James May’s not on Twitter, but if he was, it would doubtless be something like this interview he just did via his publisher Hodder Books.
@TopGearBabe asked James if there are any achievable dreams left, to which he replied: “Oh god, yes. I’d like to go to the Moon and I’d like to be able to make a risotto.”
And @beckstar2 wanted to know what book James would take to a desert island, and James – in typical style – said that it would have to be: “The Haynes Manual for the Honda CB 754.”
Which, to us, seems like a very frustrating choice indeed.
So anyway, mosey on over to Hodder’s Twitter page to see what else James had to say, and follow us on Twitter too.
All this has really done though is to increase our appetite for James to start his own Twitter page – what do you think?
And don’t forget the second episode of James May’s Toy Stories is on BBC Two at 8pm tonight, in which he attempts to build a Plasticine garden and enter it in the Chelsea Flower Show.

Can’t wait for the next episode of James may’s Toy Stories.
I’m curious about James finding his way to Twitter. I remember one TG episode where he was talking about “FaceTube” and “YouBook”, hilarious!
No, I guess James sticks to the good old carrier pigeon instead
Can’t you get the fakes removed? There’s one who’s really trying to pretend to be Richard, but he fails so badly. Quite fun winding the stupid prat up.
I wouldn’t mind carrying James’ post around
It would be great if James had his own Twitter page:D:D (That’s a hint, James)
On the one hand I’d say YES, James, start tweeting! ..but that would be very un-James-like, wouldn’t it?
Besides, I think he’d forget about it after a while. I did, until some of my friends added me and it actually became interesting..
So yeah, James, get one, but don’t forget about it.
So who is @realjamesmay on twitter, then????
He’d have to stay in character. So a poster, heading ‘Daily May’, in the window of your local shopkeeper would be more appropiate. Advertisements promoting Granny’s Soap, His Master’s Voice and Amicar could be in it. And slogans about giving Jerry what for. No, wait, he drives a Porsche.
i think Twitter is over rated and i dont think he should make one, but thats my opinion
There’s a lot to be said about not utting everything you are and everything you think on the web. privacy for one thing. mystique for another.
Think of him as being like that Alfa (the Breva?) He doesn’t tweet, and he gets lost some times. Still, would you say no?
Dang. Putting. I meant putting. Wretched fingers. Never work…..
Is Richard on twitter? If not somone is pretending to be him.
Honestly, I think Twitter is a bad thing to join, because everyone pretends to be someone their not and get fans all worked up. BAN TWITTER FAKES!!!
That was fantastic ! those judges didnt get the idea ! but james that was great !
JEREMY, JAMES AND RICHARD DO NOT HAVE TWITTER!!!! There are about 5 Richard’s on there, although i haven’t bothered connecting with them all. These idiots try so hard to be them, but they’re not! If they do have a proper twitter (which i doubt) then please, topgear.com, confirm them for us. Who knows what silly people might pass their details onto them.
I can not explain how wonderful I find James May’s ’solo’ work. Toy Stories.. has made me tearful so many times so far, the projects move me so much. James you are amazing.
And every individual who’s helped with these projects, you should be so proud, your work is fantastic!
I definitely think that James should have Twitter, i would be the first to follow him if he did. I find him very funny with excellent wit. By the way his new series Toy Stories would be far superior to any other program on at the same time (and probably the entire week) if it was not presented by James but with it being presented by him it far excels superior.
If it’s okay by Steven Fry then it should be okay by J.May – he’s sure to get a lot of followers.
Loving the Toy Stories series at the moment, really excellent stuff and the Airfix Spitfire was a stroke of genius. Great stuff chaps!
Chris.
(My car enthusiast website is http://www.theignitionpoi nt.co.uk – if you love car’s you’ll love this site)
James You should get back on twitter LOL (aka Sandy011)
Hate to tell you Savvy but you’re wrong on one of those and James was but isn’t now and Jeremy was but forgot about it
James on Twitter? I’d love it, but he’s got a pretty full dance card as it is, not to mention the 140 character limitation might prove a bit vexing. ;-D
BTW, I’m loving the new Toy Stories – the Plasticine episode especially. Brought back fond memories of not only making stuff myself, but of adventures in babysitting — namely extracting lumps out of hair (sometimes with scissors) or fishing it out of the nostrils and ears of my young charges.
Ahh, good times.
I agree with 15, the Toy Story series is just brilliant.
Am I the only person in the whole wide world who just doesn’t give a monkeys about twitter, Facebook, et al?
From what I can gather, people put far too much about themselves onto these sites; in many cases, information they would never dream of imparting to a complete stranger, face-to-face.
Give me a pen and paper any day; although letter writing is a bit fraught at the moment, given the days of (in)action promised by our dear boys and girls in the hi-viz tops and navy blue shorts.
Have loved Toy Stories so far. Amazing to see the pleasure and sense of pride some of the children have eventually derived from taking part. Whoever coined the phrase “broken Britain” should take a butcher’s at these programmes!
Kernow you took the words right out of my mouth, only with more eloquence….
Well one of the pretend Richards then, mentions his (richard’s)family in his tweets.
I agree with you Kernow.I only went on Facebook to find an old school mate and now they won’t let me off it – I tried to close the account but they just kept asking me questions about why I wanted to leave and if I was sure.My profile wasn’t deleted. I find that quite disturbing. I’d much rather just get to know people naturally face to face instead of over the ‘net. They do things where you can send things to ‘20 friends you really care about’, Yet I don’t even know these people. I noticed how people send in a large amount of their family photos too, which seems too intrusive in my opinion.
There’s a reason it’s called TWITter…
Toys Story is brilliant – a great relief after recent weeks of I’ve got no talent but want to be famous type crap.
More BBC, more!
James May your plasticine garden was really beautiful.
Re gingerkitten (No. 25) – Your sorry tale is as good a reason as any for me not to dabble. If someone wants to close their account, obstacles and deterrents should not be put in their way. Despite rumours to the contrary we are living in a democracy and our choices should not be vetoed.
And surely there can be no comparison between internet “friends” and flesh-and-blood friends who you know you can rely on to rally round when adverse circumstances cause life to go pear shaped.
Re Lesia44: – Why didn’t I spot that!!!
Nothing whatsoever to do with the current thread, but has anyone else in the UK noticed that the time stated for their “posts” is given in BST rather than GMT? In the immortal words of Tennyson “some one has blundered”. (Well, okay, it should be “had”, but that wouldn’t look right.)
Yeah, Top Gear has 3 separate Facebook pages…way too crowded for me! It would be easier just to call or write anymore!
what is the point doing a fake garden no efenece, it looks good
hello peps
hey call me you b************************ **********************
so cool tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet tweet
If anyones passing the newstand on the Palace road could they pick up my reserved publication, ahmed knows!. Just chuck it at one of the guards as you pass – thanks!
Hey James…BBCAmerica finally showed “James May On The Moon” the other night! It was too cool….especially the U2 Spy plane bit…Awesome!
Just saw James May on the Moon, and it was stellar. I’d forgotten how much fun the moon shots were. James, there is one point though on which I take issue: you are not too old my friend, not by a long shot. Former Senator and astronaut, John Glenn went up in the Space Shuttle in 1998 at the tender age of 77. He was the first American astronaut to orbit our little orb back in 1962 in Frienship 7, part of the Mercury program. You may find yourself in space yet.
This really was amazing. Thank you. And thanks to the folks who did the soundtrack. Music was as much a part of the moon shots as the rockets themselves. Truly!
I’ve been loving James’ new show, his projects just keep getting better and better
