You’ve heard TG telly boss Andy Wilman say the best stars in our reasonably priced car are the proper petrolheads and this week’s guest is no exception.
Radio 2′s Breakfast Show DJ-elect Chris Evans stormed our soaking track today, chasing Eric Bana’s fastest wet time on our leaderboard. Spins? Yep. Quick time? Wait and see.
Back in the studio, Jeremy totalled up your best car manufacturer votes to reveal an unexpected winner.
James, meanwhile, got Richard to help him find a novel solution for getting caravans to campsites without clogging up the roads – and also gave our behind the scenes camera some genuine insight into, er, stripy knitted jumpers.
Log on after the show for that and more exclusive access-all-areas films – and check TopGear.com tomorrow for spoiler-free galleries from today’s rehearsals and live recording.

Thanks Undercapricorn
– personally I have a soft spot for Toyotas… never had one that steered me wrong. Mums 68 Corolla finally gave up the ghost in 89 (and that was just because the floor fell out – it still ran, but driving it was like an Ariel Atom – you could see the road and the wheels!!!!
The Hot Air incident should be interesting to see how then present it
Cause that wasn’t staged… that was nature

also, on a related note, i would much rather watch the newer seasons of top gear. just because it’s a car show doesn’t mean it can’t be funny and a bit pantomime. i would rather watch the boys take a caravanning trip than listen to someone read off the specs for a civic. supercars are fun, they’re meant to be a bit theatrical.

Mr Monks comments I think are fascinating and would work well within the context of “Get a Life”

I will quite happily put my hands up and admit the only reason I started watching Top Gear, age 12/13 ish, is that I had a schoolgirl crush on Richard Hammond. TG is the only reason I got into cars in the first place, it’s a great springboard.
Personally, I think the best car of all time is my Ford Ka (the old one) but that’s only because a) it’s my first car and b) it’s so damn cute.
Oh, and The_Monk, formulas for shows never work, simply because afterwards everybody complains they’re getting too formulaic. And the Cool Wall never works more than about twice a series.

Does TG mean number of great cars as in units, or models?
I’d say Ford would probably win on models simply due to the size of the company, even if their ratio of great : crap is far worse than Lotus or Jaguar for example.
If it were judged on units of a single great car I’d go with Mazda for the MX5; 600,000 and counting.
The Mini and Beetle may have been ‘great’ in an iconic way, but actually they were pretty crappy alongside their competitors for 9/10 of their lifespan (or the Beetle’s case – all of it’s lifespan!)
Good question though, nice to see TG taking an interest in cars again, although the show in my opinion is now a shadow of its former self.
I like TG being funny, even when it’s not really about cars, but currently it’s neither funny nor about cars.
TG started out being just about cars, then it managed to be both about cars and being funny (what a glorious show it was then!), a few seasons back TG ditched the cars and was just about being funny, but from last season to now it been neither. What’s going on?

I was thinking Lancia because they made several great cars but mainly due to their great rallying success, which no other car manufacturer has matched.

Has to be honda all the way best build quality best handling, good value, and best of all the greatest reliability on the roads today.

I can’t believe only 9 of us in the whole UK got the manufacturer right (Lancia) well 12 if you include JC, RH and JM. Now Jeremy, please go and get the Lancia ECV 2 out of the Lancia Museum and give it to Stig to play with

Hey Boy’s -
Well i agree that the muppet you choose this way of monitoring traffic is completly out of his tree house!
I have been speeding through these for over a year with no endorsements! the trick is to pass the inside camara at say 80ish then make sure you pass the next camara in the outside lane and because they are fixed they can’t follow your average speed!! fantastic boys so back onto the M1 and stuff the system – dont forget i’ve beeen doing this for over a year with no tickets and i do over 1000 miles a week!! have fun boys – big kiss for James xx
