People of South Africa, the penultimate stage of our automotive extravaganza featuring a smidge of fire, a touch of tyre smoke and some drifty lunacy kicks off today in Jo’burg for the first time.
Jeremy, Richard and James will be the ringmasters of our very own motoring zoo, and we’ve pulled together some very special guests certain to roast your automotive spuds.
David Coulthard will pilot one of Red Bull F1’s cars throughout the weekend, while South Africa’s very own Formula One world champion Jody Scheckter – who took the title in 1979 – will help celebrate 50 years of the Kyalami GP circuit’s existence.
And because Jody is such a nice chap, he’s bringing along a collection of his iconic F1 cars for you lot to ogle, pictures of which are being captured by his son Hugo.
Check out Hugo Scheckter’s shots here
There are more automotive greats to spear your gherkin: five-time Le Mans winner Derek Bell, BBC F1 pundit Eddie Jordan, Pink Floyd’s very own Nick Mason, former TG man Tiff Needell and even the ’Ring master herself, Sabine Schmitz, will all be in attendance. Oh, and let’s not forget his Stiggyness too…
There’s going to be drag racing, power tests, time trials, off-roading, rallying and a spot of drifting, all under the expert supervision of your ambitious-but-not-actually-rubbish hosts. As Jezza said: “It should be… just brilliant.”
If you’re heading down, why not take some snaps and share your glee with our TopGear.com community? Send your pics in to editor@topgear.com, and we’ll publish the very best.
The Top Gear Festival hits Kyalami, Johannesburg from 17 to 20 March 2011. For more info, visit the Top Gear Festival website.

Broken valentine
The perfect gift for a girl to give her man on valentines would obviously be tickets to something that has to do with cars, but to get him TOP GEAR tickets. Hello diamond ring! I mean the TV show is like his soapy that he’ll watch over and over again. I myself started to get a liking in it.
After weeks of waiting and building up the excitement on face book we were at the festival at 10:00 even tough our show only started at 14:00. I could feel my heart bounding out of my very well endowed chest as Jeremy, Richard and James came up. Just as were getting into the show nature decides to bring us a little rain. With no umbrella or rain coats we stood there waiting for the show to go on. Unfortunately the rain didn’t stop. And walking that long road to our busses made us even more miserable. Driving away soaking wet feeling incomplete.
All I’m asking is for you guys to please come back next year as I will be one of those first in the row to buy tickets. This time I’ll bring my umbrella and rain coat for in case.
Hope to see you guys again.
Mandy, South-Africa

I was there for the 2pm show on Saturday and 20 min into the show the rain came down with everything it had. Nothing was more frustrating. Anyway I waited for them to restart at 4:30pm even thou my clothes could not absorb any more water. R500 gone with the rain but to see these guys again, I most definitely will pay to see. Please come back next year. I am sure the weather will behave this time. But thanks for completing the show at 4:30pm. It was a fun filled day.

Huge Top Gear fan but so dissapointed. Went to the show on the 17th in Kyalami in Johannesburg, were not informed that there would be a full days event so just went for the show. The show was incredibly short and dissapointing. Was a waste of time through and through even after 3 months of waiting in anticipation. Last years Coca Cola dome show was much better.
Was dissapointed that we didnt know there was a full days event so we just came for the actual show. Even though we confirmed with Computicket several times about our tickets they instructed us to come to the show and didnt inform us about any other event.

To all those that are judging the ‘rained out’ guys. Stop being selfish twits just because you got to see the legends do their thing and we didn’t.
We are die hard fans just as you guys are, so how would you feel if you paid good money to see them and got to see all of 15 minutes???? You clearly don’t understand the extremity of what we experienced, we weren’t exposed to a light drizzle, it was a full on torrent.
Rain was forecast, surely there should have been a contingency plan. We too would continue to be as chuffed about the event as you are…..if we got to experience it.

I wanted to post the link to the HelloPeter complaints, but I notice that shabsta already did that above. I’m not surprised that so many people are demanding a refund for a really badly organised event!!!

After looking forward to something bigger and better after attending the top gear event at the Dome last year, I was also very disappointed with the short 45 minute show, and left with a muddy long walk back in the rain to arrive at the one and a half hour queue in the rain for a bus to take us back to the mud pit where our cars were parked, please can we take it back to the Dome.

Poor Jeremy! If he gains any more weight about the only thing he’ll fit into will be a NASCAR machine of some sort, or maybe a really big, comfortable lorry, or even worse, a caravan! Too much time in the colonies eating all that fast, fattening food! Really, Jeremy, have your publicist review the snaps your “team” posts! The one for this blog is a real eye-opener! Soon, you’ll have to reserve two seats just to fly anywhere!

Hi Top Gear Tosser’s!
Loved the shows at the Coca Cola Dome….totaly disgusted by the terrible organisation at this years “festival”. Kyalami is no good as a venue & 50 years old now…and it shows it too. Please hold it at a purpose built event like when DURBAN hosted the A1 GP’s!!!!! Plenty of parking and good weather here on the east coast of SA. You guys where supposed to be the high light of the event but where rained off stage after 20 mins of the Saturday 19th 2 pm show. We the audience got a COMPLETE soaking right down to the under wear. Expecting people to walk 2 km to get into a venue is nuts. Pregnant women, old folks and the disabled had to stumble along whilst golf carts and 4×4 vehicles noncholantly charged along past them. Reminded me of seeing refugee colomns on the evening news! No Signage after the trek in. Excellent display of Nick Mason’s Ferrari exotica and motor muesem displays + Jodie’s F1 collection too bad rain stopped most of the track action. Won’t be back next year if held at Kyalami again.
Please stage this in Durban next year!

Just like I saqid in my previous comment, the Top Gear crew should pay more visits to SA, also make an appearance in Port Elizabeth, East London, Umthatha (where mad people live, you’ll love the N2 there!), and Durban.
Keep the fun rolling!
