People of Britain – if you’re suffering chronic Top Gear withdrawal following our recent epic trip to India, we have good news. Top Gear USA is back on BBC Three this Friday for its second season. Not only that, it’s kicking off with a double bill.
First up in the season opener Adam, Rutledge and Tanner travel through the heart of truck country, Texas, tasked with trucky challenges in incredibly non-truck-like coupés. CB radios are also involved…
And in episode two, the boys set out to see who had the best first car – by purchasing the same jalopies they drove in high school. If you’re looking for proof that conditioning during adolescence determines adult predilections, look no further than their first cars: Adam drove a Dodge Aries K, beginning his lifelong love affair with vehicles American and often mediocre; Tanner a sporty and foreign Honda CRX; Rutledge poked around in a rare, slow and predictably quirky VW Rabbit diesel pickup. The producers set them a series of challenges employing trophies, mini-mes and utter mayhem to somehow test important first-car traits like build quality, drivability and crashworthiness.
It all kicks off on BBC Three at 7pm, this Friday 13 January. And to get you in the mood – here’s an exclusive trailer of everything you can expect in the coming weeks…
Oh, and we’ll have some news about the new series of British Top Gear next week too… In the meantime if you want to keep up with all the latest Top Gear USA news, follow our official Facebook page here.

I have seen a bit of season 2 already and I was really surprised at how much I liked it – I thought the presenters were pretty funny and it was far more like the good old days of UK TG when they did challenges without the need for stupid set up “accidents and stunts”.
Also the trailer was pretty damn sweet too – nice music choice:)

I saw season 2 and its a good one, they r revising a 3rd one for us here in USA. Don’t forget people Jeremy, James, and Richard all said they liked the show and actually argued over some of the vehicles used in their cheap car challenges as to whose was better!

I think they completely over did the usa season 2. I like the challenges, but when an episode is nothing but the challenge week after week, it really gets boring. Some car reviews in between, or actually filming them as they go to buy their cars. First season was better than this, I Actually think the the Australian one is better, though they change host every season.

Please try to evolve this program as we have all evolved in the last 10 years. It was all very funny, at first, but it starts to get a little bit childish the longer it goes on. Mind you, the goofing about of Jeremy, James and Richard has the same problem. Try to grow up at some stage. We do like the topic but the presentation becomes so repeditive.

I’m British and I actually quite like Top Gear USA. Of course they’re going to copy the successful format of the British version, but I think the hosts have a good rapport with each other and they do some interesting challenges and reviews.

There was no reason to make Top Gear USA. All they had to do was show Top Gear (original).

You can promote TGUSA but can’t respond to complaints about the India special, why so?

LOVE TG USA and LOVE the hosts! In fact, I often like the USA version BETTER than the UK one!
And to Anonymous who thinks that Americans have never been very witty, give the 2nd season a chance tonight, you might be surprised how witty we Americans can actually be!
I’ve seen all these episodes, and they are two good ones coming up tonight for you Brits, so just give it a chance!

I’m American an I hate TGUSA, it’s lame. Yet again we try reinterpret a show, lose its spirit and create a cheap imitation. The Car Show on ESPN is much better. Its clever and entertaining like TGUK.

I live in Canada and thankfully after that CRAPPY first season, none of our channels seem to be carrying the TOTALLY DISAPPOINTING usa version. It is TERRIBLE!!! Hopefully in the future the other stations will get wise and not carry it. The presenters are TERRIBLE, the shows too scripted.

I live in the US and the US version of Top Gear is ridiculous. 2 frat boys and an actual driver is no comparison to the UK version. All it would take to make it a good show is presenters that actually like driving, have some automobile education, and are not idiots. Keep the Hammond lookalike, hire Adam Carolla and that silver haired guy from The Car Show (vastly superior show to the US Top Gear) and can, or freeze in Carbonite, the other two dumba$$es. Then I would watch this horrendous copy of a great show.

Tried to like it but……….. just isn’t funny, in the UK Top Gear vain. Maybe they,(the US version), will find there legs someday, as did the boys from the UK. But until then I’ll stick to the original version. The presenters of the UK version are a unique and eclectic bunch, and I quite enjoy there banter.
The travelogues, cars and camera work are pretty sweet as well.
