It’s fragile heads all round in the Top Gear office this morning – last night saw our magazine’s glittering awards ceremony, and we’re still recovering from Christian von Koenigsegg’s startling revelation that the main inspiration for his awesome Agera was a 25-year-old Norwegian cartoon about fishermen.

More on that later, but here’s something to blow away the cobwebs: a look forward to Sunday’s show.

For episode two in the series, Jeremy, Richard and James look to heap further sporting humiliation on Australia by accepting a challenge from our colleagues at Top Gear Down Under. It’s a clash given added spice by today’s baffling headlines that apparently “Australia is in love with Jeremy Clarkson”.

Over to Aussie presenter Ewen Page, batting for the opposition:

“OK, predicting a collective TV orgasm before your audience has settled on the lounge is always risky, but I reckon even the angriest Top Gear anorak will find plenty of entertainment in this feature.

“Here’s kind of how it goes. There’s a welcome of sorts from Jeremy, and we meet him and his mates for a series of challenges to determine whether Australia or England gets to hold a brilliant new sporting title: The Motoring Ashes. Cue cricketing analogy, etc. Then it’s time to take on The Nigels (they called us The Bruces, so it only seemed fair…) in sheep herding, drag racing, drifting, upside-down racing and rallying.”

Cheers Bruce. Jeremy also attempts to get sideways with the latest iteration of Ferrari’s most iconic marquee: the 599 GTO. Whether his film reaches the orgasmic heights of last year’s 458 Italia review, you’ll have to wait and see.

And Britain’s favourite German Boris Becker turns up to try to match John Bishop’s astonishing lap last week in our Reasonably Priced Car. A tough ask…

Enjoy the show – it’s the usual time of 8pm, Sunday, BBC2 once again – and see you afterwards for some discussion, outtakes and extras on TopGear.com.

Come on your hosts did not have to say that about my country. I thought you English would be better than the Yanks here in the US but I can see where they get if from. Somethings never change if you know what I mean.

Well, I wasn’t going to come back on here, but it’s probably worth pointing out that none of the presenters actually have a Twitter account. Any comments supposedly made by any of them on Twitter are actually being made by a fake. Don’t fall for it.

Hi there,

I – being German – have surely been target of Top-Gear-Stereotyping a lot of times and surely, the clichées described by the boys do not reflect reality as a whole. But after all, this is comedy, it is an intentional exaggeration, overgeneralisation and – being British humour after all – very cynical and dark. My point is: Do not take it to seriously, the boys don’t as well. I bet if we made mean and stereotypical, even racist jokes about them being Brits, they would answer with a smile on their faces and probably a good one about us in return ;) . The Top Gear view of Germany is, well an overly correct, punctual, humourless bunch of warfaring invaders of Poland still mourning for Hitler. I think that is hilarious, because this clichée about my people is far from the truth, but still a very funny picture in the way they present it. After all, this part of history may be really dark, but there is a time and a place to criticise it by using humour as well.
By the way, I especially liked that joke which BMW pulled with an older version of the Mini, especially made to suite the needs of Brits: Teebags and cup holders instead of a glove compartment :D …that one was really good AND Top Gears answer (raised arms instead of indicators and a nav system only pointing to Poland) made me drown in laughter.

Cheers boys, rally love your show!!!!

With your permission (this is directed to TGUK fans defending the Mexican segment), may I ask a question(s)?

If TG did not sling any stereotypical humor with regard any race, nationality, gender or otherwise, would you still be fans of this show?

If they kept their insults limited to themselves (they clown each other a lot) would you be seeking other Sunday night entertainment?

One more question:

Didn’t this blog use to be about cars and what the hosts opinions were about them?

As a matter of fact, didn’t the show itself use to be about cars?

In my humble opinion, and after spending many years on this planet, TGUK has maybe two more years before someone pulls the plug, or revamps it completely, or one the hosts’ gets shot for crossing the line.

Bye-

You defend your actions by saying “thats part of the humour”, or “angry people are not really fans of the show”, etc, but let me tell you my personal opinion, as i consider myself a real Top gear’s Mexican fan:
It’s not wrong to make fun of somebody else, as long as you have an idea of what are you dealing with,

Freedom of speech is a right, but it is also a right to expose our disagreement to an undeniably mistaken behavior.

As far as i have noticed watching Top Gear, you constantly make jokes about frenchs, or italians, or americans, but these cultures are somehow “used to it”, because they do that too to you and they don’t care if you mess up with them. But mexican people never “mess up” with you, and for an undeveloped country like mexico it’s a pride to be capable of producing a high quality 100% mexican car, and people would expect to be well judged, for such an important step to this country, by such an important tv show as top gear; but on the contrary of that you just made fun of this success, and said shit about the country(and you all know it’s truth). Not even the car, a country that in reality is not at all as it was described by these three CAR critics.
An important show such as Top Gear, transmits all over the world this wrong information, affecting, in a way you can’t imagine, our economy (since one of the most important sources of money for Mexico is the tourism), and our culture, so this mess did become political.
It is evident that it’s affecting both countries relations, and Mexicans are waiting for a SINCERE apologize directly from the presenters.

Freedom of speech is a right, but it is also a right to expose our disagreement for such a mistaken behavior . This is what we expect from you people.

In case anyone else wants to complain, the BBC HAVE issued an apology . Richard Hammond has also personally made an apology for any offence his remarks have caused. It’s on his Facebook page..

Here’s hoping there’s and end to it and we can all get on with enjoying Top Gear.

Dear readers, dear TopGear Management, BBC Board of Management, dear TopGear Team

Thanks for the apology to Mexico, i believe at these point makes no sense, the people from all around has spoken their points of view about the embarrassing situation for all parts involved.

if this was a strategy to rise the rating, well first an aplause for the smart team that created this nonsense conflict. btw that was a really bad taste strategy
well, now all around the globe Asia, Latin America and Europe people are speaking about the issue. for the Mastretta Cars great publicity, i didnt know about this car, now i am interested on it.

thanks to the incompetence of the TopGear Management to handle this issue. Now they are many reactions in many sectors of around the Globe specially in Mexico (but not just the Goverment, but the whole country) regarding this nonSENSE kostenlose Probleme.

now the BBC histerically is posting with strategic Youtube accounts seasons of topgear for free every hour, to try to avoid the audience to find something about the problem with mexico that could affect them in the long term. well that is just so obvious. May be to late, looks that the Fans supporting the Mexican complain are posting at the same speed as you, many responses to TopGear in youtube.

Regarding the apology letter published

How you (Lawyers and Management of TopGear) justify the totally Dumb and ignorant comments from the 3 TopGear presenters, just by saying that the audience of this program is intended only for the UK, and therefore there was no issue to talk like that on it, because in the UK ussing stereotypes to entertain the public is fine.

Well TopGear is nowadays an International Program, you know it better than anyone, because you Managers of TopGear do the marketing strategies for the global market.

And yes, thanks to the SatTV and youtube you have lots of fans all around the Globe, please at least take care of them and think twice before making the lines for the next program.

i am sorry, but every country is full of traditions and culture, if for the neighbours of the UK in Europe. There is no issue with the program using stereotypes jokes regarding them, fine for them/us.

but please be more aware with the scripts, it is now a program with audience all around the Globe. consider it before saying something. Some countries tolerate certain things, others doesnt. Just put your people to do some research before doing the skript, just to know what can be considered as a serious ofense. otherwise certain comments will cause this nonsense conflicts.

Thanks to the internet and Satellite TV TopGear Fans had the chance to enjoy the crazy things the TopGear guys do with cool cars, we like it, is funny, please keep doing it, but from now WISELY or youll have lots of complains knocking at your door in seconds.

Regarding the idle state of the TopGear Management in front of a demand from the fans all around the world, please someone teach them how to react to accept what was wrong since the beginning.

I dont know but, twitter and Facebook and youtube accounts from thousands are now under firing creating a virtuall wave of disqualifications and insults between all kind of TopGear Fans.
What for??? againg and aplausse to the Manager in charge of the marketing strategies

Please use your most powerfull product (The 3 show presenters) to put peace on this and let them talk to the Fans… let them talk to the FANS, as a matter of respect to all of us.

hope this will server for something to anyone at the TopGear Team as a lesson to learn at least something.

Greetings from Germany
Steffany Galas

I’m originally from Belgium and have been living in Mexico for 19 years now. I’ve also lived for many years in England so I’m quite familiar with English humor. On top of that an avid fan of Top Gear…my message is this: the English make fun of other cultures just as much as of themselves and this happens in any culture. People offended by the comments on Mexico should get a sense of humor and not take themselves so serious. Life would be a lot nicer if everybody would stop taking themselves so serious and have a good laugh at themselves.
Keep it up lads, nice one!
PS 1: refried beans DO look like sick with cheese on it, but taste bloody nice.
PS 2: Can I have a go on your track?

Ben.

I did like top gear. it was one of my favorite shows in the entire world until you had the Mexican car incident. I bet you couldn’t live long enough to make it up to us.

i don’t understand why the mexicans are so angry… really… i’ve read a bunch of comments saying “i was a huge top gear fan, but now i hate the show”, so that means that the show used to be funny because they made fun of all cultures except yours?? c’mon!!
with this extremely unjustified flood of rage (even raising this issue to a matter of state) makes evident one very big issue that most latin american countries have; a huge inferiority complex (and i know precisely what i’m talking about because i come from a latin american country called bolivia). if we can’t see our own flaws to at least be able to laugh about them, how can we ever become better people?
the reasonable thing to do would have been to answer with a smile and perhaps a better set of jokes in return making fun of the british…
oh! and it was really strange for me to hear the british making fun of other cultures’ food!! c’com, mexican food is a million times better than what the british call “food” (you guys are famous for eating fish and chips, c’mon!) there, i just helped you mexicans out with an idea for your comeback
