For a while, it looked like the appearance of London’s mayor Boris Johnson was going to be the highlight of the show. He was good natured with Jeremy’s probing, enjoyed his time, and gave the track as good as he could in atrocious conditions. But then Jeremy decided to do a roadtest.

It’s still freezing down at the studio, so the production team have cranked up the massive space heaters up between takes just to keep us moving.

The Mole is cold at the studio, but things are underway for Top Gear Rehearsals. Man flu seems to be doing the rounds but it’s not proving to dampen anyone’s spirits. Always a good sign of the show to come!

The Mole was freezing cold down in Surrey yesterday, but still got some behind-the-scenes gossip from the telly filming. The audience were wrapped up warm – even the Stig has some special earmuffs on – and braved the arctic freeze, huddling together in the Top Gear hanger like chilly penguins. Sort of.

I’m sorry it’s my first scribble session for this run, because I do like a blog, but it has literally been horrible getting this series together. After the summer run we all split to do stuff, which meant we didn’t reconvene until September and had just eight weeks to get films done for eight shows.

There were a lot of surprises on today’s show, not least of which was James May doing a power test in a Zonda. It was a beautiful thing – and didn’t the car sound awesome? – with James doing a properly good job of testing it out, in his stripey jumper…
