The end of Top Gear?

Posted by The Mole at 3:18 pm on Monday August 3, 2009

The end of Top Gear? No.Remember that episode of I’m Alan Partridge in which Norfolk’s favourite light broadcaster makes a ‘humourous intro to a song’ which accidentally suggests that the Queen is dead, something he later realises has ‘been taken a bit too literally by one or two listeners… and a newspaper’.

Something similar seems to have happened after the poignant Aston Martin film that closed the current series of Top Gear.

The Twitterers (or, if you’re David Cameron, the Twatterers) have gone nuts with speculation that Jeremy was not forecasting the end of V12 wonders like the Aston; he was prophesising the demise of Top Gear itself.

So, just to clear up once and for all, Top Gear is NOT DEAD. Unless it went in the night and has yet to be discovered by the maid…

Ha! Not really. See you in November.

PS – we’re not quite finished with series 13 here on TopGear.com. Those outtakes we’ve been promising will finally arrive this week. Be first to see them by signing up to our newsletter

As I said in the other thread, Jesus, there are some stupid people watching Top Gear. Could Jeremy have been any clearer without resorting to something akin to “The cat sat on the mat…” Sometimes you must wonder why you bother.

Please sort yourselves out for series 14 and go back to being a humorous car show, not a comedy program that features cars in ridiculous and pointless challenges. Despite a disappointing series i am still a huge fan of top gear!

Great ending I thought. That AMV12 signifies pure driving beauty. However, JC’s write-up on here when he drove it had a slight negative aura about it, which kind-of contradicted the film. Still, absolutely loved it.

I hope Top Gear never dies. All the money that MPs were claiming should be reassigned to the TG budget so we can have some more explosions and expensive women, and to buy Hammond a hair cut.

    Hi guys

Couple of thoughts for next series – I read on the web recently of an incredible car called the Handlye Special, which is a 1930s Rolls-Royce Phantom II chassis, special bodywork and a 2050hp Rolls-Royce Merlin aeroengine from a 101 Squadron Lancaster. It’s biblically quick. If any of the Top Gear production team can make it, it’s going to be at the Bluebell Railway’s Vintage Transport Weekend on August 15/16. I’d love to see it on Top Gear.

Oh, and would it be possible to get one of my favourite-ever cars, the Rover P6 3500S, on TG? Likewise, if you could persuade the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust to release from their museum at Gaydon the Rover/Alvis P6BS (short wheelbase P6 with a V8 in the middle) and the T3 (mid-engined jet-powered sports car) or even better the T4 (a P6 with a 200hp jet engine in the front – yes, it was built like that), that would be fantastic. Oh, and I’d really like to see the new Jag XJ on.

Also, is the old episode where the gorgeous Rover P5 appeared on TG available on DVD? If not, could it please be put on the web?

The V12 Vantage Ending reminds me that I love cars too much, I can’t stand it when supercars are gone. Cars are huge toys, not tools, you can do stupid stuff in it like Burnouts and drifting, nothing makes you feel as alive as powersliding out of a hairpin, hanging on to your dear life and laugh that you live through it. If people who don’t like cars or rubbish at cars banned from driving, global warming will be non existent, roads will be free up and cars can travel at much higher speed without putting your finger out the window and tell that fool to get out of my way. The whole sensation of driving is through your senses, the speed, the noise, the feedback from the steering wheel, the connection of the manual gearbox to the engine, the feeling that the car is connected to you and you can sense what’s the car is doing, how the car responding to your input…… Driving is not a simple matter of getting you there, it’s a nostalgic experience that once get into your blood, it’s there, no matter how old you’re or even if you’re a woman, driving is an event, not a job to do.

Thankyou Top Gear for reminding everyone in the world what’s driving is all about, we worship you guys as religion, god.

It’s so sad that the Series end this way.

I just want to say from an American point of view that when I heard that Top Gear was thinking about making a series for the American market, I was somewhat excited. See, a friend of mine from work introduced me to your show in 2005 and I was instantly hooked. However, I was concerned that the American production would fail to capture what makes the original (from 2002 on) so appealing. Andy if you’re reading this, it’s the combination of Jeremy, James, and Richard that makes your show so unique. Their interaction, quirks, and knowledge of each other is what makes whatever they do turn to gold. They proved this when they did Ground Force. They don’t even need the backdrop of a car show for people to love them. It just happens that their relationship is allowed to be displayed in the front of this beautiful show about cars, with its wonderful videography and direction. Even if the economy, green activists, problems in the Middle East, or whatever change the automotive landscape forever, their interaction is what’s important. That’s what people really want. So if you must can the car show, we’ll all be sad – of course since that’s the thing that we share. But please convince the guys that they are the REAL subjects of our enthusiasm and to stick together in the future.

Oh, for goodness sake! I’m afraid I have to agree with Lesia44. Surely to goodness some of you watch television with your brains as well as your eyes?

Why shouldn’t Top Gear put on something thought provoking and/or elegiac now and again?

Some of you whinge when you think it is getting too “samey”, then complain if some of the regular items appear to have been “dropped”.

I, for one, am getting tired of reading the same old “I want this, I want that” messages on this forum. I can’t see me bothering to read or write in again (and no doubt the vast majority of you will say, good riddance.)

The best TV programmes last because they evolve over time – usually they take the core viewers with them, sometimes they lose some of them on the way, but these are replaced by new viewers. Top Gear is no different to any other programme in that respect.

Yes, I know some of you think you “own” the programme, just because you have been watching it since the time of Noah’s Flood, and hope to do so until The Second Coming, but that still doesn’t give you the right to expect it to be made to your specifications alone.

And to those of you who keep moaning about the challenges being boring, why don’t you engage brain, come up with some well-thought out challenge and submit it? I’m sure it is not that easy to come up with fresh ideas after all these series: challenges dreamt up by the viewers would be most welcome, I would have thought.

If the producers listened to too much of what was said on here they wouldn’t know their backside from their elbow. About 50% say they want more challenges, 50% say less. 50% say supercars, 50% say regular cars.

It’s true isn’t it you can’t please all of the people all of the time.

Glad the show isnt ending, although I knew that wasnt what Jeremy meant, I did get a little nervous seeing it all over the ‘net though, thanks for clearing it up! This was a pretty solid season so far, overall I enjoyed it alot, still the worst TG episode is 10x better than the best Fifth Gear show! If your wondering about ideas for next season, why not bring back the classic car segments that James used to do? I loved those since it brings such contrast to the newer, bland cars that are on the track. You could start with a 240Z ;)

let’s think about this. Axing Top Gear… every petrol head in the land would revolt, and what a revolting revolt it would be. We put up with speed cameras, because we can have track days. We put up with road tax and vat on fuel. The TV Licence that makes us pay to terrorised with rubbish like Eastenders and Cash in the Celebrety attic. We do this because we know that a small portion of these ill gotten gains are going to the Top Gear department in the BBC. We know that on Sunday evening, there will be a Glimpse into the glorious world that if only we didn’t have to pay all them taxes would be ours. To hear the sound of a throbbing V8 Blender, So see Clarkson forced to drive a truck into a brick wall. To look on as Hamster learns to stop a car, and with clockwork regularity slams into the back of Cpt Slow’s vehicle of choice. These things amongst others bring joy to the masses as we watch with eger anticipation of the next wrecklessly stuipd challange they set for themselves. So see the doggid determination to succeed that can only mean one thing. Yep, Cpt Slow on an all night bender with a set of precisly laid out spanners and a bag of chips.

The government, the heads of the BBC, the Morris Marina owners club. Dispite their hatred of Three idiots, one racing driver and no comment sense. They know, they fear that taking away the hourly release of petrol head tension once a week on a sunday evening would lead to only one thing. Yes that’s right. Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammon, James May and The Stig unleashed on the world at large. Or to put it another way, armageddon!

Congrats on the Aston film, even though it made me cry. It was so beautifully done and the selection of “an ending” by Brian Eno was truly inspired. Season 13 was quite different from previous seasons and very well done in my opinion. The drama of Schumacher in episode one and ending with that heart-wrenching Aston film was a stroke of brilliance, well done!

Also looking forward to the outakes, i hope there some with James May. I think the highlights of these series was Shumacher been the Stig – nice stunt. James May and a model, the Maclaren F1 car vs the Buggati. Not forgeting Jeremy and James making a VW ad with a mans arm chopped off and a pool of blood.

I really love TG and agree that this season was somewhat different but this last episode was a little boring to say the last.
The episode featured 3 cars but we as viewers didn’t get to really see them. Hamster went bezerk with these Aussie Vauxhals burning rubber rather than describing the cars, the whole advert story was childish without much input on the Sirocco (I would love to see the interior) and then we got to see Jeremy driving Aston in a pretty scenery and it was about it.
Thank god for Jay Leno, otherwise this would’ve been THE most boring TG episode EVER!

Hopefully season 14 will be better.

Absolutely brilliant series. I have to admit “MTC” hit the nail on the head when it comes to driving, it really is about the experience along the way rather than the destination its self. Unless of course the destination is in fact a race, well then the destination is of equal value.

Keep up the sheer brilliance of it all…

Just watched the last episode. Jeremy’s correct, we are in the end game now for cars and driving. It’s been on the cards since every driver in every town or city decided it was a fine idea to occupy 100 square feet on their own on the same stretch of road every weekday at 8:30 and 17:30 to drive a mile through the centre of town to school or work and big finger to the future of motoring. They’ve killed the car. Well done everybody.

Thank’s you three for yet another great series.

I thought the final Aston Martin feature was thought-provoking and, well, sad! But then I thought of The Stig! According to him, some say that petrol is more addictive than sex, or cocaine, or err, Gordon Brown!!! That was it. I immediately went down to the garage, booted-up the Merc SL55 AMG and gave it some wellie!

God I feel better – and Jeremy, you are wrong. We”ll be G-forcing and grinning for a long time yet. Trust me!

I am extremely glad to hear that Top Gear isn’t going anywhere. I admit, the Aston Martin film at the end of the series did move me and cause me to think about if that was the end of Top Gear but after thinking about it for awhile, would Jezza really let the show’s last ever episode end like that? They would have a 2-hour extravaganza with the craziest challenges ever seen and at least go out with a bang. Maybe blowing up May’s Fiat Panda perhaps?

As someone on U Tube quite aptly put it ‘High school never ends, at least for the TG3.’ I wish the team all the best sucess for next season and will be eagerly awaiting for it to start again so I can Sky Plus each and every glorious episode.

With regards to this season, so far I’ve not been at all disappointed. There might have been a few ropey bits here and there for example the game of British Bulldog with a British army tank and an Evo. That had already been done in an previous season with a Porche 4×4 Cayenne I think. The SITRPC segement had it’s moments as well, but thankfully you’ve managed to save the best till last with Brian Johnson and of course the fabulous Mr Jay Leno who is not only a funny american but a proper petrol head as well with a list of cars as long as my arm! So my advice to you about the SITRPC segment is try to keep all the proper petrol heads and steer clear of any stupid obtuse people who only come on the show to plug thier useless CD’s, films etc,. OK? Good.

I also loved the road testing of the cars as well, the Vauxhall VXR8 Bathurst and the Maloo (my loo.) Although some people might take the mickey out of me for saying this I much prefered the Maloo out of the two simply because of the screeching sound the engine makes. If I wanted to sit and listen to screeching all day I would put on an Alanis Morrisette album (darn Canadians should apologise for introducing her to the rest of the world.) LOL…

And finally there was Jame’s and Jeremy’s attempt at making a Volxwagon advert. Ohhhh dear, what a funny debacle that was. Particularly the man with the severed arm in hospital bleeding all over place, Jeremy has a sick mind doesn’t he?

Oh well, enough of my blabber enjoy the break guys and see you in Autumn.

    Much Love

    Manc Lass xoxoxo

PS: If James May was to star in an porn film what name would he have? Captain Dingaling Dong? Lol… He can work on me plumbing any day of the week (rolls eyes) See if anyone else on this board can come up with a better one.

It was a truely fantastic episode sitting on my Sky+ and a very artist and thoughtfu film to finish the series with.. I would have been very displeased if TopGear was ending, it would have ruined my whole summer. It is the only good show on the bbc and to kill topgear from tv would be to kill tv itself. I am very glad that it is staying on for another season, hopefully a longer one. WHOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I also got the 123 comment, numerology rules, although it does nothing but still. anyway topgear better on tv till the day that i die. Also Jeremy, Hammond, and James should do a battle between the top US cars vs the Brittish cars. Say like the Corvette ZR1 vs Aston Martin Vanquish, that would be a sick comparison. Yes the aston would have the styling advantage, but i think the corvette would give it a run for its money.

Great job lads, whoever filmed that last scene my hat goes off of to you. Simple, stunning and moving. Beautiful scenery, great filming, a fabulous car, great music and what a noise from the engine. Even JC who I think is brilliant anyway, was nearly silent for 4 mins, is that a record? The vw advert, not sure you’re going to get away with that or is that the point? I sat there for a couple of mins and did ask is that the end? I must admit I was expecting a Morris Marina to bite the dust at the end but that’s not what they were after.

I’m truly humbled by that last episode, honestly. Out of any Top Gear show i have watched, Jeremy has just really touched the heart of the nation with those dying last 4 minutes in that Aston and soft words that can only be described as Epic, then last minutes had no words but had facts that could right a best selling novel. I sat with my mates…all die hard petrol heads, and never have i experienced silence like it in one room while watching.

I only now truly understand why we need super cars in our lives even if we cant buy them! And i have to admit i felt every inch of emotion Jeremy has on every bend of that road….without Aston and British sports cars we really are nothing. If i was a multi billionaire after watching that video….id give whatever it took to save such glorious history!

I was scared for a minute there. It was a great film and I think if Top Gear was going to end, it should end like that, not in a blaze of explosions and gags. The show and it’s presenters are constantly preaching about the joys of simply driving an amazing car on amazing roads, of enjoying the driving experience, thats is what the end of this series showed and it’s because of this why fans got worried it was the end, because it didnt need to show alot to say alot.

I thought this was a great series, more cool wall next time please though!

That was the saddest moment in tv history. Or the most dangerous and effective bluff in tv history. We are not sure. What we are sure, that nothing has made so many people silent at one time. If there will be a moment in time, when tv screens will shine for the last time, these are the pictures they have to show.

What a relief the original and proper Top Gear is staying….hope that means the guys and the Stig are staying too. Here in Detroit, I live and breathe the automotive industry’s downturns and extinctions on a daily basis that everyone else in the world only hears and reads of. Trust me on this, I can appreciate that “dreadful feeling” Jezza mentioned about the demise of engineering masterpieces like the Aston. Thank you guys for the journalistic and cinematic excellence you give us on every show. I know this may sound odd, but this is a show that has given me my only reason in a very long time to laugh and smile. Excellent job guys, thanks again for showing and educating this Yank these past years about what a proper “cool” car is all about, and my most sincere regards to the whole TG crew from here in the “Motor City”.

Interesting :) unfortunately I’d never experienced the feeling you guys did about that sad ending. Knew from the start of that section that this is only a tribute to super cars (very nicely done by the way, superb idea). What made me “know everything”? :) Simply – Jeremy said earlier in the show something about Stig being available, with no cars to test until November. Until November, guys :) wasn’t it obvious?

Ps. Great series, monumental ending. I hate the fact that time runs so fast normally, but this time I wish it was November already :D Best wishes from Poland, keep up the great work.

Please never leave our screen’s as Top gear is the only good thing on telly, everything els on tv is rubbish!

If you leave we will all be forced to watch more pointless morons in stupid tv reality programs, that serve no point what so ever, and are a complete waste of liecene payers money!

Spend more cash on Top gear, and get rid of the utterly pointless crap that is Big brother, and that stupid Jordan/katie price person!

Please don’t stop producing Top Gear. The quality of filming, well placed musical notes, choice of cars onscreen and entertaining challenges and comments from Jeremy, Richard, James and the Stig, provided the perfect entertainment (or factual) show to pull me out of depression a year ago and on to a happier life.

I will be very sad again if it ended suddenly like that, and will have to throw human Poo at Jeremy, Make James may’s car permernantly dusty and uncleanable by glueing on poo inside and out and Richard will have all his precious land rovers fill and covered in poo (Poo will be supplied by environmentalist, since they are so full of it).

Please keep up the great work, you will always have my support.
    Thanks for another great season.

I (and 90% of people who know anything about cars) would choose an S4 over the Bathurst any day. Need I mention the supercharger’s disgusting note which Hammond somehow adored??

TG WILL continue, but only for one more series.
Rather the programme but consigned to the history books whilst everyone enjoys it, than 6 years down the line when it becomes painfully repetitive.

Hopefully the inevitable ending of Top Gear will draw an end to the WOEFUL/PAINFUL/SINFULLY DEPRESSING FIFTH GEAR, too. How can a show about cars be SO awful, they manage to make me HATE them.

I loved the ending because it really shows the true passion for cars. I love cars, I really do. They’re an art and people who find driving a chore are daft. I love a great car and I love Top Gear. This video reminds me a bit of the CLK Black video last year. They both show the immense passion for cars.

It’s 4 o’clock in the morning, just watched the last episode of series 13 and I had the same impression of Jeza’s movie that he was actually talking about TG itself by saying “I have a feeling this is an ending”. Thank god I was wrong ! It made me even come out of bed and check it out immediately here on the website !

Anyway, what was he talking about then ? About the world going from bad to worse and this type of car soon becoming part of the history ? Hopefully he was just talking about the end of this series.

Top Gear rules ! Have watched and rewatched all series a million times ! It’s practically my english teacher this show :D

Keep it up ! Bring on series 14 ! Can’t wait for novembre !

So this series was still extremely good. But something to think about for the next series.

    Ferrari California test
    Corvette ZR1
    Audi R8 vs. Nissan GT-R
Proper test of the Aston Martin V12 Vantage
best 1000 pound car for your midlife crisis. (Any cheap car challenge is good)
Audi A8 vs. BMW 7-series vs. Merc S-class vs. Lexus LS

there’s a road called the dragon in America which starts in Tennessee which is a very good road.

A brilliant series! People who did’nt enjoy that take life too seriously. I love top gear for the fact that its life on the edge crazy stunts and free speech saying what you want and being none-PC and not caring about reprisal! Its the banter that makes it, a reflection of real life when i sit down to watch top gear its like watching a local car meet but then watching jez james and hamster doing crazy stuff that people at local car meets can only dream about! I read about someone saying please make top gear a humorous car show not a comedy show with cars. I think it kind of is, Ok some of it is clearly written but the majority is a true life reflection of a car adventure being filmed while having a laugh at the same time. The comedy factor makes top gear appeal to a wider demographic, many people i know did’nt watch it when it was just car reviews and some even are’nt into cars! I was also thinking with people saying make more episodes, why not make about 15 episodes over the winter including the end of year awards then film things from the beginning of the year. That way we get loads of top ger episodes you have more material to show us and we have the summer car show and race meet season to fill the top gear void!

    Ideas for a new challenge?

How about the guys taking part in the Round Britain Reliability Run in 2010?

2000 miles round Britain in 48 hours.

The event’s been running every second year since 1966.

Only thing you need is an old Triumph.

Funnily enough, James May has an old Triumph saloon and Richard Hammond used to drive a Triumph Spitfire.

Event is run by Club Triumph.

Did it last time in 2008.

Lots of fun but a bit cream crackered by the end of it.

The thing about Top Gear is this: It’s about three best mates arguing, cocking about, laughing, shouting and swearing at each other, but all have the same passion. Cars. That’s the surface; if you dig deeper into the mindset of the program it is actually quite poignant. There are numerous sub-contextualized messages, but the one that sticks out the most is freedom.
Whether it is about freedom of speech, freedom to express ones own opinions without the fear of being lambasted, freedom to express opinions about love, life, risk taking and being Top Gear – speed.
Top Gear represents the human spirit. No government or quango movement can suppress that. The minute we deny these emotions, it’s the day we shall stop being human. This is the reason why Top Gear is so massive because it is the human spirit tied up in program about cars. After all, cars are the closest thing we humans can make to a living thing.

Thank you BBC, Wilman, JC, Hammond and May and of course Aston Martin for starting my passion for cars and engineering.

    Roll on next series!

Reading most of the above makes me realise I am not a Top Gear fan (if by fan you mean “fanatic”) or addict … thank the gods! Get a life, folks – there is something seriously wrong if you believe you can’t keep going until November.

Yes, I enjoy the programme immensely. No, I shan’t pine away until November comes around. I shall quietly get on with my life and find other, interesting, worthwhile things to do with my time.

Glad to see that there are one or two other people posting on this Forum who actually think about what they are typing, and are not panicked by the rumour mongers, the internet tittle-tattlers and the brain dead.

Now I really must practice what I preached earlier in this thread, and stop wasting my time on these Forums.

TG will be around for awhile, but methinks the current trio will be no more after a few series. I’m guessing May (sadly the one who knows the MOST about cars….) will probably bail first, followed by Clarkson — or perhaps the two will leave at the same time. Hammond — who I like as a personality, despite what I’m about to say — will do it forever if he can; my impression is that he would go to the opening of a phone box if there was a camera and a cheque (sorry Richard…)

Keep calm and carry on! The wheels might fall off occasionally but like the Toyota pick up Top Gear will never die.

TG and Mock the Week – the only shows worth watching.

Any programme which features Jezza, Hamster and Captain Slow in it would be worth watching. Wouldn’t even have to be about cars. The three of them together are comedy gold.

I think the boys should enter next year’s Euro Song Contest with “The Top Gear Song”, full of nice politically incorrect lyrics about our euro cousins (cheese eating surrender monkeys springs to mind). Jezza on drums, James on keyboards and Hamster on bass guitar. But can The Stig sing?

Talking of tunes, the “Jeremy Clarkson Beatbox” by Swede Mason is amusingly daft. Watch it on FaceSpace if you have 3 minutes to spare and need cheering up if you stupidly thought TG was finished.

Looking forward to series 14 but also James May’s new programme “Top Toys”.

I have my own particular Top Toy in mind – lets just say you probably can’t buy this one in Hamleys but James you are welcome to come round to play anytime! (Yes I am a girl just in case anyone was wondering).

Bye bye everyone and see you in November. XXX

No doubt that end scene will be made into a real Advert by some car manufacture.. Well done TopGear producers and video editors for making something very special and emotional.

I am I big fan of TG – watching all the episodes, but what happened to that last one?!? It’s turned into a slightly sleezy chat show instead of the greatest car show on earth! I know you had a limited budget this series but did you completely run out of money straight after Hammond had finished with the Aussie cars? There wasn’t any car stuff worth watching after that! Top Gear has become the BBC’s biggest success story, don’t change the formula, we aren’t all gagging for innuendo, just good car features and the usual explosions.

Series 13 has been one of the best series ever. What happened to some of the features in the trailer on the first episode of series 13 such as the airport vehicle racing and the audi R8 v10 being driven? I may be TG’s greatest fan; I have seen every show ‘live’ on BBC and every repeated show on ‘Dave’ about 10 times too. This last series was a bit disappointing overall and the final show a complete mess. The VW advert ’sketch’ was a tedious waste of airtime. Please stop trying to be funny and silly, and just do the car bits as you did three or four series ago, along with the opinions and the challenges, although they have become too contrived lately – the humour will look after itself.

    If you discontinue TG:
    1. Who would fight for petrol heads like me?
    2. Who would appreciate JMay’s shirt if the gay community can’t see him regularly.

While I didn’t suppose that Top Gear was ending permanently, I was pretty unhappy with the final Aston segment. Poignant, yes; evocative, yes; but not the high, positive note I would have liked the show to end on. No farewell from the others, no ‘See you in November’ upbeat finale. It was rather grim, really.

The Aston segment, considering nothing was of any substance was said during it, was overly long and ended up depressing me for a few hours afterward. It seemed so out of character for Clarkson to be so melancholy. If he’s not careful he could end up being as melancholy and introspective as me!

Wouldn’t surprise me if the BBC did ditch it, probably by drumming up outrage regarding Jeremy’s Berlin to Warsaw comment. It’s about the only thing left on the BBC that doesn’t adhere to a strict left-wing agenda so Im sure they’d jump at the chance to get rid, despite the money it must make them. More reason to demand extra from the taxpayer probably.

No, not the end. If you were paying attention at the back you would have heard Jeremy clearly say The Stig would be returning in November. Unless of course he meant he would be returning to appear on Strictly Come Prancing. Hmmm.

All this hoo-haa proves how much we all still love the show and hopefully act as encouragement to the TG Team. Perhaps the BBC will take heed and not cut the show’s budget any further.

The wheels might fall off occasionally, but like the Toyota pick up truck, Top Gear ain’t dead yet! I suppose, sadly, they will have to retire off the current presenters at some point to prevent the show from turning into Last of the Summer Wine (bath chair racing, anyone?)

Admittedly I’d be happy to watch any programme involving Jeremy, James and Richard, it wouldn’t even have to have cars in it! The 3 of them together are extremely funny and make TG what it is today – pure telly gold!

Not TV gold was that bloody awful UK Song for Europe competition programme earlier this year. My ears are still bleeding. The Euro Song Contest is daft but taken oh so seriously by the rest of Euroland. I think Top Gear should enter next year with a car song. The potential for much cocking about would be enormous. The song could be made up of jolly, politically incorrect lyrics to cheer along our European cousins. The line “cheese eating surrender monkeys” and words such as “Citroen Visiodrive” could be included. Just think – Jezza on drums, Captain Slow on keyboards and Hamster on guitar. Fabulous! But The Stig’s mute so who on earth would sing???

I don’t care if you think the above idea is poo because it is not centred around cars. I loved Top Ground Gear Force and that didn’t have cars.

Cars are exciting and fun but there is more to life you know. Fish finger sandwiches for example.

No matter. I will look forward to series 14, also James May’s new series, Toy Stories. Sounds fun. He is welcome to come round to my house and play with my toys any time he likes.

    Bye Bye!

Thank God Top Gear isn’t over forever. For next season I really would love to see a road test on the new VW GTI Mk6, as well as the new Jag XKR and the new XJ. What would be really funny would be NASCAR’s Jeff Gordon in the Reasonably Priced Car, you know, just to see if he can actually turn right.

If we petrol-heads sont do something about it, we are gonna become ethanol-head or electric-head and thats as stupid and dull as it sounds.. PEOPLE DO SOMETHING ANY LITTLE THING YOU CAN TO HELP. DOESN’T MATTER HOW SMALL OR HOW BIG, LETS SAVE SUPERCARS((thats does not mean buy a 1.6 diesel skoda))(wierdly i find the new skoda pretty)

Not the best series. Too many JC being an arse(opinionated fine, just too much arse!), May being typecast as anal egghead, and Hamster having his midlife crisis.

Some guests have been very good, and most of them better than the features.

Lets not get too close to Fifth Gear – which has no personality, but can we see a bit more car stuff and a bit less of “I am a celebrity, and want to stay here!” approach?

Overall rating, cock in parts, salvaged by some guests and camera work!

I guess what got my goat about the whole Top Gear ending thing is that at the start of the Series, Mr. Clarkson clearly said it was only 7 series long. At the start of the 7th episode, Jeremy clearly stated that it was the final show of the season, and about 14 minutes and 50 seconds, specifically stated the next season started in November. In order to conclude that Top Gear UK was over, somebody would have to ONLY watch the last couple of videos and completely skip the news segment.

Who cares who the Stig is ?
It’s obviously not Schumi, the BBC couldn’t afford him full time…. The whole point about the Stig is that he is interchangeable, any decent race driver could be slotted into the position without any loss of continuity.
TG will continue as long as it’s popular… so it will last as long as petrolheads have juice in their tanks !

Jeremy, that Aston bit at the finale was masterful. Imagine how much better it would have been on my large screen and surround sound system if it had been in HD and 5.1! Please, twist the arm of Danielle Nagler, head of the BBC HD channel, and make sure that when you’re all back on our screens in Nov you’re not still stuck in the medium of standard definition digital TV where the picture is actually worse than it was in analogue days of the last century. Make HD and 5.1 happen!

I was away when the last episode was first transmitted. So I watched it on some website. That Aston Martin ending was very moving, i didn’t know what Jeremy meant. But after a look here I understood.

I have watched Top Gear since series 6 (2005) and from series 1-9 the three presenters were serious and just reviewed cars. Since series 10-11 they started cocking about. I compared older episodes with newer episodes and this is evident.

But I love Top Gear. I never tire of it. Thankfully Jeremy said that the show will continue. Series 14 begins in November, that will be good.

Far, far away ….. in one of European cities. For example in Paris.
Black, beautiful new Volkswagen Scirocco TDI race Mysterious Black Mercedes.
The driver of Sirocco all the time try to shot the pictur of Mercedes.
Very quick montage , loud music, squeak of tyre
…… Sirocco and Mercedes driving in to dark tunnel …..
    Huge bang !@#$%^&*()_
Next Frame …. camera showing “Lady D” inside the massacred car (human body – blood is ever )
Paparazzi (Sirocco Driver – happy and grin) very quickly drive off from accident place.
    Black frame and text…
“Volkswagen Scirocco TDI. One million dollars picture in one tank.”

    Very funny ….. NO

With regard to RoverP6Bs post on Aug 3 Yes the Handlye Special does exist and can be seen at the Wings and Wheels event on Sunday August 30th at Dunsfold Airfield oddly enough so if anyone including the TG presenters want to check out this engineering masterpiece i suggest you make your way down there. I may be wrong but i believe the engine to be the RR Meteor as opposed to the Merlin which is essentially the same engine except for a couple of things like the Supercharger etc. Power isn’t 2050hp but a more respectable 750 with approx 1500 f/lbs of torque. I hope this answers a few questions to see many of you at Dunsfold to see this beast.

Top Gear rocks! They should do a special where they come to New Zealand, I reckon some of our mountain roads would qualify for the best driving road in the world, or a really kiwiana challenge from Cape Reinga to Bluff.

I find it most amusing that Richard Hammond finally found a way to get past his height issue with the elevator, and even more amusing that JC hit the kill switch, stranding him up there. Those guys just don’t stop arguing about the cool wall, and that’s why I want to see them in more series.

I have to agree with Jeremy, the world is changing. Tesla, Fisker Karma, others, are good attempts to showcase the potential of the future for us, petrolheads. But still, I am enjoying to have my V-10, while it is still possible.
