You’ve heard TG telly boss Andy Wilman say the best stars in our reasonably priced car are the proper petrolheads and this week’s guest is no exception.
Radio 2′s Breakfast Show DJ-elect Chris Evans stormed our soaking track today, chasing Eric Bana’s fastest wet time on our leaderboard. Spins? Yep. Quick time? Wait and see.
Back in the studio, Jeremy totalled up your best car manufacturer votes to reveal an unexpected winner.
James, meanwhile, got Richard to help him find a novel solution for getting caravans to campsites without clogging up the roads – and also gave our behind the scenes camera some genuine insight into, er, stripy knitted jumpers.
Log on after the show for that and more exclusive access-all-areas films – and check TopGear.com tomorrow for spoiler-free galleries from today’s rehearsals and live recording.

@ Sir Stig (no. 26)
Actually I think it’s all the endless supercar lap times that are adenoidal- Oooh, 0.03 seconds faster paddleshift than the last version TG tested, Wow, an Audi with 2 more cylinders than last time…
I’d much rather see a funny and intelligent review of a ‘fiat box’ than another crappy supercar test.
I do love supercars by the way, just it’s getting pretty boring watching someone else do sideways laps on an airfield show after show.
Maybe you’ve forgotten that when TG were on form a few seasons ago their tests of regular cars were never dull!
Watch some season 3 – 9 re-runs, I bet you won’t get bored!

Isn’t it ironic that the name of the person who posted #24 is ‘Delusional’. Yes, very ironic indeed…
P.S. who would rather see a fiat punto than a Lamborghini Megasaurus-rex anyhow?

Oh bloody hell, stop complaining all of you. Top Gear is watched by so many millions of viewers each week BECAUSE of the way it is put together. 5th Gear was the programme to turn to if you wanted anal, ‘proper car’ advice and it just shows how successful Top Gear would have been if it had followed in the same vain. 5th Gear was cancelled. You will find that most television aimed at niche audiences start in that way and then evolve to the mainstream audience. You can’t have a go at TG for becoming more popular. Whether it’s staged or not, who cares? Just see it for what it is, an ENTERTAINMENT programme. If you don’t like it, simply don’t watch, switch the television over or just read a book. Because believe me…TG’s popularity won’t suffer from the loss of a few cynics.

I’m sorry but I just have to say in response to;
“and also gave our behind the scenes camera some genuine insight into, er, stripy knitted jumpers.” and so we see James is auditioning for his own movie: “James and his Amazing Technicolour Dream Jummy” ;D.
Anyway roll on Sunday and yawn @ the hard to please car bores.

Oh and Sean James’ hair is fine as long as it’s not overly attacked by hairspray which is why it can look in need of a wash. People watch the programme for the contents and entertainment of it and not so much how the presenters look. They’re not presenting as car salesmen in offices.

I was going to vote for Skoda all along, because they have made a lot of funny, trying-hard rubbish cars that people still drive after 25 30 years and live with them. But thats not really the true definition of a great car I guess
So I went for Jag… properly great cars.

What is comparable to a Skoda? No, not kidding – as someone outside the EU, this isn’t a car that is widely known as far as I am aware.
Depending on what they are classifying as GREAT, I would like to think that Toyota has a chance. Let’s face it, they’ve basically said on the show they don’t test them that often because they are pretty well bomb-proof. People know that if they want a solid car that will see them into the next millenia that Toyota’s are a good option.
If good means specky and out there, well then there are many high end manufacturers that fit the bill. It will be interesting to see what the final result is…
I suppose the reason good middle of the road cars don’t get reviewed much is a bit like “middle child syndrome” everyone notices the oldest kid, cause they are usually the rebellious trouble maker… everyone remembers the baby because it’s just so cute… jnr plodding along in the centre is often overlooked because unless something catastrophic happens people are too busy trying to split attention between the other two.

Why the heck are people saying daft things like “oh it isn’t Skoda is it?” They clearly don’t know A THING about cars. Skodas are indeed, brilliant cars. Ford might’ve been a bit too obvious. But we’ll wait and see. Looking forward to this episode, I must say…
