It’s not a widely known fact, but the Top Gear office on a balcony suspended right over the top of Britain’s favourite daily evening magazine show on BBC1: The One Show.
This means we get to sing happy birthday to their array of production staff on a regular basis, share lifts with all sorts of random celebrities (it was Ian Hislop yesterday), and also get hot news off the presses about their guests.
Well, this evening one of them doesn’t have far to go. James will be wandering downstairs to the show tonight to talk about his latest piece of moonlighting: a new series of his Man Lab.
As you’ll see from the trailer below, suitably male pursuits abound: boiler-suit-creating, tree-cutting, penalty-taking, prison-escaping and heavy-metal-crowd-baiting.
James May’s Man Lab starts 8pm on Tuesday 25th October, BBC2, and if you want some tasters, the team also have been uploading some behind-the-scenes clips for you all right here.

What do you think?

I know this is completely off topic, but I have just seen with my own eyes, quite possibly the ugliest vehicle ever constructed by human kind, the Nissan Juke. It’s ghastly, even worse than that boiler(?) suit that James made for his Man Lab programme, though thankfully, as I live in the United States, I’ve only ever seen that suit here on the TopGear.com website and I haven’t had to endure it on the telly. Seriously though, I can’t imagine what these people were thinking when they even bought the car. My only guess was that they lost some kind of bet, or that perhaps you have another candidate for a blind man going around the Top Gear track. If you want to know what I’m on about, look at the pictures here, and tell me I’m wrong that this isn’t the ugliest vehicle on the planet.

Yes the joke…i mean juke is ugly but we will get used to it.(like the fiat multipla) My theory is that with so many boring cars on the road and really beautiful cars being expensive and impractical, people are happy to rise above the modular by buying ugly cars. Makes them seem quirky and interesting in comparison!

I can’t wait for the show to come on but I have to wait longer than anyone! We don’t get any BBC shows until at 4 to 6 months later. How will I get my James May fix!!!

@ James_May….you are not wrong about the Juke.
That is the most butt-fugly car I have ever had the displeasure of looking at.
It looks as though a Nissan Murano and a Ferrari 458 had a night of forbidden love, and somewhere in the festivities, a 1966 Alfa Giulia, joined in.
But, to its credit, it does look strangely appealing, even though it makes me vomit involuntarily. The Juke’s designer is clot, and he’s ruined the car.
Anyway, on topic….
James’ shows have always interested me, so I dont think this one will be any different. A show like this needs the May touch, It just wouldnt be the same otherwise.
Could you imagine Jeremy assuming the role? The series would last 3 minutes…. 2 of those minutes would be him blowing up the boiler-suit.

No, the Pontiac Aztek still holds that reign. I actually sold Pontiacs for a month(I sold 3 used Buicks BTW
, and I could never imagine anyone actually choosing that car/thing over others.

This, Mr.May, is another show that should (& must) be shown in the states. BBC America, I should imagine. I must ask Mr.May, have you ever met Adam or Jamie (Mythbusters)?? I believe you & Mr.Hyneman would get on well–
