Well, here’s the news you’ve all been waiting for. Top Gear officially returns to UK screens on Sunday 27 January on BBC Two and BBC HD.
Yes, we’re back with our nineteenth series. We’ll have more info from the entire TG crew as usual on the site in the coming days (they’re rather busy finishing everything), but for now, here’s more on the first show.
First up, Jeremy revisits one of his favourite Top Gear films by attempting to build a car that’s even smaller than the Peel P50, before testing it out on the streets of London and then, finally, in front of the fearsome Dragon’s Den. No word yet whether Fiona Bruce’s bottom makes another appearance.
Meanwhile, James road tests the fearsome new 205mph Bentley Continental GT Speed by taking it out on a British Rally stage, and Richard makes a welcome return to the test track in the sensational new Pagani Huayra (before handing over to a certain tame racing driver).
Oh, and we’ve also got Homeland star and acclaimed redhead Damian Lewis as the Star In The Reasonably Priced Car.

Seriously? 6 Episodes? Personally I think the trio have grown too big for their own boots, that or they have just plain run out of ideas.. Hey I know lets do something like the football game like we have twice before but this time make it rugby.. “yawn”
Maybe they should kill off one of the characters, that generally gets the ratings up.

Top Gear is my favourite thing on TV.
But there isn’t enough episodes
Well, I’m happy that it’s back. Just under 2 weeks till the first episode airs

Thinking about it, I read an article saying that this series was in essence, the Christmas specials ‘delayed’.
So hopefully they’ll continue a while after the first 6 episodes. Traditionally summer time(ish).
So let’s not start on TG team, I think there’s more. Unless they are paving the way for more Top Gear USA, then I’ll be angry.

Why make us wait for over a year, then give us only six episodes. Are you really trying to pass off six episodes as a whole season? Most seasons of shows last at least 15 episodes. And don’t tell us you give us enough top gear, bbc, I live in america and you only air episodes of top gear three months after their original air date on bbc america. I really don’t get why you do this. And once they have been shown, if I ever watch an episode again on normal tv, it’s always shortened so that I don’t see all of it. I have to comb the internet to find the full version. iplayer isn’t even available in the us. You really need to get your act together.

Err… BBC is the BRITISH Broadcasting Corporation…., so while it also provides a limited world-wide service, it’s primary obligation is to the British public who fund the BBC through our licence fees.
You start paying for the service, then you start to have a right to complain..

I think the last, truly great source of entertainment; that is Top Gear is sadly driving off into the sunset.
The last series had something like 6 episodes in it and the fact that I wasn’t enjoying a Top Gear Christmas Special at the tail end of last year is just absolutely unforgivable!
I am praying to everything and anything that this series will prove me extremely wrong!

They keep telling you, but you don’t listen. We only get 6 episodes because they have a limited budget and they want to maintain their very high quality of production. Personally, I’d much rather have half a dozen great episodes, than 15 crap ones.

Only 6 episodes will be fine if all 6 are good episodes, but if the last couple of series are anything to go by, at least one of them will be terrible (Sweeney car chase comes straight to mind). Blatently scripted scenes and bad unnecessary acting are dragging the show down. Still, I’m optimistic about the new Africa special (Africa… part 2?) and the race with the train.

Wish they could have more episodes. Iv’e been waiting SOOOO long for series 19, and it will be over in only a little more than a month. At least we have now got a new tradition, watching reruns over and over again of series 19! And when series 20 comes out!

I’m always amused when people complain about the Sweeney episode, not just because its one the funniest things they’ve ever done. Of course it was scripted. Do you really think the producers of the Sweeney, operating on a microscopic budget, would let a show like Top Gear share an active film location without knowing exactly what was going to happen – and in Hollywood, that means to the word. Of course not. It’d be – very expensive – chaos.

Perhaps if they did less ‘comedy’ specials and more studio / track reviews it would feel like Top Gear of old that we all loved and enjoyed. I can appreciate that the boys have many more commitments and so much less time to dedicate to the show.
If six is all we get, I’ll happily watch them as it’s still the only decent entertainment programme on the box these days.

The licence fee, had been frozen for three
year that meansa 500 Millon shortfall in the
BBC budget.
The Goverment has, taken away their support
for the Worldservice so the BBC has to pay for
it too.
Even after making, one Billon in profit the BBC
has to use that to pay for programme and there
a lot in it wide charter to cover.
The money Top Gear makes, is used mainly to fund
the Excellent BBC radio service.
i hate it too, but David Cameron must take some off
the blame for not supporting an increase in the licence
fee to help pay for the BBC wprld service.
Hopefully they do, series 19 and be back
at Christmas with some new shows.
The Olympics was great, but it costs the BBC a
lot of money to cover as they give it everything to
put on a good show for the world to enjoy.

Hey Whingers – 19 series’ since 2002 equals about 2 a year. Sure they are slowing down but Clarkson and co have admitted that they have pretty much done all they can do.
Would you rather have 6 eps a year, or no TG at all?

Top Gear has raised, according to reports over
one Billion pounds in ten years from merchnise
and TV Deals.
Why than only, restrict it to a small amount off shows
when only Masterchef, Doctor Who and Games show
sold around the world match that amount.
BBC I know, that to cut costs but this is too much
as you need more show from your top earners.
that my point, we as Top Gear fans have a Billion
reasons to be annoyed with lack off answers from
both the BBC and Top Gear it self.
Just tell us, when the shows air and how many
espiodes per year.
I think ten shows, one series Ten weeks would be
enough.
That all i am, asking for Ten Weeks off fun a year
even the BBC in Recession can afford tht amount.
Make Clarkson work hard, for once as he does not
do spin off shows like the other two.

Battle of Britain, on the ground was fun
and the Car in question were great bits
of enginering.
Also liked the Fondess, of the Saab piece
good piece of motoring jourlism there.
always respected Saab, and what they tried
to do to make cars safter and better.
Also the Rallycross, piece was fun and
enjoyable as i like Rallycross.

I think this series going to be a great series i think they made us wait a year to prove its the end of there mid-life crisis series 19 promises to be top gear reborn and show case remakes of the past best of present and pack it in to a jam packed series also i think top gear till 3rd of march then a special then another series i think
there’s no way Clarkson Hammond and may let the BBC ruin top gear
