Top Gear USA: Supercars dominate this Tuesday

A mysterious celebrity with a taste for open-topped supercars sends Adam, Rut and Tanner on a quest to hand select the ideal machine for speed and sun. As the boys prove their vehicles’ mettle in a series of challenges, they’re issued clues about their client’s identity. Later, actor and veteran Jon Huertas discovers whether military discipline translates into consistent, fast laps.

Adam, Rut and Tanner each choose what they think will be the perfect drop-top supercar for their mystery client. There are all kinds of celebrities– those who crave attention, those who eschew it and those who don’t give a rat’s ass. The three cars chosen by our hosts run the gamut.

Adam shows up at a haughty New England address in a Bentley Continental GTC. Old-world craftsmanship (the hides of 12 cows are hand-stitched into the interior) meets enough modern turbocharged horsepower for an invertebrate-massacring 195 mph top speed.

Rut flaunts dash and cash with a Lamborghini Murciélago Roadster. It doesn’t get any more flamboyant, at 205 mph, faster, and at $420K, more expensive in this group.

Tanner, surprise surprise, shows up in a Porsche 911 Turbo S Cabriolet. It’s the quickest of the bunch with a 2.7-second 0-60 time but is fairly anonymous, at least in any city with orthodontists.

Which supercar will be most appropriate for their celebrity client? At a private airport in Kingston NY, the hosts race a golf ball struck by a man with a very large swing – while attempting to keep a hairpiece atop their mops with the top down. So the car must be quick, and gentle on hairstyles…

Thirty miles away, a stunning private racetrack awaits laps made in anger. Or as angry a lap as they can coax out of three octogenarians (one arrives on a mobility scooter) who will serve as their co-drivers. Here’s hoping that Tanner’s co-driver doesn’t wear a pacemaker. So ingress and egress must be easy, and it must be straightforward to drive…

After navigating the vicious sea of potholes, construction and cabbies that define New York City, the hosts meet their celebrity client in the heart of Manhattan. Time is money for this celebrity and their judgment swift. Which host do you think will make the sale?

Later in the show, actor Jon Huertas stops in to share his real-life car chase stories from the streets of LA and to put down the kind of lap expected of a former Mustang owner who liked to make it slide.

Tune in, American fans of the American Top Gear – it’s on History this Tuesday at 9/8c. You can catch up on episodes you’ve missed on the History Channel Top Gear site  and get breaking news on the Top Gear US Facebook Page . Let us know what you think.

slash is a legend.
can anyone tell me if he accepted
the Rock and Roll hall of fame with the origicial
GNR lineup.

I know Axel rose is a prat.
but i hope Slash decide to accept it
and turn up. for the fans of the first lineup.
last time ever, nice way to end the feud between the two.

Seeing Slash next to the Toyota Hilux, playing Jessica from
the olmond brothers. brought a tear to my eye, as i miss Slash
and Axel working together.
they did some great stuff together. shame they do not speak anymore.

I’m guessing they are car shopping for Donald Trump.

USA Gal
Hope you are right.
i know that they 4 best off
season 17 and eighteen lined up
for us.
TGUSA nice twist on a supercar challenge.
i hope they finally deliver that Espiode, that will make
the rest of the world go that cool.
they are nearly there in cracking it. just need a bit
of Direction from the History Channel.

14espiodes per year, two series and a Christmas Special.
then the show will get even better.

Steve12,

Yeah, I’m pretty sure the premiere is April 16th. And then right after the TG premiere Hammond’s Crash Course will come on right after that.

Anonymous,

The bottom line is that TG USA is a hit. I remember reading an article online that their latest premiere got more ratings than ever .They keep getting better and better. It has plenty of loyal fans and continues to grow, including a new following in the UK.

So perhaps the feeling you have about the show isn’t as “well known” as you think.

Rutledge will win by whining and cheating as always.

US GAL.
rating can be misleading.
look at the late night chat show.
not really tough work isit.

sit there, interview a few celebrity
and collect a paycheck.
gone are the days of hard hitting american drama.
the wire, 24,sorpanos and my favourite CSI.

Broadwalk empire, homeland, covert affairs are not
as good as shows like Alias, nip tuck and early house.
to PC13 american tv if you askme.

Sounds good, even though I doubt they can find a Turbo S can do a 0-60 is 2.7 seconds given that Porsche clocked the new one at 3.3… Still I think it’s a great show. Sure, they’re not as charismatic as Clarkson & Co. but the challenges are still great. Also, being an American show they can get away with testing all that muscle and all those trucks that deep down we all want to see (see the Ford F150 SVT Raptor test for an example).

I am not sure who Jon Huertas is (even after googling and iMDB searching), but I just had to still come on here and say he was acting like a complete, unprofessional, douche.

I know I am opening myself up for attack by every gearhead out there but, I have a few questions about last night’s episode.
Isn’t the Bentley Continental based on the Volkswagen Phaeton, and is in the Lamborghini based on that Audi R8, which also has ties to the Volkswagen. And please correct me if I’m mistaken doesn’t the Porsche also have ties to Volkswagen? Did we essentially have three German-based cars on Top Gear America? I understand everyone wanted to go with a quality 200 mile-per-hour supercar no one selected the American built Corvette or CTS V, or Nissan GTR all three of these would be good drivers in New York City.
Maybe we should seem more American cars on American Top Gear.

I wouldn’t say that Top Gear-US “sucks ass”, but I’d agree that it can’t even begin to compare with the original. Who could expect them to match Jezza, Hamster and May?

I view it as another way to keep myself busy waiting for the next season of “the real thing”.

@ Art 3 There is a GTR drop top? That would be news to me-and probably to Nissan as well.

Why do TopGear JUST do cars normal people CAN’T afford??

Well done Lewis Hamiltion on pole at the australian
grand prix.
excellent second place for Jensen Button.
combined they make over FIFTY million pounds
a year.

Good to see Micheal Schumacher, get fourth on the grid
Still live in the veteran racing driver.
Nascar really boring, even after Hamster piece.
Indycar, i feel asleep after ten minutes watching it.

2.7 seconds? What a load of crap. Do they even research these cars before they talk about them? I hate the quality of this show. The presenters suck at presenting, they suck at narrating, they suck at impromptu humor, and rutledge is useless. Adam is mildly entertaining without trying to hard and tanner can drive, but is kind of a douche.
This show needs to be cancelled or overhauled.

what a god awful show: not entertaining at all. needs a complete makeover or cancellation. just seems like theyre trying to copy the UK version frame to frame.

i suggest originality and better hosts. the commentary is bland and makes me want to punch the tv. its top gear USA, so stick to what you know, for example: off-roading with big rigs pulling trailers filled with firecrackers whilst firing m16s out the windows…id watch that
