mouth.

Wathced it with my dad, a man who considers David Dimblby to be somewhat of a hippy, and even he burst out laughing when JCs volvo went straight into that summer house. I’m 19, and am going to change my aged Clio for new car soonish, i was thinking golf or focus, but clearly a beige volvo is what i need. Thanks TG for this value consumer advice.

I watched it at home, and when James May’s new love of music was shown i couldn’t stop laughing. also it said in Top Gear magazine, that the 3am challenge was going to be legendary. That did not disapoint

woot an episode, brilliant. You had to leave the bug vs f1 race to the end, it was suspense. Im a bit dissapointed in the bug race as in the magazine you state that it could not use the launch control button. How come the spoiler on the bugatti came up during the race?. Once the turbos on the bug fired up, the distance it covered to get in the lead is amazing, especially in hypercar terms. The stig on the photocopier when the lads where in the office searching for cars, funny as hell

the part where JEREMY CLARKSON was stuck in the field was epic and the anarchy flag AND the summer house which suffered many injuries in the hands of JC and the BUG/MCL showdown but it was rather pointless cuz BUG is the fastest, all topgear did was prove that MCLAREN is not faster than BUG????! Stephen frys lap was amazing, it was smooth

The Drag race between the McLaren and the Veyron was certainly interesting, but without some lap times around a curcuit to balance the books, then the comparison is meaningless.

IMHO the McLaren would eat the Veyron for breakfast on the TG test track.

the show was i adorded it but i did not see the race between the bugatti veyron and the malaren f1 but apart from that i loved it espially the 17 – year old car challange.

Yes, I am a HUGE fan of top Gear. I love the presenters and I watch all the repeats on Dave…

But lets be honest, although there were moments of utter brilliant and hilarity in last nights episode (I nearly cried at James’s stero on the quiet test, and the Stig photocopying his head – brilliant) – there were also moments that just didn’t gel.

the biggest non-geller of the night as the report from Abu-Dabi which was just dull. Nice camera angles but the script didn’t work for me.

And also the news didn’t work for me either. I know we all LOVE Jeremy being non PC and he’s the funniest thing on TV when he rants – but I just feel it’s being taken a little too far now. One dig a series is so funny – but there were about 6 in one show last night. And that kind of kills the spontenaity and the humour of it all.

Thought Stephen Fry was a legend.

I thought yesterday’s episode was very entertaining. Not quite as good as the first episode, and slightly under the very high bar that you’ve set for yourselves in the last few series, but nevertheless greatly enjoyable.

8.5/10 Loved JC controlling James’ stereo. Even my wife laughed. Would be intertested to know at what point/speed on the mile drag did the Veyron eventually catch the McLaren.

I loved the first show! An absolute belter.

Last nights show was a bit staged and contrived although funny in parts.

The humour was getting crude and a bit unpleasant yesterday, especially coming from grown men. Do the presenters really want to come across as dirty old perverts? Remember there are children watching this show!

I still love it flaws and all and it is the ONLY essential TV viewing in our house.

Long may TG continue to entertain and occasionally inform!

What a good show again guys, you never fail to disappoint! The drag race between the Veyron and the Mclaren F1 was amazing to watch! It’s kind of made me wonder, would it be an amazing race if you put the Bugatti Veyron up against todays Formula 1 cars as they share almost the same amount of horsepower? or better still, the Veyron against a Jet powered truck which ive seen videos of which is staggering! On another note which I know wasn’t on last nights show, but the new Ford KA, has it been reviewed, I was driving around last night and came across the new one which is absolutely vulgar and disgusting!

it is soooo wrong to wish the weekend away so that Sunday 20:00 hrs can arrive so I can watch Top Gear but that is what I find myself doing!!

The second show was not a patch on the first show.

It was too staged, too contrived and too “dirty-old-men” ish….HOWEVER I absolutely LOVE the show and NEVER miss it. My criticism is meant to help and assist not insult.

Very good episode last night and that race between the LP670 and the SLR 722 was absolutely fantastic – Hammond’s commentary were both funny and exciting, great camera shots used to. Overriding memory was the V12 howling as it started to reign the McMerc back in – what a noise!

This is how racing or a test drive of the car should be, just like this week shows one, a mile long race in Abu Dhabi was brilliant and the fact that it was in someone luxury and super car, the image actually blended in for the first time. drag race shows the potential of the car then doing test drive or how fast it around the track of Top gear.

Reading through the comments on here, it becomes increasingly apparent how many people don’t seem to really pay much attention to the cars (the reason true TG fans tune in for)… and just watch it for the cocking about. The humour raises a smile, and yes I did get a few laughs from yesterday’s show, but it’s also becoming rather contrived and forced. It seems that TG keeps getting split down the line between its fans… those who are the car fans, and those who just want light-hearted entertainment… and IMO, the programme seems to be losing steam. I mean, where else can it go? What else can it do? And will cock and gay gags still get giggles another 2 series down the line..!? Not that I want to even think, let alone utter these words, but is it time to call it a day boys? Go out on high..?
Well, I know these things are pretty much numerically governed – the numbers keep tuning in, then TG will keep being produced. I’m not naive enough to think that TG will ever return to the tyre-kicking days of Quentin and Tiff et al, but I do wonder how long this horse will take its flogging and whether TG can sustain its current format for much longer. I enjoy watching the boys for their love of cars and boyish humour, but don’t you think things need to change. Evolve? Dare I say, grow up?!

In a nutshell, TG seems like the unwitting victim of its own success. I wonder how long it can continue.

But then, if I were Jezza, Hamsteror James, I’d be milking it for as long as physically possible too……

Loved this weeks show.. clearly aimed at the lower end of drivers – us ‘just passed’ newbies. Thanks alot, great humour.. loved James’ sound system and Hamsters’ bonnet flattening technique. I really liked the Lambo that Hammond tested out for its last hurrah in the desert about the UAE, but I think the feature itself went on too long.. the same car with very very similar shots going round the same bit of bendy desert track.. should have had a three way with the Veyron and McLaren…!

Looking forward to next week.. can we hope for some explosions? x

Funny in parts but far too “obvious” and getting way too crude for family viewing. The banter with Fry was just plain embarrassing.

Show two was a bit quieter than show 1. The main film of cars fo 17 year olds wasn’t particularly great but both Stephen Fry and the Lambo film was great. Stephen was a great guest (as he was first time round) and I hope this is series that gives those who haven’t drove the Daewoo (Chevrolet my ass). Jonathan Ross, Ian Wright, Jodie Kidd and Lionel Richie, well you did try to kill him last time, are the ones I would love to see back.

Loved the “quiet parking” side splittingly funny.

Fry was sick, not at all funny.

Veyron vs McClaren was way too short.

Hammond needs a haircut.

Love the show, can not get enough of Top Gear, such a shame its only on for an hour. I look forward to every Sunday, and every episode just gets better. Keep the Stig’s identity a secret. it is better not knowing.

Not the best TG. Too artificial and the stunts so obviously stage managed. the humour was coarse and not up to your usual standard. I will still watch you though I guess you can’t have a best episode every week.

Brilliant and Awesome show but you don’t need the Brand/Ross humour, it just spoils the show and makes the presenters seem lazy. Any fool can swear and be crude, TG is renowned for it’s wit and JC’s rapier put downs.

Great 17 yr old car report, hilarious, brilliant Veyron, McClaren, Lambo, but the show went flat back in the studio. The fellers seemed to think crude = funny, It doesn’t. Still love the show but please don’t go all foul mouthed on us. we watch this as a family and it is the outstanding TV highlight of the week, in fact the only TV we watch as a family. it will be a real shame if the kids can’t watch it anymore.

Being 17 and about to buy a car i have to say the first 15 mins of this episode was the funniest bit of top gear in years. (The superglue was genius). Its not really helped me in my choice of car though. Ah well, a old mini it is!

The road test and track stuff were brlliant. I agree the studio was flat and frankly embarassing. Luv ya all, keep going TG. Nowhere near as good as series 1.

If there is an area that need working on it is the studio bit. It needs a re-hash. the news is not news, the star in a rpc is getting boring and the banter is getting cruder and cruder instead of funnier and funnier.

I thought one of the mind bogglins statistics of the veyron when it came out was that in a race it could let a maclaren f1 get to 100mph and still beat it to 200mph.

I loved the consumer advice for 17 yr olds, i’m glad others are feeling our plight about insurance etc, and the insight into girls premiums isn’t anything new to us.

I too am a 17 year old who recently passed my test first time round, i too feel i’m the best driver – similarly to Jeremy – However unlike Jeremy i haven’t wound up in a field in the middle of the night as yet, but thanks for the confidence booster!

Only last week my friend and I raced along the Corniche (Lambo vs SLR) between those very same lights, although we were in a Mazda 6 vs. Jeep Cherokee SRT8, and there is a speed camera along there. As for the other road, thats about 25 miles away, near the airport, I believe, and there are plenty more of those. UAE: best driving country…IN The Woooorlllld!

Loved last week, although it was a bit different, couldn’t put my finger on it. Yesterday was the best! You had me laughing out loud at least three times, the fun the TG3 had was dripping from the screen, loved Rich’s oneliners in the desert, amazing filming, both in UAE and at ‘the festival site’, really felt for James, sat with my nose glued to the telly during the office-part, urged the McLaren on from my sofa, the news was back on track (and topic… ), do you want me to go on? In short: if you FORCED me to choose between last week’s and yesterdays show, I’ld go for yesterday. No doubt about it. It’s official: TG’s back! Really enjoy your blog, Mole. Superb writing with a fenomal twist.

BTW I am the best driver in the world, but I have failed twice. The test here in Abu Dhabi is complete shit. 30 secs, and a tiny mistake will send you off for more training and more revenue for the licensing companies. And the result? Drivers here are crap.

Fantastic episode!! With the Lambo LP 670/4 SV and the unbelievable showdown between the Veyron and the McLaren this episode will surely become one of the classics!

A few observations:

- all the background and details during the shots when Jezza, Hammond, and May were in the office trying to find cars were hilarious! i.e. the Stig trying to work with a copy machine, Jezza having 2 pics on his desk: his wife and Will ) and May having the pic of the Queen! It was absolutely hilarious!

- I nearly wet myself every time that glorious sound of the Lambo’s V12 came on

- the Veyron vs. McLared showdown was all the more spectacular as they were racing at 170mph through a city’s downtown area!! This is one of the ultimate fantasies..

- Hammond really needs a haircut

During this week’s TG my husband was in the garden, cutting some kind of vegetation. I laughed so loud and long that he came in to see what was going on. Presumably he thought I was having a ‘crisis’.

Excellent entertainment, and great cars (with the possible exception of the beige land yacht).

Having finally got over my sulk that I didnt get tickets for this show and 2 girls I know did.I spent alot of it looking for them in audience and did see them grrrrr.
The show itself didnt let itself down,very funny the driveway not waking parents bit I nearly peed with giggles,
Now I can’t go without a Hammond comment,Honey please just a little trim back to how it was series 10 would be great.Not that you are not still lovely and i shall stop here.

The Veyron isnt the fastest road car in the world and hasnt been since 2007, it was beaten out by the american twin turbo SSC Ultimate Aero
with a top speed of 256MPH. Thats the car that you guys said would never be built…huh…

As a devout petrol head I’ve always been a TG fanuntil this long awaited serries. I think all the team is great but sadly the show is more suited to CBBC now with all the silly antics. We fans want see the latest cars the supercars and some good info on whats around but sadly it doesn’t appear to be happening on TG anymore. The last programme for example was 50 minutes playing stupid games “for your fun” and 10 minutes about cars and I’m sure I’m not the only one making these comments. You’ve bad mouthed Fifth Gear in the past but I must confess after seeing the last programme, and I dont like the team particularly they are running rings round you lot so I will now be moving my allegience to them until I see the stuff that made TG the top programme. I would like to think someone out there might read these comments and come back to me or is this just another silly wish on my part. Boys are forgetting what the show is about. It is about cars, and not just three friends having fun.
I understand that you have an enormous budget to blow on petrol and crisps but suprecars should be a treat, something special. So don’t just throw them at the viewer every five minutes and expect them to be amazed.

Too much prating about, not enough cars. Too much filth not enough humour. Too much promoting gay, not enough hetro, too much smugness not enough hunger. I still love TG but SIARPC has to go, it is really BORING now! Fry was awful, just plugging queer gadgets! Terrible!

AMAZING the actual percentage of people commenting on loving the show compared to those not so happy,understand everyone entitled to their views and muchly welcomed,however you sound rather childish yourselves.
This style of TG is clearly bringing in the viewing public so I don’t think the format will change.

The first show was far superior, really interesting and classy, the stunts last night were cheap and contrived, if I had my doubts before now I’m certain that the star in a car is past its sell by date. I’m still a huge fan but all the crudeness and Fry’s awful smug waffle was horrible, especially with children watching.

Me too! I absolutely adore it and hubby and I never miss it! But ( personally ) I think some bits do need a tweak. The sudio part is generally the weakest part and the stunts & track work are the best and funniest bits. I think all the smuttiness with Fry last night finished it off for me, I had to cover my kids ears!

Another masterpiece. The well loved formula of Three men in a boat, well car. Great challenge, had me laughing my sock off.

Another great show worth watching. Loved the challenge for finding cars for 17-year-old boys as well as trying to figure out what their “lifestyle” was (which was quite hilarious). I probably laughed my head off quite a lot. Also loved the race between the Veyron and McLaren F1, but I had a feeling the one with the most technology was going to win anyways.

I wonder what next week’s show will feature…

Hello I just want to congratulate everyone who has worked on the past 2 shows they have been fantastic. The first show was great for its drama- the race, stig reveal etc but I couldn’t have enjoyed yesterday’s programme more. I love the wierd and wonderful consumer challenges and The chat with Stephen Fry was brilliant, he and the trio seemed totally relaxed and seemed to really enjoy the episode. I cannot wait until next week. Thanks again for the show and this space where myself and other fans can hang out.

I have read most of the comments above( yes, really!!) and the overall theme I feel is that Top Gear is absolutely unmissable TV but it needs to be careful that it does not have sacred cows that might need culling ( SIARPC?) and that is does not alienate the family audience by being too crude.

Personally I love it!

The interview with Fry went to far for family TV and was humiliating and distasteful. All the constant talk about COCK and PENIS was wearing a bit thin too and spoiled what was otherwise a cracking edition of my favourite TV show.

Loved James hat and loved the night time parking. Comments about SIARPC are spot on – kill it or change the format, it’s too time consuming and tedious – except when Jezza falls in love with Will Young!

This Sunday’s episode was genius, Deffinly one of the funniest things I have ever watched. With cars for 17 year old’s what was hilarious and the show down between the Bugatti and
Mc Laren F1 it was Brilliant to watch.

Hmmm. Kind of a mixed bag again this week. The UAE films were absolutely gorgeous, and a timely reminder of what this show used to be about: cars. Not just cars, in a dry, pedantic, anorak way, but about the way cars make you feel. TG has always been the best communicator of this feeling, and by light years. Richard’s Abu Dhabi films last night were no exception.

The seventeen year old challenge, unfortunately, is where it all went a bit pear shaped. It started off well, with a great little behind-the-scenes glimpse of the lads at work in the office. But in short order, it became another dicking-about-for-an-inte rminable-amount-of-time film, completely indistinguishable from the weakest such films of the past (roadie-ing for The Who, the DIY limos, etc.): funny enough on the first pass, but with absolutely zero replay value whatsoever. As a great fan and admirer of Stephen Fry, I’m a little disappointed that the SIARPC segment wasn’t better. Pity.

And for #128, I am sure they’ll hop right on that for you, son.

Sorry yet another comment for people to trawl through but I get annoyed when people complain about the comment that JC makes. Some are just wrong -I know that, but it’s just plain ridiculous that peole will sit at home watching this brilliant programme waiting for Jezza to say something un-PC then run to the daily mail as fast as they can. If they are offended don’t watch it,simple as that and I thought that his interview with Fry was hilarious. If the Boys (Jeremy in Particular) were 100% politically correct who would watch it ,I wouldn’t. It’s just their personality and it’s precisely that , that makes this show special. Just look at the viewing figures, 7.1 Million and I am pround to be one of that number, I just wish that some people would watch it for the right reasons ie. enjoyement not because they want to complain.

A much better show than last weeks quickly edited shambles. The Lambo piece was fun, but the drag test was deeply flawed. On paper, and dynamically, an automatic McMerc SLR 722 would never beat the new Lambo SV in a drag race, unless Hamond is a truely useless driver from a standing start…so that was a major flaw. The lack of history and background to the mclaren F1 was also rubbish – why dont you let Clarkson do these great set pieces? He explains things so much better than Hammond, whose lack of real car knowledge is obvious! But the idea behind the races was great..so well done there…but I hope you end this current series with the Mclaren F1 going round the track…I know there are less than 78 in existence but ask Rowan Atkinson or Nick Mason to lend the stig one – im sure it could challenge the Gumpert. As for the 17 year old first car piece..good fun…nicely staged stunts…but nothing new…Top Gear needs to start coming up with some new ways of having the three lark around in cars…and less Hammond and more Clarkson!!

Ah but i think if you read more comments you will find that JC is selectively non-pc. He never slags off queers, especially when they are on his show, quite the reverse in fact, he positively snuggles up to them. there is also a difference between being non-pc offensive and just saying cock and penis repeatedly. that is funny once and then boring.

Jazz, comment 512 – completely see what you’re saying but isn’t this a forum for feedback to the team? It’s the only place we can all honestly give feedback, knowing that someone from the TG team will read it, collate it and feed it back?

The general concensus seems to be that this was a great show in many many ways – all of us found something hysterically funny, whether it be Stig photocopying his head, May’s rather loud stereo or the photo of WIll Young on Jeremy’s desk.

However, one thing that most people agree on was the use of inappropritate language/ the crudeness that appeared at times last night. I am not a prude – but I do know that some of the words repeated time and again on the show last night just weren’t funny. Sorry, but it made for quite uncomfortable watching at times.

I had a really weird TV watching experience last night – there were moments where I was crying with fits of uncontrollable laughter where I marvelled at the utter genius of the TG team, followed by moments of feeling really uncomfortable at the word ‘penis’ being repeated time and time, or the general crudeness of it all.

therefore, I’m using this forum to just let the TG team know that I didn’t enjoy some of the language used and the crudeness of some of it.
That doesn’t mean I don’t utterly love the programme and I will definately watch next week because Sunday evenings were made for Top Gear.

Oh and im a teenage girl and I think that that ahandbrake turn would do it for me … No make that definatly!!! Love top gear presenters to bits <3

I think you should get back to more testing and less joking around. A good joke in the middle of a kick-ass show on my favourite topic is much more effective than a thousand mediocre jokes in one episode of 90% kidding and 10% substance. It just gets old if you don’t base the show on substantial, high quality, entertaining car reviews. I like Top Gear very much but it isn’t that packed full of car geek information anymore.

It’s become so popular by it’s own brilliance, and the thing i love is that children love it as much as adults. That’s what works so well in many families – that parents and children can watch the show together.

With language and crudeness like that, they can’t. I also appreciate that not all watchers are families. I don’t envy the task Mr Wilman and team have in finding the balance of suiting all – it’s the hardest job in TV and they do a brilliant job – all I personally ask is the 9pm watershed be borne in mind for future episodes.

Laughed my head off. That show was nigh on perfect. Hilarious Top Gear panter, in the 17 year old challenge, plus jaw dropping, high speed supercar action from Richard with the LP670 and the drag race. That is the Top Gear way!!!!!

As an alternative to Jeremy’s Germanic Merc, which keeps reminding him of it’s maintenance date I’d suggest the utterly polite British car, which doesn’t display any maintenance reminders at all, neither verbally nor by showing a picture of spanners or other tools. Instead, it will simply break down one day and only when you get it to the garage, it will display something like ‘you should have serviced me 26 days ago…’. Now, how’s that for a sensible alternative?

I was watching moon walker the other day and completely forgot about the car they used in the transformation scene in the dead end Alley, when michael Jackson was trapped.

I abslolutely love Top Gear, definately one of the best tv series for the past ten years. However, you guys must be really careful with what you say! A few things were said like “until you two touched in innapropriately.” It does take the enjoyment out of watching the show sometimes. It is funny how the lads seem to alienate themselves from almost every organisation/group/ etc each episode eg, Catholic Church/Caravaners/people of Bristol/Scouts/lorry drivers. You guys will run out of people to offend and you won’t be welcome anywhere sooon. But anyway, keep up the good work.

GREATEST SHOW EVER !

WE NEED MORE DRAG RACES BETWEEN REAL SUPER/HYPER CARS. And the camera angle used in the SV vs 722 race was perfect. I loved how you could see the 722 right next to you and both cars are gunning it, with the two cars gaining on each other and then the 722 slowly taking over.

I loved this weeks and last weeks show. I probably liked this a little more than last weeks due to the return of falling over and breaking things. But one thing that I’ve missed in the new series is the news… the news always used to last about 10 minutes and managed to tell you proper car news with added wit. We only seem to hear about 2 cars a week now . But other than that, great show!! Keep up the work lads!

Fast Cars! Awesome Shots! A quite interesting challenge! ( in the good sense) the only minor flaw I found, was soun editing, those applauses in the studio, felt jumpy between scenes… 95 out of 100…

The reason for the Ferarri FXX’s removal from the power lap board should have been for several reasons, one of which being that it is NOT a road car, and of course the slick tyre issue. Well I thought it was awesome. It showed everyone just how hard it is to get a car and insurance for under £2,500 when your 17. And it answered that all important question which is faster Bugatti Veyron or McLaren F1. But I think you could have made it better by putting the SLR 722 and the F1 around the TopGear Track. P.S. Thank you for tacking the track only Ferrari FXX off the lap time board, now thats all you need to do is put the road legal Caparo T1 back on the board.

I honestly thought that this was one of the best episodes I have ever seen, as a seventeen year old who has recently bought an old polo I thought that the feature on cars for seventeen year olds was hilarious. And the sound of that lambo!

Normally an amusing tongue-in-cheek entertainment show (now be honest, it is not a pure car show is it?), this week’s F1 vs Veyron showdown & LP670 sandy antics made me go all misty eyed…Thoroughly enjoyed it lads!

I wonder why two cars were used in the Stephen Fry final timed lap. Does the editor not look at registration numbers? Rest of the show was brilliant though.

Can’t complain lads I really did enjoy the show this week. I’m just gutted that I didn’t get tickets for it, GRRRR….. The consumer advice section you did for 17yr olds buying their first car was brilliant. Had it been myself I was buying for I would have gone with James Golf or the car that Richard had because the Volvo was by far the most tackiest disgusting car I’ve ever seen, even the interior was dreary and gross (leapord skin and orange shag pile? you wouldn’t pull the birds with that Mr Clarkson.) and despite it’s powerful engine it still struggled to get up that hill, whereas the Golf just seemed to cruise up it no problem. Also loved the drag race between the Maclaren F1 and Bugatti Veyron that really was amazing as well.

i thought the show was brilliant as usual but im still not sure about the maclaren f1 and the bugatti fair enough the buggati won over a mile but over half a mile the mclaren would have won

show 2 was good but i feel that seasons 9-11 were the best :s
Im damn upset the mclaren lost! it just flew off the line but i suspect the 4 -wheel drive of the bugatti gave it better traction in the middle of the race

Great stuff, but just a pronunciation and perve note. ‘Bathurst’ is not pronounced like the English city nor the place you wash. Also we have been supercharging V8 Holdens in Aus for as long as they have been making them.

The cleverest and best bit for me was the office scene. Stig photocpying his face, teeth whitener plus dogs on Richards desk. Presume it was Will young on Clarksons desk.
The film of the challenges was predictable and formulaic. Picking on James, Jeremy “accidentally” smashing rear window and summer house mending cars with hammers. Funny the first time we saw it but needs freshening up.
Lambo Mclaron Veyron was awesome. Not as good as last week.

@133 I saw a Dauer 962 for sale in, er, another car magazine. The advert sid that most of the ‘production’ run went to the Sultan of Brunei (lucky b****r). This was one of the few not owned by him, and it was finished in a tasteful black with gold stripes, like a John Player zebra crossing.

to all our friends across the pond – the ultimate bubble choclate car SCC is nto the fastest production car in the world for a few good reasons
1 – they can’t build enough to call it a production car
2 – they have not been able to keep one going long enough to OFFICIALLY see the 256mph – I used to say my old capri did 250mph doesn’t make it true
3 – even if it did manage to achieve these things it is still nothing like the technical achievement taht the veyron is or the F1 for that matter – when will you guys learn that dumping a massive engine into a piece of tupperware with a wing and calling it the worlds fastest car doesn’t mean anything – probebly when you stop seeing independent rear suspension as ‘luxury’

one last point – the last time (as far as i know the last time) a veyron was taken to full tilt it was on a normal piece of road surface with standrd tyres setup etc by an owner with a couple of mates without a helmet race overalls etc. if you want your aero ultimate s&m to go anywhere near its top speed you need an army of guys with laptops a race driver and a support team. As with everything europeans achieve the same results with decorum and style.

“The full line-up for the Edinburgh Television Festival has been announced, with comedian, Frank Skinner, and TV’s Top Gear presenter, Jeremy Clarkson, among the well-known figures headed for the city’s Conference Centre – and assorted George Street hostelries – on the weekend of August 28-30.

Clarkson and executive producer, Andy Wilman, will be at The Guardian-sponsored festival discussing their unique deal with the BBC to exploit the rights to the show which has become a commercial success far beyond BBC2.

Skinner is part of a panel looking at the approach to taste and decency on the airwaves, entitled ‘Whose Whine Is It AnyWay?’.

Many of the themes in the recent Digital Britain report, including the role of public service news providers and the changing delivery of broadcasting to viewers, are to feature prominently in the diary.

Sky1, Fx, BBC3, E4 and Dave will duel to emerge from the short-list for the Channel of the Year, prize while Ant and Dec, and Robert Peston are among the speakers over the three-day event.”

abi dhabi bits were brilliant, stephen fry interview had me in stitches, most of the 17 year odl car bit was hilarious (the stereo at 3 am) but however, i think some of the jokes are going a bit too close to the knuckle (and by the look on his face, i think hamster might agree), however, i feel the whole “bird pulling ” aspect of part of the show was plain wrong as 1. all 3 are in there 40s, they should NOT be seen even Interacting with 17 year old girls, let alone trying to pull them, even as a spoof gesture. but 90% of it was still ace as ever, get youre act together bbc, dont go to far, or we could loose tgtv. and id hate that.

I love this new season of Top Gear! Its just awesome, and this second episode was unbelievably good. The 17 year old challenge was great and hilarious. There was two things that I didnt like though and thats the outcomes of the two races that they had between the Lambo SV vs Merc SLR722 and the Bugatti Veyron vs McLaren F1. In the Lambo SV vs the SLR the lambo should of walked the SLR off the line. The SLR would catch up a bit later on and they would probably finish together. But it doesnt look like Hammond used launch control in the lambo because then he would of gotten from 0 to 60 mph in 3.2 seconds which is a bit conservative considering many magazines tests achived that time with the normal lp640 as for the merc and his statistics it would of had a 3.4 0 to 60 because its heavier and has a bit less power although it has more tourque. That tourque is what makes it fast later on. Then there is the same problem with the Bugatti and the McLaren. It doesnt look like Hammond used launch control in the Bugatti because if he did the Veyron would just kill the F1 off the like with 2.5 to 60 vs 3.2 for the McLaren. So can anyone here clear things up about what happened in those two races???

Awesome as always, i really enjoyed watching it.
Nevertheless it did not work out so well this time. The whole show seemed to be too packed! Otherwise the News seemed to be quite short and the Race at the End should have been twice as long. I’ think that these cars would have deserved an one hour special, as well as the train race last week!

this weeks show was SO much better than last weeks, because they actually seemed to be making stuff up when they were talking rather than just basically reading from a script like the week before (sorry, that really is what it felt like to me.) Also, why did the Mclaren SLR beat the lambo, although the lambo is faster in every single way. Was the stig in the McMerc, because for a proper drag race, you should really have drivers of the SAME ability. Still, a pretty good show and i cannot wait until the sl black comes to the show.

SIARPC is WAY past its sell by date.

The “banter” is spiralling lower and lower scraping the barrel for laughs.

The track and race scenes are getting artier and artier but with less and less substance.

The presenters are so full of themselves it’s beginning to grate.

Like you did a few years ago – go away, re-think.

I’m a very big fan, but i must say it doesn’t need to be all or nothing. On the first and second episode you tested 2 cars…….. yes i know, veyron and mclaren bla bla bla bla, do not take me wrong, i love that stuff, but over 70% of the show seems to be the same challenge, i miss tests, the silly ones of course with new cars, the cool wall, etc. Here is an idea, new 7 series and S class are out or about to come out, ask Simon Cowel to find out witch goes faster around london with him pushing it…… and you 3 inside judging him. Keep up the good work

To all these people complaining about language and content inappropriate for their children: Do you not bother to monitor what your children watch, and turn off things that you consider to be inappropriate? That would be the responsible thing to do. You KNOW what to expect with Top Gear – it’s not a children’s programme, and although it is drawing a family audience these days, sometimes the content may not be suitable for youngsters. Actually, though, I think it’s more the case that it isn’t suitable for the parents – go into any playground and you’ll hear your little darlings saying far worse things than “penis” (and don’t think they don’t… I was a kid once, and so were you), and I see no problem at all with the word when it’s being used in reference to that part of a man’s anatomy – which, as I recall, it was. Being exposed to the odd rude word will not turn your kids into delinquents. Really, if you don’t think it’s suitable for your children, don’t let them watch it. And if it offends you, turn it off and watch something else. This is the way the show is, and we get this issue come up every single series.

To comment 715 I totally agree with you that the lambo was faster than the merc slr. First of all it didnt look like Hammond used launch control and it is most likely that the slr was driven by the stig which explains how it could of won the race. Therefore this makes the lambo vs slr not fair. As to comment 733 about the launch control I dont think the video of the Veyron using launch control would of been boring. First of all it would just show how much has the car technology progressed since the McLaren days and would really show the difference between these two monsters and how really fast the veyron is. Then after that race they could of tried the race without the launch control and see what difference does that make. And 733 I would like you to answer this: Why didnt Hammond use launch control with the lamborghini??? I mean those cars were really close so to see the difference they had to use launch control but he didnt which is why I was upset with the outcome. Now comment 754 asked about an american car thats faster than the veyron and I got the info on that. The car from america is called the SSC (Shelby Super Cars) Altimate Aero. It has about 1190 something horsepower and the statistics for it are 0 to 60 in 2.75 seconds, quater mile in just under 10 seconds and an official top speed record for a production road legal car of 254 or 255 mph in U.S. state Washington (thats where I live so thats why I knew this stuff.) The car is rwd so it is slower than the bugatti to 60 I’m not sure about 100 but most likely slower too. These two titans have raced already in some arabian country in the city called Dubai. I dont know if you have heard of it but anyways when these two raced the bugatti was set to launch mode unlike the top gear test and when they took off on a stretch of highway similar to the one in the top gear video the Bugatti was ahead to 60 mph by about ten feet. After that the american car SSC was catching up to the bugatti about a car lenth for every gear so by 186 mph the SSC was about five cars ahead. I hope this info helps!

When i saw the clip about the “ideal cars for 17 year olds” i did a quote for a BMW M3 as a 17 year old and i got a quote for (i’m not joking) £22,000, this was the cheapest quote. the thing was, i thought if it was expensive for me, it must be expensive for everyone else in my household. i also did and insurance quote for my mum, she had a quote of £370. it’s ridiculous!

Somewhat annoyed. Don’t get me wrong, you’re doing a brillant job in general, and if German televison was a third as good I’d have to give up my job and all social activities, but this show just didn’t rock my boat.

“Too much of a good thing…” yes, once again, that’s where I believe the problem’s lying. Too much felt too scripted, resulting in Hamster, May & Clarkson feeling too much like impersonations of themselves than the real thing(s). I’m also no fan of the overly ridiculous challenges. Last week I believed the boys were trying their damnest to win, this time the main aim seemed to be to be as outright silly as possible. Nice, but only in doses.

“Too much of a good thing…” case in point: May’s manipulated stereo – I laughed out loud the first time, but after a while it had become a bit predictable and – dare I say? – tedious.

In a nutshell: less is sometimes more. I know you can do it. But yes, the Stephen Fry bit and those shots of the Lambo in the desert were cracking.

the bit that jeza pushed the car and it crashed into a shed was classic TG, in other words quality comedy. however there are some bits that could be improved. firstly Richard test missed power slides. second, the bit that JC gets angry while talking to the girl, WHY DIDNT YOU CUT IT OUT???!. third, why not take the F1 around the track for a power lap?…

I love topgear, but this episode was a little weak. The 17 year old idea was fine, but the actual challenges and execution didn’t quite work. Where was the trip to Southend to meet with other boy racers etc… The Lambo, Bug and F1 where all good though. Just the challenges not so much. Still good just not great!

The show is getting a bit tired and formulaic. It is getting too predictable now. A refresh is indeed in order. The smuttiness is getting wearing too and is as predictable as the contrived stunts.

I still love the show and dearly want to see it improve. Thanks fellers, keep on raising the standards.

Most 17 yr olds drive Puntos, Pandas, Corsas, Novas, Polos, Micras, Fiestas, Metros, original Minis etc but the really undiscovered and cheap to insure first car is an old diesel landrover, series 2 or 3 say.

I find that with Top Gear it doesn’t really matter what the tasks or features are in the show, it’s just the stuff Clarkson and the other two say that makes it funny.

Great show, loved it when the stig was putting his head in the photocopier about 2:40 into the show when they were at the office haha.

I was actually at the recording off the show and it is incredible to see such great cars as the Mclaren F1 and Bugatti Veyron up close. Loved the show. What a legend James(Ravy Mavy) was with his cool hat.

Morning all. Just about to start filming for the new episode off Top Gear this Sunday. We are all a bit late today as James incredibly managed to get lost twice on his way here. So The Stig is about to start putting this weeks supercar around the track.(This week its a real cracker). Sorry we couldnt take the Mclaren F1 for a lap but the owner off the car just spent £100,000 on repairs for it so he didnt want us to right it off immediately. Hope you enjoy this weeks show because it is going to be a real cracker.

I am approaching my 17th birthday and i think TopGear could have done better. I know insurance is ridiculous, but you can still have exciting cars. maybe not to your usual level, but still something you can get in and feel excited.
i was hoping topgear would show the best cars you could get with insurance for under £2500, but you just showed the obvious boring cars.
Could you please publish that list you showed of the low insurance cars. i saw it in the program but i cant find it elsewhere.
still a big fan. overall good show, but needed more of your usual view on things.

I’m holding off any appointments for Sunday evenings for a while, anyway. TG is part of (my) life. Considering this bit of a heatwave, that’s actually not a good thing.
I loved Fry -always did, since Black Adder- and Hamster in the desert. I rofled over the pubescent stuff with the old cars, but I can’t help thinking that that bit could have been better, ie fresher. News was a bit too silly for me though.

Everything about this show was perfect, but I hope they do some these thing next:
- A Power Laps in some of supercars such as Maclaren F1, Ferrari F40,F50, Lamborghini Diablo, CLK GTR, Porsche gt1, Bugatti EB110S.
- A Drag Races, Veyron VS Aero, Mclaren VS Koenigsegg, Ferrari Enzo VS Carrera GT VS SLR, or put them all in an airport runway!

It was all a bit stale, a bit too predictable. Come on guys you can do better, you just know you can.

The one bit of Top gear that NEVER disappoints is the MUSIC. It is always nigh on perfect. Who puts it together? The bloke/bird is a genius. The cars may come and go, presenters may change, jokes go flat, language go base, stunts be predicatable and the stars be boring but the MUSIC!

I’m 19 and I drive a Saab, does that count? Is that sensible enough?

Personnally i feel that the stig should do 5 laps off the track in 5 supercars and time how long it takes each car to do 5 laps and that will show good consistency and give us an idea off how easy it is to keep driving these cars fast for long periods off time.the cars should be Bugatti Veyron,Pagani Zonda F,Gumpert Apollo,Ascari A10 and the Ferrari Enzo.

The SAAB may be sensible but I have never heard of a sensible 19yr old.

AMA Supercross/Motocross legend Ricky Carmichael, one of the most successful American motocross racers of all time, will feature on the hit BBC2 show Top Gear this Sunday (5th July) at 8 pm, when he will ride a Suzuki motocross bike alongside US rally star Ken Block.

“We’re delighted that Ricky Carmichael will appear on Top Gear this week,” said Suzuki GB’s George Cheeseman. “He is simply a legend in motocross and it’s extremely encouraging to know that the sport will gain some airtime on one of the most popular TV shows around.”

Carmichael retired from Supercross/Motocross racing at the end of 2007 having won 16 AMA titles. RC also won every single race in the 2002 and 2004 Motocross seasons. Carmichael has now begun a new career in stock car racing.

C’om, when has there ever been a rubbish episode of TopGear.. Its the Bee’s Knee’s.. enjoyed last sundays show. McLaren F1 vs Bug was awsome!!!!!

After last weeks episode i didnt think the boys would be able to do anything better and there was the episode on sunday which was brilliant

Last weeks was OK but it was not a classic like the caravanning or the steam train or the reliant rocket etc.

I noticed the team seemed edgy and irritable too.

I absolutely adore TG, we meet every week to watch it in our little TG-Fanclub in Berlin. But I have to say that you should think of Sabine sometimes and realize that women don’t watch your show just for Hammond. There actually are women who are interested in cars.

The show was brilliant, me and my mates loved the part with the best cars for 17 year olds, it was great, keep up the good work =D

Great how they pointed out the insurance issues for when you’re 17. The insurance companies are an ‘effing bunch of scroungers. Unfortunatly, we respectable teens get tarred with the same brush as the morons, so we cannot afford cars that actually provide protection in an accident. My sister died in a car accident last year because she could not afford to run a better car than a crappy Peugeot 106. The driving instuction sucks as well. Great show all the same guys!

At the beginning of the series, I saw the sneak peek, and got a bit upset thinking that you guys may have been hit too hard by the ‘crunch’. I thought we might see more of the ‘Fifth Gear’ approach to Car television, that being said…

Loved the show this week guys! Loved the classic cameo of The Stig photocopying his face! Loved the teenage driver VT, haven’t laughed that hard in quite some time!

The Lamborghini VT (or SV perhaps!) made me remember the best of why cars are for dreams, rather than for driving sometimes… It took me back to the days of having a Diablo SV 6.0L on my wall. Carbon Fiber and Yellow/Orange paint with the growl of a V12 engine, the most impressive sounding my television has seen in some time.

We all wanted to see the Veyron face off against the F1, so to have been provided such a glorious opportunity to see them both square off was to my own, and many others’ extreme delight.

All in all, it’s been a great week for Top Gear, one of the finest in quite some time, and it was yet another reminder why the world outside of Top Gear is too PC!

Week after week, you guys bring the goods! Keep that up!

I think that this weeks show the best ever. With the Lambo, Bugatti, F1 McMaclarn and The Merc… Also it was really funny with the water bed lilo thingy and all the crashes on the track…

I disapointed that the Ferrai FXX had to come of the board because anytime that a Car does to the it has to go down. Like when Jeremey said he was in the scaryest car in the world. That had to come down because it couldn’t go over a sleeping police man…..

I thought it was brilliant. The highlight was Jeremy crashing the volvo at 3am. Brilliant!

I can’t help but feel disappointed with Topgear over the last season or two. I think it’s become too much about the entertainment instead of the cars. It feels much more scripted and less witty.

The show would benefit from more road tests of cars relevant to the majority of the viewers. The Fiesta was a great example that a review of a mass market car does not have to be dull.

Don’t get me wrong, I still love Topgear and the guys but worry it’s trying too hard to be a comedy programme instead of a car show.

Loved it guys. Especially the way you tampered with the stereo, i laughed so hard every time Jeremy turned it on using the remote.

Top Gear is and has always been one of my fav programmes on tv, but please please get James and Richard to cut their hair…or at the very least BRUSH it!! They seem to get scruffier and more tramp-like as the series progress
Richard is a good looking guy but he just looks like someone who should be outside WHSmith selling the Big Issue at the moment!

Maybe they have been out of show too long. This season, I feel that their conversation were less “natural”

It was a great episode overall, classic cocking-about Top Gear. And loved James in the hat!

Great show as ever. What was the ‘Kraftwerk’ style music used in the ‘17-year-old’ feature…was being played when Jeremy punctured the lilo^H^H^H^H waterbed.

I loved the show, but my only comment would be, ok you raced two of the fastest supercars ever to be produced in the last 2 decades. But why does Richard Hammond drive it against the Stig? surely Stig being bred to race cars is going to know how to control a car better in a drag race than the likes of Richard Hammond, a floppy haired leprechaun more worried about his whitened teeth being corroded if he goes too fast. I think if there was a 2nd Stig, maybe a Stig who was raised on the same mountain as the Stig we know, possibly an arch enemy of Stig could do the serious ‘world first’ drag races and leave the likes of Ricardo Hamonida to look in the mirror while the big boys play.

I liked the challange, the Veyron vs F1 race and Richard´s Lambo review. What I did not like was the news. Too short and to much chit-chat about not car related stuff.
Overall a solid episode, but nothing too special.
BTW: Bring the cool wall on very soon. Always was a big fan of it. Richard and Jeremy arguing about cars and mocking the audience is always worth my while.

Damn, a lot of posts. I loved the Mclaren F1 vs. Bugatti race, the “track” you did it on was beautiful. Seriously epic, one of those things that will last forever. As for the “main challange” i thought it was funny, yes.

But you do have a slightly stereotypical view on 17 year olds. I’m sure it was a joke sort of thing, but i still found it slightly annoying.

As myself, being an 18 year old, i’ve never done a handbreak turn, i don’t drive with my stereo to the max, and i’ve done no modifications to my Volvo 460 2.0i what so ever.

But i do have a number of friends who are like that, and i think it’s damn annoying. So maybe you’re right?

Anyways, brilliant show guys. Allthough i hope there will be more cheap car challanges!

How come the spoiler went up on the Bugatti?? Why didn’t they put the car in the “top speed” mode with that key in the slot by the door. It lowers the car and doesn’t let the spoiler come up unless you’re stopping… I wonder what the race would have been like if they had done that. It wouldn’t have been as close, I’m sure. Otherwise… it was a great show and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

Top Gear is the best programme in the world!!!!! I cant say this enough times!!!!! My friend loves horses, dont get me wrong, horses are cool but i think cars are better because instead of 1 horse power you get 100’s!!!!!!!!

This week the show was horrible… The joy of the guys was looking terrible fake. The test of the Lambo was really nice, but still it was fake. When I say fake, I mean the 3 guys already drove every single car in the past and it is possible to see in their eyes that they’re not enjoying as much as they used to. They’re getting old and they’re looking tired.

The worst thing about it was that in this show I finally convinced some friends to see it, we are brazilians and we want Top Gear in a TV Channel there, but they all hate this episode… Some of them had already seen some parts and they were about to start seeing it, but now… no way…

I’m looking forward to a better episode this Sunday… I know you can make it better.

Great show. Loved the scene where the presenters where at the office looking for cars.

Having said that I can’t stand those scenes where their rubbishness is obviously set up. Like the parking-at-their-parents- house-late-at-night challenge and when Jeremy was adding coals to the coal-wagon and missed in the first show. Stop those kind of scenes please…you lot are all naturally funny so you don’t have to set those things up.

I also want to point out that James seems to be the only presenter who actually tries to do well in these challenges, for me anyway, and that is why he is my bloke in the TG Team.

But I don’t want to moan about becouse on the whole the show was ace and always is.

Hello from Greece! Keep up the good shows! Love Clarkson’s humor!

This new series so far has been pretty weak.

Things like the car into the summer house are so painfully and obviously staged and none of them, especially Richard, are good actors and so it just becomes lame, losing all the comedy value.

Please stop the staged incidents and having things deliberately go wrong all the time, it just isn’t funny. The last few series were really good on the whole, but it’s become lazy and stale.

I agree with others – it feels too scripted now; eg don’t believe that stereo was rendered unusable by the glue and even if it was JM could’ve disconnected the speakers no probs and the banter isn’t as good as it was. Also the penis/gay references – whilst not offensive to me just isn’t funny.

TG is good but it’s certainly not untouchable. If no-one criticises the show won’t improve.

And 5th gear sucks. Stick to being a consumer advice prog, not a TG wannabe.
