Top Gear USA returns to the UK this Friday

People of Britain – if you’re suffering chronic Top Gear withdrawal following our recent epic trip to India, we have good news. Top Gear USA is back on BBC Three this Friday for its second season. Not only that, it’s kicking off with a double bill.

First up in the season opener Adam, Rutledge and Tanner travel through the heart of truck country, Texas, tasked with trucky challenges in incredibly non-truck-like coupés. CB radios are also involved…

And in episode two, the boys set out to see who had the best first car – by purchasing the same jalopies they drove in high school. If you’re looking for proof that conditioning during adolescence determines adult predilections, look no further than their first cars: Adam drove a Dodge Aries K, beginning his lifelong love affair with vehicles American and often mediocre; Tanner a sporty and foreign Honda CRX; Rutledge poked around in a rare, slow and predictably quirky VW Rabbit diesel pickup. The producers set them a series of challenges employing trophies, mini-mes and utter mayhem to somehow test important first-car traits like build quality, drivability and crashworthiness.

It all kicks off on BBC Three at 7pm, this Friday 13 January. And to get you in the mood – here’s an exclusive trailer of everything you can expect in the coming weeks…

Oh, and we’ll have some news about the new series of British Top Gear next week too… In the meantime if you want to keep up with all the latest Top Gear USA news, follow our official Facebook page here.

What do you think?

Oh no, let’s all complain because it is not as good as the real Top Gear.

Tanner is a sellout. He should give up on TV or just go Stig. He’s a great drifter and missed in Formula D but the brash attitude of a hot shot driver and the Top Gear format go together like oil and water.

Why?

Looks pretty sweet, the american one appears to be improving as time goes by, and it wasnt as bad as people made it out to be in the first place. It would be interesting if all three sets of presenters- UK, US and Australia could have a competition.

Also, friday the 13th?

At least what most people here really want, the UK show, is returning at the end of the month. :)

I’ve seen this series already, through the magic of BitTorrent and have to say that most of the episodes in the series are a lot better than the crap that was the Indian Special.
The Americans seem to get the buddy movie format done well (i.e. cheap car challenge), much better than Clarkson et al, although the road tests aren’t as good.

BBC once again, selling they’re program for money, Top Gear UK

Prefer this to TG UK, yeah, I said it.

I watched the last series and it was OK, so I will watch series 2. However, just because it is not as good as the original one here in England, that doesn’t mean it’s awful and no reason to watch

If you don’t like Yanky TG don’t bloody watch it, sit around waiting for normal TG to return…

I have already seen all of season 2 and it is a HUGE improvement from season 1, in season 1 you could tell that the three were still uncomfortable and the interviews they gave were, at times, abysmal. In the second season you can tell that they have been hanging around each other more and are getting pretty comfortable with the whole presenting thing, so if you thought that the first season was ok or could have been better, watch season 2, it’s a huge step forward from season 1, oh and the challenges are pretty funny as well.

Topgear UK used to have me crying with laughter. The last couple of series have been very short and have lost the magic. Old jokes being recycled. Shame really. Bring back the days of more challengedslike the convertible MPV.

Season two is a lot better then Season one, it has stuff that Top Gear UK is missing, like whats the best Pick-up. And it offers cars that are offered here in America instead of showing cars that make us Americans drool over. The original will always be the best, but in terms of a good informational Car show they are seriously improving and I would enjoy a episode where Clarkson, May, Hammond, Tanner, Rutledge, and Adam compete against each other in defeating American and British misconceptions of each other.

US version is getting better but I agree with FR-SZ that Tanner doesn’t fit in. He doesn’t have an ability to laugh at himself. That’s critical in the buddy-challenge format. His solo car reviews are okay though. He did a good job reviewing the Morgan but it almost sounded as if his lines were written by TG-UK.

This seasons better than the first one.

Nice. This can be good fun sometimes. Can’t wait for you guys to unveil news regarding TopGear

Let’s hope it’s better than season one of the US version, cause that one was bad. Typical “format” errors where they copy what works elsewhere but loose all spontaneity in the process. As to season 18 of the real TG: make it much and much longer than season 17! And let the boys just have fun, it keep us ROTFL. And make sure not to muzzle them for political correctness. Have some fun, it brightens up our week!

Why must we subject the nice people of the UK with US television? Especially these bumble heads?

I’ve already watched the 2nd season (or series) of Top Gear US.

YOU just have to know where TU-BE look…. <– Hint..

being american, i’ve already seen this complete season of top gear usa and i would have to say that it is utter garbage compared to the uk version. rutledge is a moron, tanner is a second-rate sell-out, and adam is a has-been comedian that was never really funny to begin with.

watching the us version after watching the uk version for so long, i see that most all of their challenges and tests have already been done by the uk guys…….and the delivery is terrible. the guys on top gear uk seem like they mesh well, while the us guys just seem to be reading lines from a script and are only there for a pay check.

i can honestly say that i will never watch top gear us again. i would rather wait for new episodes from the uk or delve into the old ones on my dvr.
