(UPDATE: if the service is available in your area, you can watch Sunday’s new Top Gear on the BBC iPlayer here)
Well, there you have it: we’re back with a flying Bentley, a hypercar with innocence, the slowest celebrity lap ever (sorry, Damian), some tremendous tractors, and Jeremy’s P45…
Hope you all enjoyed the first show of the new series – there’s plenty more to come (as you can see here). Let us know your thoughts as usual in the handy space below, and we’ll be back next week with the usual out-takes and extras.
(And if you missed it earlier, head this way to see an exclusive video as the presenters discuss the upcoming shows. And their lunch).

It is after all a fantasy show!
£8000 for the P45- I’ll stick to my bike..which was £3000.
Bentley Rally car ? Er- NO! Roll it one time- and you are BROKE!
£800000 for a track only fashion accessory- NO NO NO. Buy an island instead.
Laughing at the three amigos- priceless.
2 stroke fumes in the library- Must be a Carbon Friendly Day ?

I enjoyed it, but, when JC started by saying they had changed everything and then followed it with a bathotic “no we haven’t” I confess I was disappointed.
Don’t get me wrong it was as polished and professional and sometimes as funny as ever but I got the impression that the boys were going through the motions, even Richards delight at the Pagani seemed, well artificial, and as beautiful as it was, it became just another super car whizzing round a track.
And JC’s P45 remake of the P50 was just that, a remake, and as all remakes seem to be was inferior and thus pointless.
be careful boys, you need to freshen up.

I’m a bit disappointed buy you guys laughing down winter tires as useful three to four days a year.
If you happen to compare the UK to Switzerland you should notice that we get much less problems in the winter, even if the roads are not cleared perfectly. Although, I have to admit that our snow clearing infrastructure seems better, fact remains that majority of people fit winter tires which has significant effect.
Winter tires are not only good in the snow, but also in lower temperatures, they offer better grip due to a different recipe and slightly different profil. And it is not something too expensive.
You get a set, fit it in autumn before the first frost and take them off after the temperatures start rising again.
You shouldn’t drive them in summer, since they wear faster in warm weather.
Maybe you could get the facts out next show as a short news segment.

Imagine my surprise when the first car I see in the new series is a Leon, and here I am thinking “they’re finally doing a peace on a SEAT”, but alas, no, it was just a joke.
How very cruel of you, TG…
It’s been a long wait tho, and it’s great to have the boys and their toys back on the telly.

Just made a stunning observation about the Pagani Huurywywhwhwarrrah.
In the FIRST EPISODE of the current Top Gear format in 2002 the Zonda C12 S did a time of 1:23.8.
Now, near enough 10 years later the new Pagani has done it in 1:13.8, EXACTLY 10 seconds quicker. That’s 1 second per year.
Interesting?

Awesome that the show is finally back, and it seems the management have taken the time rethink it! LOADS of car reviews and news, the Bentley sequences was fantastic, and to finish with jeremy and the P45 was hilarious! Let’s keep the standard up folks! Remember, it’s a CAR show!

Top gear is now more about celebrity self love than cars, Clarkson is the motoring equivalent of Katie Price.

Finally Top Gear is back!!! Can’t be happier than that!!!! XD
The test and the power lap of the Huayra is mind blowing. Again, serious and impressive testing from Hammond, love it!
Taking the Bentley to a rally stage really is a blue-sky thinking to show how good the car is. Love it as well!
At last, the P45… I just want to say if it’s on sale, I am going to buy it, without a moment of doubt!!! Love the car & Clarkson!
Nowadays people are too serious, talking about the balance between this and that…. but to be honest, why so serious? It’s just a show for car lovers, relaxing, funny and put a smile on your face, that’s it.
But I do hope there will be more episode for every new series in the future. They don’t necessarily need to be big films, because being a TG fan for 7 years, even a normal road test of a normal hatchback is more than happy.

The Pagani and Bentley articles were fantastic, petrol head heaven. The SIARPC had a very itchy nose didn’t he? Funny how a lot of celebrities get itchy noses. Clarkson damn near spoiled the whole show with that P45 garbage.

Good episode spoiled really only by the P45 film, didn’t see why so much was needed on this at all, we could have had a bit in the studio and maybe then cut to the bit in Dragons den and that could have been it. Agree with others the Dragons were a bit harsh especially when you think Students designed and built that car, it had some good elements just needed some refinements. Much like the show…
The Pagani test was ok, I was astonished by the lap time, especially when Hammond gave it the beans in a straight line I think I saw 184 before he bottled it, the Lambo LP640 hit over 200 nearly 7 years ago I’m sure it could have gone faster. Mind you it did look a handful if you didn’t know what you were doing, but that lap time blimey!
But this first show was saved by the Conti Speed film, what you thought was maybe going to just be another road test (though if you’d seen the trailer at the beginning or the preview pages you knew what to expect) turned into a real heart in the mouth piece, Chris Meek was absolutely on fire I’ve never seen anyone hustle a car like that on a rally stage, his commitment was staggering, hardly surprising when he was the protege of the late great’if in doubt go flat out’ colin mcrae. Incidentally anyone see the documentary about him later on last night?
Also talking of brave big respect to Damian Lewis in the siarpc piece, not many would have gone as flatout as him in those conditions, the laptime was clearly not reflective of his skill behind the wheel, only finally losing it on the last corner.
Anyway I’m not going to cirticise any more I’m glad to see TG back on the screen, this was far from the worst episode and there looks to be a LOT to look forward to in the coming weeks and I understand we’re not going to get the best episode in the first week, even if I doubt we’ll see a faster car round the track. It’s great to have the boys back and I can’t wait for next Sunday!

Thanks guys for entertaining me and bringing multiple chuckles to a poorly lass
. The flying Bentley made me drool, simply because my dream is to go a “bit mental” on a rally track. Dream on …..
Whatever the chemistry is between you three, it’s wonderful and mad and I can never get enough, it seems, even for a woman with a moderately moderate savvy about cars- anyway, I shall cease the drivel and sit back and watch the pros and wistfully daydream of one day racing around some demon track and sharing a few beers with you all and talking bollocks and laughing ’til my cheeks hurt.
You had better be doing this for a long time to come…..or else.

Great episode. Couldn’t believe VW group were allowing TG to rally a new Conti. At least without too much reference to their Polo WRC. P45 looked like a robot, with Jeremy’s head in the visor.
SIARPC was one of the best of what was becoming a tired segment, great to see a lap in the snow, turned out to be more like ice racing / rallying than a racing lap!
Though I was hoping Damien would’ve talked about some of the interesting metal he drove in ‘Life’ or his appearance in ‘The Sweeney’ (after the directed car chase)…

A good show all round – fun and even quite clever at times. The flying Bentley was awesome to see and great exposure for the car, and the P45 piece was funny but maybe not worth that much time. Respect to Damian Lewis for getting round the track in those conditions and crossing the line sideways. I would be good if there were occasionally some pieces on real world cars too, like maybe the Dacia Sandero and its new/used rivals?

Great episode, looks like its going to be a great series.
That Pagani was faster than what I was expecting around the track. The P45 video was great, one of the funiest things i’ve watched in ages.
