The first of our Christmas double bill – what did you think?

So there you have it. Top Gear is finally back on the nation’s screens: three undeniably great cars, two new haircuts, one Oscar-winning film director and a minor conflagration. Hopeless gifts were exchanged, Stigs were mown down in hails of semi-automatic gunfire, fuses were blown – a nice gentle introduction to the festive season ahead…

We hope you enjoyed the show. And, for the first time in ages, it’s the usual drill: let us know what you thought in that handy space below. If you missed it it will be repeated on BBC2 at 6.55pm on Christmas Day, or you can watch it now on iPlayer.

Meanwhile, don’t forget the second of our Christmas double bill is on this Sunday: Boxing Day on BBC2 at 8pm.

As Top Gear’s script editor Richard Porter put it in his blog post earlier this week: “You might have seen the trailer for the full majesty of our Middle East special. Trust me when I say that there is much, much more to come in the 75-minute show itself including Jeremy walking on water, Richard experiencing some severe problems with his bottom, and James making a Bible story out of a BMW automatic gearbox.”

To whet your appetite, cast your eyes below for a glimpse of what you can expect on Boxing Day and next year’s new series proper. We’ll also have a few more treats for you in the run-up to Christmas on TopGear.com, so keep an eye out. In the meantime, enjoy the video:

This show has the ability of surprising me everytime I watch a neew episode. This HAS to be something special! Congratulations and thank you for creating this amazing car show. Here in Portugal we’ve got fantastic roads, all twirly, but crazy traffic, so WATCH OUT! It would be a cool place to film an episode, so think about it!
My suggestion of three good cars to test here in Portugal would have to be a race from South to North, using only secondary roads, all the way from Serra do Caldeirão in Algarve, to the Alentejo Coast which has breathtaking views, to the twisty roads in the region of Tomar (don’t forget the Castelo de Bode Dam!), then driving to Guarda and the Serra da Estrela Mountains. There you will also be amazed by the scenery and the roads! Ending your trip deep north in the Parque Nacional da Peneda-Gerês! It’s our only National Park, and OH YEAH! It rocks!!! Great food, great roads, thermal treatments for all those hours of driving! Think about it, sorry for writing a autobiography-sized post, and keep up the excelent work.

Cheers
Duarte

Enjoyed aspects of the USA special but slightly horrified by the “drive-by shooting” segment. Some great cars and entertaining banter but the chaps need to learn where to draw the line.

Boxing day special was just embarrassing to watch. Eventually I grew tired of this cringeworthy excuse for entertainment and turned over to watch the remake of “Upstairs Downstairs” on BBC1! Haven’t seen the last 15 minutes of this TG special and hope not to.

Hopefully there will be some fresh ideas in the new series and not the same tired gags rehashed again. And I will be praying that there will be nothing as dire as the “motorhome” challenge…

I would give this episode a 3/5. Mostly because of a couple annoying parts. One, I’m sure they could have gotten permission to go faster than 35 on the Blue Ridge Parkway. They apparently didn’t do that so Jeremy could make some snarky comment. Two, you buy a bigger drink at McDonald’s when you go through the drive thru. Three, Jeremy should have gotten a bitch slap for pointing the handgun at his head during the training session. Other than that, and the typical anti-american comments (which are getting old) I enjoyed the episode.

“you buy a bigger drink at McDonald’s when you go through the drive thru”

Why?
To spill even more over your lap at the next bump?

I live in Wilkesboro NC and i just want to say that not all of us are prone to dancing to copperhead road. I also know they threw Jezza, James, and Hamster a barbaque and people there did not even know who they were.

Having bought,& enjoyed reading Ben Collins` book,I admire the man even more. I think much of Bens own personality has been instilled in his Stig persona, making him the enigma he is. Ben is a very talented man who just lives for pushing himself and whatever he is driving to the limit. I think he will be very difficult to find somebody prepared to work as hard & stay annonamous. Why bother? nobody cares that superman is Clarke Kent !

“I also know they threw Jezza, James, and Hamster a barbecue and people there did not even know who they were”

Obviously you’re from the western half of the state. The correct way of saying that is “They cooked a hog”…oh wait, you only use shoulders in the west. Just kidding with you.

That’s just how we treat visitors in North Carolina. “Well, y’all are a long way from the house! Why doncha come ’round the house a grab yaself a seat at the supper table.”

I’m having flash backs to my grandparents now.

I really hoped the Chaps were treated well. I’m hoping that they come back and visit the eastern half of the state some time in the future…I’ll refrain from holding my breath.

I absolutley love top gear, and thoroughly enjoyed the xmas episodes. Looking forward to the new episodes starting on sunday.

Its about time Dave picked up newer top gear programmes, I could narrate the present progs verbatim. So come on Dave or bbc 2. Top Gear warrants repeats

Absolutely enjoyed this episode. Love it when you guys come to my country! Too bad about the Parkway. I live in North Carolina, but I confess that I never knew the speed of the parkway. You should have stop in Charlotte, its got great roads, their not the big curvy ones your looking for but still great. You’ve been to multiple parts of the USA already but I wondered would y’all consider a challenge of crossing the country (Atlantic to Pacific). I heard it only takes three days.

We love all the shows, especially the Middle East Special! The daring escapades of our three favorite “Wise Men” ( Larry, Curly, and Moe?) have become dangerous to the point of frightening, however. We had to remind ourselves while watching, glued to our seats, that you all did survive to go on and make more shows! Keep up the great destru….I mean, work!
