(UPDATE: if the service is available in your area, you can watch Sunday’s new Top Gear on the BBC iPlayer here)
Well, there you have it: we’re back with a flying Bentley, a hypercar with innocence, the slowest celebrity lap ever (sorry, Damian), some tremendous tractors, and Jeremy’s P45…
Hope you all enjoyed the first show of the new series – there’s plenty more to come (as you can see here). Let us know your thoughts as usual in the handy space below, and we’ll be back next week with the usual out-takes and extras.
(And if you missed it earlier, head this way to see an exclusive video as the presenters discuss the upcoming shows. And their lunch).

Enjoyable show apart from the P45 segment, it just reminded me of the pointless antics of the Indian special, seemed slightly out of kilter with the Topgear ethos. It may of been improved if all 3 of them had produced similar cars in a challenge, as these in my opinion are the better aspects of the show when you have the banter between the guys. But with just Jeremy participating it came across as far too daft and definitely too long. The test of the show was great.
More challenges, races and banter would be appreciated, I hope thats the worst episode of the series out of the way, judging by the trailer shown there’s plenty to look forward to.

I really wish the Pagani had been given more time, it’s the last true hand built product that is one man’s vision. The detailing is exquisite and deserved a more considered approach than Richard Hammond’s usual face pulling. Jay Leno’s film on it is miles better, no clever effects, just a passionate take on a engineering beauty.
The rest of the show was awkward to watch, it was painfully forced and tired. For example, the aggressive rally driver who slowly warms to James whilst being a hooligan in a Bentley was reminiscent of a 3rd rate action buddy movie. As for the P45, a one minute joke stretched out to twenty times past it’s sell-by date. It should have been left on the cutting room floor.
The thing is that I saw an old episode on Dave over the weekend and the difference is really telling. Old episodes had genuine lark about charm, the new episode is like watching an end of the pier show where the participants are silently hoping that someone else pulls the trigger because they haven’t the heart to do it themselves and besides which it still pulls in a few quid.

Had hoped for something on the Seat Leon from the start of the show, clearly just there to fill space in the studio, otherwise was an ok show, though the P45 film went on a bit long, could have made it half as long then included a vid for the Seat.

Agreed! Constructive criticism can be helpful in future programme planning, but for those second rate wannabe critics who can’t help themselves slagging off a fun, irreverent and consistently brilliant show, the message is simple: Don’t bloody watch it!!!!

overnight rating were 5.29 millon, not bad for a
car show that was originally cancelled in 2001.
Clarkson knows that, as the Amercian would say irrevelant
has made the BBC a small fortune.
this espiodes airs, on a week delay to BBC Amercia
and that a good thing.
Most of what, Top Gear does is for publicity
as that equals cash.

I’m so happy the new season started, great to have you guys back.
The Bentley on a rally track segment was mesmerizing. I’m not a big Bentley fan, but it’s amazing that the driver managed what he did with that humongous car. I wonder how much damage you did to that car and how Bentley will be able to sell it now.
Great segment on the Huayra as well. I mean we have seen it countless times in magazine (including yours) for months, but that vid was still very entertaining.
The second half of Clarkson’s vid was the weaker point I thought (first few minutes were enjoyable enough). I don’t know what it referred to, except that it’s probably a business TV show of sorts. I live in Canada, so I really don’t have a clue who these people are or what they do.
Anyway, great to have you guys back.

I really enjoyed this episode, however, I found Clarkson’s bit to be the worst, it was sort of funny but wasn’t interesting and was kinda dumb. Overall the first episode was very good and I’m hoping it gets better from here. The last part of Clarkson’s bit was the worst for me (however I’m from America and assume its something to do with a British show I haven’t seen so I don’t really count that). Looking forward to the next episode.

Top Gear is easily the best thing on TV. Great first show back after a wait that seemed too long. Awesome cars at the start, good interview and the P45 was the funniest segment since the P50 one. Brilliant, thanks guys – keep it up!

Nice work Team, great show. I do hope that the Pagani’s time is’nt as unbeatable as it seems.
Bentley Film/review was top notch.
P45…LOL awesome. Went into work this morning and told my boss i wanted a P45, and he reply ” HUH!??… is everything alright? “. Clearly not a Top Gear fan.

Awesome beginning to a never-ending wait !! However-
1) Sir Hammond was lame ……… and tired and so was the Huayara presentation which was injustice to its innocence ….
2) Captain Slow was awesome in his own originality but part before the rally was much too simple
3) Lady Clarkson was simply astounding …..
And Richard ……. leave …….. the change just isnt working for brand hamster

Great show. That new Pagani looks awesome, poor Damian Lewis did very well in very challenging conditions and Jeremy’s P45 was just plain silly. I live in Guildford and recognised some of the streets he was driving on and I think the petrol station he stopped at is the one near where I live. GREAT SHOW – KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK

Is it just me or is Top Gear getting more and more obviously scripted as time goes on? All their conversations seem so forced. I have a feeling that by then end of 2013 Top Gear will be just a spin off of The Jersey Shore.

To the Colonies fans, the Dragon den is the original
version that Amercia calls the Shark tank.
like Millionaire, price is right, weakest link and so
on Amercia buys a lot of britih shows and make then
Amercian.
The boys were, funny especially James Mr Todd
comment about Richard Hammond coat.
overall enjoyed it, very much indeed.

Er…I think it was ‘Mr Toad’ you meant?! ( Mr Steve 12) Yes it was a good one!
We’ve waited a long time for a new series, I figured Jeremy might be too far over the brow of the hill to function by now?!, but not a bit of it! in fact they were all just as ‘up for a laugh’ as before! Well done lads! Keep up the good work!!
I especially liked the spoof ‘Dragon’s den’ spot. Jeremy managed to both look like a complete idiot himself for our amusement, and send them up pretty nicely at the same time…talk about two birds with one stone!…Brilliant!! yup, He’s still got the magic touch!….loads more of this please!
